“The Star Spangled Man with a plan,” Clint talks with his mouthful, pointing at Steve with the corner of a crusts-cut-off sandwich. And he’s eating with determination, one arm curved around the plate protectively like someone’s going to take it from him. He eats like he’s in prison, “so, what are the odds the kid’ll have superpowers? Don’t fancy a hand sticking out my side because the little tykes super strong, you get me?”
Steve feels himself pale at the image, but Bucky hesitantly volunteers that, “it’s unlikely because-”
“Cool beans, you eating that?”
Bucky shakes his head as Clint swaps his plate for the smaller one filled with tiny cakes. He throws one to the dog, who chews on it and then gags half of it back out onto the carpet. Clint doesn’t seem to register this.

It never comes.
Barnes' expression is luke-warm at best; calculating would probably be a better word. The man shrugs. “Sure,” he says and turns away.
When Bucky Barnes comes to the Tower, Clint expects a sniper buddy and bonding time at the range. What he gets is an asshole who seems determined to antagonize Clint while charming the pants off the rest of the team. And that's just the beginning.

Summary
“You with me?” Clint asks, and he’s closer now, steps more confident, but still staying out of reach - Bucky can kill him, easy, with either hand.
Bucky exhales and it’s sharp, harsh, shakes him straight through his ribs and back to his spine where all that cold tension is still coiled up. It’s like a dog shaking off water, all violent movement without regard for the destruction left behind.
But what’s left behind is Bucky, eyes wide and dazed and mouth tight, jaw clenched, breathing quick and ragged.
In which, Bucky loses himself a little bit during a fight and Clint's there to put him back together again afterwards.

Bucky hadn’t expected anything like the farmhouse. He’d expected an out of the way safehouse somewhere, some run-down apartment or overly cheerful suburban nightmare. But Natasha had landed the quinjet in idyllic farmland, big white farmhouse and faded red barn perfectly framed by the wide blue sky. He’d always just thought of Iowa as “one of those states in the middle.” But actually, Iowa was...beautiful. Or this part of it, at least. He stood at the bottom of the ramp, duffle bag slung biting into his shoulder, and he felt something loosen inside him. Not enough, not yet. But it was a start.

In which Bucky's having trouble adjusting to life with the Avengers and Clint offers to take him to his farm for a little time off...and they both find more than they were expecting.
