Summary
That night, Max looks at him once, but Charles bats him away. He’s thankful when Max quietly nods and doesn’t prod him for something more. He’s not so thankful when Max stands and turns away. Lando rolls his eyes, but his cheeks flush crimson as he allows himself to be pulled away by Max, his discomfort fake even to Charles, who observes the scene with a growing sense of unease. He glances at Carlos, watching the way his jaw tenses under his gritted teeth, concerned eyes looking at him.
Charles knows this is not the beginning.

Summary
"Goddamn, Sid,” his dad says softly from behind him. “When Mario said they'd definitely find someone to keep up with you, I didn't think they'd literally make someone to keep up with you.”
Sid's throat clicks as he tries to answer. “The program never works,” he says. “I'll just be waiting a year longer.”
Where the Penguins can't find a player to match Sid, so they opt to grow one from scratch instead.

Summary
Molloy chuckles. “Alright, you got my number. But I do have one question.”
Ah, Louis should have known better. Too late to slip out now, all he can do is start his walk towards the exit as Molloy starts to follow. "What’s that?”
“I mean, the media’s all over this angle about how your husband and Lioncourt were like debate rivals or whatever at Georgetown Prep. Very cute, very fated to be enemies and all that.” He punctuates this point with what Louis thinks are supposed to be jazz hands. And then, he goes in for the kill. “But no one seems to have picked up on how you and Lioncourt were at Tulane at the same time. You guys know each other?”
Or: Polls suggest Armand, Governor of California, is a narrow favorite to become the 46th President of the United States. His husband, Louis de Pointe du Lac, is just trying to make it through the campaign season in one piece. This would be an easier task if his husband’s opponent was someone other than Louis’s ex.

Summary
Louis struggles to stay afloat with a grueling bartender gig at a local strip club. While he briefly considered sex work in the past to keep the money flowing, he's always held back out of pride and self-preservation. Things change when Lestat makes him a tempting offer, and Louis sacrifices himself to provide for his family when they’re in need.
---
Louis rolls his eyes. He tries to seem unaffected, but he knows his breathing is still harsh. “Don’t bother me again. I’ll have you thrown out.”
Lestat leans into his space, casual in his intrusion. “Will you?”
Louis can’t actually throw out Lestat, not for anything he’s done so far. If Tom knew he was threatening to boot a rich customer over this, he’d shout himself hoarse. But Lestat doesn’t know that. Probably.
“Yes. I can and I will.”
Lestat’s hand wraps around Louis’ left wrist, and his grip is firm, proprietary. Louis tries to pull away, but he can’t budge Lestat’s hand. He feels panic start to creep in, insidious.
“Ah, ah, ah, it’s alright, chéri, I won’t hurt you.”

Summary
Shane heads straight to his stall, starts tugging his jersey over his head, and without any preamble, turns to Ostrovsky and says, “Rook, what was the one thing I told you not to do tonight?”
Guiltily, Ostrovsky lisps, “Get into shit with Rozanov and Marleau.”
Shane sighs, all put-upon weariness. “And what was the literal first thing you did?”
Or: Five fights Shane Hollander (tries to) stop on the ice, and the one that he starts.
