Summary
Hopper glanced over at Mike, who had gone quiet. He was tense, more tense than he was before. His eyes were still squeezed shut, doors that weren't going to open any time soon.
Hopper wondered whether or not it was easier to be brave in the dark.

“Oh, that’s your excuse? That you didn’t hit anything? Bare. Minimum. Michael,” Ted ground out. “Everyday you show me that your standards for just about everything are in the dirt, and apparently that includes driving!”
Mike swallowed hard enough that Hopper swore he could hear it from the porch. The kid took a step back until he was pressed up against the station wagon, but he kept his chin up.

“I dunno,” Mike mumbles quietly, rubbing one of his eyes like a child kept up past their bedtime. Hopper frowns in almost concern. “I left the party at.. At ten?”
What party? Hopper thought to himself, frowning as a strangely worried feeling took over him. Why is he at a party? DID HE GET DRUGGED AT THE PARTY?
Hopper glanced at the time, frowning after taking a deep breath.

“You’re grounded… for… Til college,” Hopper declared.
“For til college?” Will screeched. “We haven’t even started senior year yet.”
Hopper nodded. “For til college. No leaving the house after school. No having Mike over. No phone privileges.”
“Because, I’m dating Mike?” Will asked.
Hopper nodded.

Summary
“Don’t go,” she pleaded, her voice scarcely more than a whisper. “Please, Mike. Don’t go.”
Mike shifted nervously in his seat. This bike was fucking uncomfortable.
He hesitated a moment, not sure he could trust his voice. But he managed to croak out those three words anyway.
“I can’t stay.”
He looked back to his mom and Holly, still standing in the doorway, unmoving.
And with that, he kicked his foot onto the pedal and cycled away.
Or, the one where Mike finds a home in his best friend's house.
