Summary
Escape or death.
The first explosion rocks the complex scant minutes after he leaves the room, Xue Yang's boredom finally winning out over Jin Guangyao's insistence at their attendance. Wei Wuxian has only the breath of a moment to wish fleetingly that he had set the timer a bit longer. The first charge is set as far from the conference and attendees as possible, to be the most confusing. A second goes off in the opposite direction, then a third, further south.
Everything erupts into movement, the guards scrambling at the explosions, the guests starting to emerge from the hall in a clump of confused, controlled panic as the charges continue to detonate. It’s now or never.
Escape or death.
He flees.
Taken at the end of the Sunshot War and forced into servitude to the Jin, Wei Wuxian makes a desperate escape attempt during a Federation conference. Though the universe (and his family) think he's dead - that he has been dead for 13 years - he has no choice but to try to escape. To find his freedom, to stop the Jin, and maybe to prevent another war.

Summary
At sixteen Wei Wuxian is—through some strange twist of fate, or a nick in the layer between parallel universes, who knows—out of the blue confronted with that one incense burner dream one night.
While his curious mind is left unable to stop poking at this new perspective on Lan Wangji, circumstances in the Cloud Recesses begin to change and Wei Wuxian is suddenly presented with life-altering opportunities.
Maybe Gusu isn’t so bad after all?
(Or alternatively: The fic where I get to give Wei Wuxian the academic scholarship he deserves while simultaneously getting him hitched early on.)
