It had started fairly innocuously. A visit back to Los Angeles for a legal conference. An email, to an old address she barely checked anymore, from a girl she remembered a little too well. A subpar oat milk cappuccino in an over-air-conditioned cafe, and Maya Fey across the table from her, going on about something that foolish man had said while she devoured a cupcake with enthusiasm bordering on obscene.
Franziska can't remember what she had been saying. She can remember how Maya had had a small bit of vanilla frosting on her lip. She can remember reaching across the table to smudge it away with her thumb.
What, exactly, had made her take such a step - Franziska does not know. It doesn't really matter. The frosting had been a promise.
And Franziska von Karma does not make empty promises.

The thing is, Miles had been incredibly patient tonight. He had taken every curveball that some sick deity threw at him during the night with almost perfect grace. Finding out Phoenix has had sex with Will Powers, while shocking, is understandable. Who hasn’t thought of it, really? The DeLites? Well, while he’s only attracted to men, he could definitely see the appeal in Desirée. Knowing that Phoenix is bisexual, it doesn’t surprise him in the slightest that he’d be interested in that couple. Lang? Truth be told, that had been more than surprising—having shaken him to his core—but it was understandable, as he’s also had similar interactions with Agent Lang.
The point is, in the end, he still came out triumphant. His precious mind had still been intact—even after everything tried to break it. But this.
This.
Is far more than his poor mind can handle.
