Surrounding the crossing is a kaleidoscopic array of signs, ads and billboards. Luxury goods, electronics, perfume, food, clothes. And—celebrities, beautiful and bright-faced, holding makeup palettes or bottles of liquor or mysteriously and opaquely frosted jars.
On one of the billboards is a man named Boo Seungkwan.
His billboard is huge, scaling the side of a multistory commercial complex. In it, he holds a container of skin cream. Once in a while, he’ll raise it to his face before lowering it, his expression fresh and radiant. Hansol has been commuting past this billboard every day for the last two months and every day he tries not to look too much at it.

Seo-yun scrutinized Jen carefully throughout the dinner. Physically, she was all right. Aiko had good taste. Mentally, she was a little bit impulsive it seemed, judging by some of her memories, but overall her hunting tactics were the kind that would work until she ran into a bigger predator. Emotionally, she was a jackpot. There was the lust and hunger and aggression of every one of their kind, the rotting emptiness, but beside it there was something else, something that reminded Seo-yun of Aiko. There was sadness and loneliness, and a small, curled up desire to be normal and to be loved.
Seo-yun smiled as she watched Jen pick over her food. She could work with that. Desires like those, pure and sweet, only became sweeter when they went bad.
