The first letter is soft and humiliating at the same time. The second letter is a ketchup-stained napkin. When the third one comes, written on coffee-scented paper, Goro already knows the reason. The stranger writes to him, more often than he should: he talks about crimes, cats, and questions that can’t be answered—and it’s haunting, really, how similar he is to the brilliant boy Akechi Goro never stopped loving.
