Summary
By the time Maverick reached the tarmac, the plane was unloading. He spotted his target stepping off the last of the stairs, sporting his shiny new rank on his shoulders. Maverick jumped out of the cart, strode up to him, and saluted.
“Captain,” Maverick greeted, fighting a grin.
Ice did not fight his smile at all as he turned to face Maverick. He actively laughed even as he returned the salute—likely out of habit, at this point. He must get a good workout in for that right arm now that he served in a command role at his new base.
“Get over here,” Ice said, closing the gap between them and gathering Maverick into a tight hug. “What are you saluting me for?”

After months of testing, Maverick found himself in need of a good pilot to help show off his new jet. He knew just the man to call. He couldn't know that inviting Ice out to run a simulated dogfight against Top Gun students would change the course of their careers and their lives forever.

Ever since their fateful crash in 1996, the Yellowjackets tragedy has captured public fascination like nothing else before or since. As their disappearance and eventual recovery coincided with the growth of the modern internet, an online fandom has always existed, whether in the form of newsgroups, blogs, forums, subreddits, or hashtags. Compiling it all would be impossible, and much of it has been lost to time (particularly since the death of Geocities), but several cataloguing attempts have been made. This is one of them.

“I don’t think they tend to be my biggest fans.” Percy met her eyes for a second and looked away again. “I mean, Dave and Hana, you know.”
Annabeth frowned. “You think they don’t like you?”
“I’m not…” Percy rubbed his forehead. “I’m not smart like you guys. I can’t talk about architecture. I sound like a total dumbass to them. I’m sure they—” he cut himself off, blushing.
“They what?”
He shook his head, and she pressed again. “Hey. Tell me.”
Percy sighed. “They don’t think I’m good enough for you.” He let out an embarrassed laugh. “That’s all. And I’d rather not prove them right.”
