    “You see him?” The third-year management course kids are talking loudly in the hallway. “Apparently he scored the highest on the written portion of the entrance exam of all this year’s applicants.”

    “I heard he’s got the highest score on the test since Principal Nezu took over.”

    “Shit really? No wonder Eraserhead recommended him.”

    Hitoshi might not know Midoriya except second-hand through rumors, but he hates him all the same.

    Summary

    The second lieutenant of the Shie Hassaikai yakuza group is known to others only as 'the Caretaker.' A rather enigmatic and highly intelligent member of the family, not much is known about him outside of a select circle of trusted friends and, of course, the Shie Hassaikai itself. But to those who know him, the Caretaker is simply this: a young man who cares for his family more than anything else.

    Because the Caretaker is one Midoriya Izuku, and he did not start out that way... at first, he was just a babysitter.

    A series revolving around an AU I started in my fic, 'more than you hoped to be.' Originally only intended to be one fic, but it somehow sprung up into two! I might also include some other supplementary bits in this series as well, like scrapped scenes or character profiles for some of the characters in the fics, if people are interested in that sort of thing.

    In another world, Chisaki Kai is a ruthless, cruel man who stops at nothing to rid the world of quirks. In this one, however, he draws lines: one being Eri. He cares for her, treats her like his own daughter. And for his precious daughter, he needs somebody to help care for her, somebody who isn’t one of the Eight Bullets or a member of the Yakuza.

    Enter one Midoriya Izuku: quirkless, protective, and the perfect candidate to be her babysitter. Now if only Chisaki could just stop worrying about the boy, too, that would be great. (No, Chronostasis, he does not have ‘paternal instincts,’ thank you very much!)

    Or: Midoriya Izuku (accidentally) turns the Yakuza into the good morally grey guys.

    Midoriya Izuku used to laugh when asked that thought-provoking icebreaker question in middle school: Would you rather be stranded on an island alone or with your worst enemy? Kacchan would demolish a deserted island, make it his bitch; it would be a paradise by the end of the week, Izuku knew. Of course, he’d want Kacchan there, even if it meant Kacchan taking out his misplaced anger at being stranded in the first place out on him. He’d reap the benefits in the end, he knew. And with no one around to be an audience, to interfere, their friendship might even rekindle.

    Oh, if only Kacchan was really his “worst enemy.” That was silly middle school thinking, Izuku now knew, as a third year student at UA.

    What’s worse than being abducted by aliens? For Izuku, it was being abducted by aliens with his long time nemesis, Shigaraki Tomura. When Izuku is lucky contestant number one to be chosen to be experimented on, he makes it his mission to make sure that Shigaraki does not meet the same fate. It’s not super surprising when Shigaraki isn’t grateful, but hey, it’s a plan, and Izuku’s sticking to it, determined to be heroic whether Shigaraki wants him to or not, whether Shigaraki trusts him to be or not.
