Trying to bribe the Valar into releasing Maedhros from the Void is, according to just about everyone that Fingon has spoken to since his own re-embodiment, ridiculous and impossible and also insane.
For Fingon (who in his first life had partaken in acts such as crossing the Grinding Ice, climbing Thangorodrim to rescue Maedhros, and fighting a dragon), his decision to persuade the Valar to accede to his demands through the giving of a carefully chosen gift seems fairly tame in comparison to some of his other feats.
Audacious, yes. Impossible, no.
