After Uncle Bennie’s death, you’re uprooted from the beaches of Santa Monica and dropped into Hawkins, Indiana, a town still recovering from the events 9 months prior, where your father inherits Bennie’s diner, your mom gets reassigned to Hawkins and your senior year quietly unravels. With California clothes, tanned skin, and a brand-new Mercedes, you stick out in a town that never lets anyone forget they’re different.
You try to make Hawkins work, earning a spot on the Varsity cheer team, waiting tables at the newly renovated diner, and building a fragile sense of normal with new friends and your neighbor Steve Harrington and his girlfriend/new best friend Nancy Wheeler.
But then another family moves to town.
They’re from Santa Monica too.
Their eldest son, a boy you meet one rainy afternoon at the diner, isn’t the same person you face when school starts. And he knows you see it. You slowly find out that in a town built on secrets, that kind of recognition is dangerous, and he has no intention of letting you out of his sight.

Hawkins was fucking weird. Everyone thought so at one point or another. And for Melanie Austin, it was weird in more ways than one. First of all, Hawkins was supposed to exist. It was just a fictional town for a Netflix show. Second, this isn’t even the version of Hawkins that she knows. It’s the freaking Omegaverse version. So when she finds herself in the summer of 1984 as a seventeen year old, she must decide whether or not to stay out of it all.
And she decides to stay out of it. Not her monkeys. Not her circus after all. Or at least it wasn’t until a certain group of monkey’s decide to make it her circus.

You were a pretty normal teenager by all accounts. Only child with appropriately distant parents (it's the 80's), good grades, a few friends (nothing too close unfortunately), a normal babysitting job, and so on.
It wasn't even just the Upside Down, or Eleven, or Will, or really any of the sci-fi Eldritch horrors that were hidden in Hawkins that shook things up for you.
It was them.

After sacrificing his life for Lucas, Steve Harrington wakes up the Halloween before William Byers was taken. Not only does he have all the memories of his past life but so do, Eddie and Billy who both sacrificed their lives as well. Naturally Steve and Eddie (and a reluctant Billy) try to stop the future events from happening.
