Summary
Jeremy convinces Kevin (and several other Foxes) to come to Pride in LA. Kevin is too Kevin to admit what that means.
Kevin glanced back at Andrew and Neil one last time.
Andrew pulled his sunglasses down out of his hair where they'd been shoved and waved a hand at Kevin. To someone else, it might have seemed dismissive. But Kevin knew Andrew better than that. He knew what his dismissive wave looked like. This one was more like saying go ahead. He read the implication that Andrew (and Neil) wouldn't be far out of reach, even if they were out of sight.
Even so, he could feel panic start to grow roots in his chest. Jeremy's hand slid down his arm, winding their fingers together and squeezing. Kevin, startled, fell back into himself at that and looked down at Jeremy.
"It's okay," Jeremy said. "Jean and I got you."

Summary
When Jean Knox dies unexpectedly after retiring from pro exy, he leaves two vows for the men he loved most: for Kevin Day, to care for Jeremy and their infant son by being the man Jeremy needs—regardless of Kevin's fear of inadequacy; and for Jeremy, to raise Jackie well, to care for Kevin in return, to live fully, and—eventually—to find love again.
Now a widowed father, Jeremy holds his child close and his grief closer—still loving fiercely, even as the loss threatens to break him—with the only person left who knows the shape of what he's lost beside him. Kevin, long defined by ruthless discipline and the armor of control, finds himself unraveled by loss but grounded by the defiant hope Jackie brings—and the quiet strength Jeremy never lost.
Bound by promises and the love Jean left behind, both men try to survive the first year without him. But grief opens old wounds and reveals new truths by forcing buried confrontations and teaching unexpected tenderness. As Kevin and Jeremy grow to care for each other in ways neither expected, they learn this too: healing is not forgetting—and second chances are not betrayals.
Some love stories begin after an ending. This Second Life is theirs.

Summary
Nina is halfway through the locker room when she realizes she is not alone.
It’s Mary who first sees the bright yellow of the racquet being swinged by a third party, but Nina is going too fast to stop having reached the lounge, and Mary’s warning to avoid it becomes obsolete. It happens like this: wood hits her stomach, hard enough to crush her lungs against her spine. And like this: Nina doesn’t remember falling, but suddenly she’s on her hands and knees. And like this: Mary immediately kneels next to her, tries to grab Nina by the shoulders only to have her hands pass through Nina without touching her. And like this: Nina can’t breathe. Feels as if she were to cough up a lung. She gasps. Black spots fill her vision. And like this: Wymack sounds thousands of miles away when he booms angrily, “For my grandmother’s beard, Minyard. You are the reason we can’t have nice things.”
Mary dies. Her daughter refuses to let go of her. Mary comes back.

Summary
Kevin Day was twenty the last time Andrew had seen him; stiff-backed, hair cropped, hand bound in a canvas brace. The winter banquet had been hosted at Breckenridge that year, the Evermore Ravens on the other side of the room from the Foxes.
Kevin Day had been standing with the other coaches, though, not the players. And Kilduáin is a very long way from Breckenridge.
