Summary
Max is the youngest driver to ever compete in F1. But also the first ever to be an Omega on the grid (At least, of the open ones. Some could've been taking blockers like him). He had it drilled into him by his father that he was a disgrace for his secondary gender, and he must hide it from everyone to not bring shame to the Verstappen name. He was told many times that all the alphas on the grid would swarm him if he ever came off those blockers. And that was what he believed would happen.
So, why the fuck is he so confused now?

Thorin sighs and his hand finally pulls away from Bilbo’s hair.Bilbo stares at his face and only just manages not to whine at the loss of warmth. (“It was the injury talking. Not me” he tells himself) close. Too close.
Then the words register and the hobbit sputters because how dare Thorin act as if Bilbo was being unreasonable.
“You left me.” The face Thorin makes is almost effective enough to make Bilbo cower.
“You left, Bilbo. In the dead of night. For food.”
“I was hungry.” Bilbo does what he never thought he’d be able to without thinking of his father’s disappointed eyebrow— he grumbles.
“I would’ve come if you had asked.” Thorin answers gruffly. This time he actually sounds offended. Thorin Oakenshield. Offended because Bilbo did not allow him to partake in a side quest for midnight snacks.

Summary
Almost two years after the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin asks Bilbo to return to the mountain with the excuse of needing a "Hobbit-Dwarf Relations Advisor." What that entails, the king has no clue, but he is willing to make up a fake title and job just to get the chance to make amends with the hobbit and, in time, make his deep affections known. Unbeknownst to Thorin, Bilbo is already madly in love with him. Through a series of ridiculous cultural miscommunications, Bilbo finds himself engaged to the King Under the Mountain, while at the same time, Thorin is heartbroken that the hobbit, his heart's desire, has found love in another.
~ A subverted version of the "Bilbo is married/engaged to Thorin in the ways of dwarves and doesn't know it" trope. Inspired by the omitted information from The Hobbit that reads, "curious habit in [hobbit] weddings. They kept it (always officially and very often actually) a dead secret for years who they were going to marry, even when they knew. Then they suddenly went and got married and went off without an address for a week or two (or even longer)." ~
