Summary
Every child of Sumeru, from Gandharva Ville to Port Ormos, knows that the Dragon nests in the high branches of the Great Tree. The children chant among their skipping games of Rukkadevata, who tamed the great beast before it brought its grief and calamity to wither all the great jungle, of Little Lord Kusanali, daughter of the great goddess, to whom the beast only listens. Their parents gossip about the vast trove of knowledge, hidden in the boughs of the tree, far beyond the reach of any mortal scholar, where only the bravest and wisest may tread and come out alive.
Some old stories tell of scholars sent up in sacrifice to appease the Dragon’s anger, for when he is moved to fury, only the Dendro Archon can calm him, and when he is moved to sorrow, all the rivers flood and the jungle dies for his loneliness.

Summary
The box seats of the theater are obscured from the ground below by all but the most watchful eyes, a fact Kaveh has never been more grateful for than he is right now. If they had been at the level ground of Zubyar Theater, there'd have been no hiding where Al-Haithams' hands have wandered. Then again, Kaveh supposes Al-Haitham wouldn't have gotten quite so bold, if they were in the Grand Bazaar. Not out of any sort of shame, but out of respect for Nilou, who the enigmatic Scribe holds in high regard and respect.

Summary
The music from the grand ballroom can still be heard even out at the garden fountains, despite having gone far enough away that the roar of the grand fete's noise has faded to nothing but a distant mumble. Here, the murmur of the fountain replaces the idle chatter of all of Sumeru's elite, and the humming voices of the Aranara that were scattered curiously through Nahida's gardens followed the melody of the orchestra inside.
The Archduke had been told explicitly to not leave the Palace grounds, and then more explicitly to remain within view of the ballroom, and he had obeyed these orders to the letter of them—no one could have reasonably expected any truer obedience from Al-Haitham of all people.
