    Ilya frowns down at his screen. Well that wasn’t it. He huffs quietly in frustration, before backspacing and trying again.

    Wanting to squish and bite my husband

    The search lags, and Ilya taps the tips of his thumbs impatiently against the screen, chewing on his bottom lip. Finally the page refreshes.

    Top result: Why boundaries in relationships are important

    Ilya rolls his eyes, on the verge of giving up.

    “Bullshit,” Hayden responds. “You never have plans.”

    Objectively, this used to be true. Nowadays Shane has many, many plans, between his nightly plans to look at Ilya’s penis through Skype and his various long-term plans laid out helpfully in his notebook, Canva (For Ilya’s sake. He is a visual learner), and more recently, Excel. Shane loves that excel sheet. He’s colour coded it.

     

    In 2017, Shane Hollander spirals and proposes to his boyfriend of 4 days (or 7 years, or 9 years, or not his boyfriend at all, depending on how you look at it), which leads to a lot of plans, weird theories in the Montreal Voyageur locker room, some Twitter drama, and Ilya Rozanov entering his WAG era.

    Family is a sensitive subject- Ilya hardly ever talks about his brother or father, but once in a while he’ll mention his mother in passing. He’ll do it so casually it almost always takes Yuna aback to remember she’s not alive.

    I get my sweet tooth from my mother.

    Oh, I don’t know the name of the song. Just something my mother would hum while baking.

    My mother loved poetry. She could recite her favorite poems by heart.

    My mother would’ve loved your garden, Yuna.

     

    Yuna began to think of Irina while she was working in her garden.

     

    Did you see Ilya today? Him and Shane looked so handsome together.

    Ilya made us laugh so hard today. I bet you were as quick witted as he is.

    Ilya’s having a hard time right now, Irina. I’m doing what I can, we’re doing what we can. I wish I could call you and ask for advice.

    He seems better. Does he talk to you? I hope so.

    Irina, Mother’s Day is coming up. I have an idea.

    Shane was still trying to settle Max, cupping the back of his head, pressing him back against his chest. Body warmth, familiar scent—that was supposed to be enough. That was supposed to be some innate thing, some animalistic pull newborns had toward their parents, hardwired in them from the beginning. Shane had read that. He was pretty sure he had read that.

    It was probably really bad that his baby didn't have it toward him.

    Or,

    Shane is not bonding with his new baby.
