Summary
“Do you, like, need… anything?” He’d stumbled over the end of his sentence as his brain tried to supply the word help in its place.
He could feel his face going red. Sydney had to have been aware of the slip-up.
Either way, he’d spent the rest of the time Sydney was in the shower scrubbing down the floors until they were spotless, even by Lucille’s standards. It was much easier than thinking about Sydney’s hair, or the little relaxed sigh he would make under the stream of warm water, or the fact that the thoughts made Jedididah’s stomach churn with guilt, even if they posed as innocent. That might’ve been worse than just straight-up thinking of him naked. At least then he could play it off as the devil talking. Instead, his heart squeezed in his chest, a bubbling, bursting tenderness that he thought might actually suffocate him if he couldn’t get it out.

“Did- did your Aunt Casey never tell you? Or-“ His dad hums. Something clicks. “I just assumed you knew…”
“She's trans?” Grant whispers.
Grant’s not sure why it feels like a secret, because his dad just nods. His eyes get ever-so-slightly wider like he’s seeing something over Grant’s shoulder, but he shakes it off after a second.
“Yeah, she ah, she told us when she was about your age." Grant doesn’t know why that feels so important.

He tries to meet them in a half-hearted glare, but he thinks he probably just ends up looking tired. God, is he tired.
“I don’t need a break,” Grant mumbles, his words slurring together as he struggles to form them.
The look he gets in response is decidedly unconvinced.
OR:Grant overworks himself during finals week, and Sparrow forces him to take a break.

'Henry Oak is the Unsung Hero.'
The voice had made a home of him years ago. It crept along, following in the shadows, occasionally building to a roar too loud to drown out. Like now.
This will be the last time, he’s decided – if he can commit to it.

Summary
“Oh.” Taylor scrunches his nose. His dad isn’t supposed to be here. “I thought you were getting me next week. I'm sick”
Nick holds his hand in front of him in surrender, but Taylor just narrows his eyes. Well, he narrows them for about a second, but the way the lights streak in his vision make his head hurt near-instantly.
“Right. Your mom said I could come over this weekend. I can leave, though.” His face scrunches up before he continues, “Or- actually, no I can’t. I already told her I would watch you today. But I can leave tomorrow, if you want.”
(OR: Taylor gets sick, and Nick offers to take care of him. Based on a Tumblr post by @/Y2ksnowglobe)

Summary
He feels it the second he regains consciousness, the ever-present drone of anxiety building into a roar. There is an empty space in the bed and a child waiting for him at the foot of it, teary-eyed and trembling.
Maybe he’s assuming the worst.
It feels like a fair assumption, given the way his life has gone so far.

How does she ever explain that? That the reason she finds herself here, standing on socked feet in the hallway, is because she isn’t in control?
Her body isn’t her own, and so she can’t reply. Instead it pads in on careful feet to Olivia and Yunan’s shared castle bedroom sometime past two in the morning as though they have nothing better to do than to take care of it.

“Are you okay, Marcy? Please tell me.”
They know he knows the answer, even if the words didn’t make them choke out a stifled sob. They press a kiss to his cheek - his scar - and repeat their sentiment, determined to ingrain it into his head.
“You mean so much to me, Sash. I love you so much.”
OR: Marcy has trouble sleeping due to anxiety. They wake up Sasha and try to avoid the guilt-ridden conversations they've had one-too-many times.

Summary
Anne has researched this topic many times before - her journals from highschool could easily attest to that. In all honesty, the big night of a wedding, placed carefully over a beautiful spring evening, lights scattered perfectly around the wedding venue, tables decorated with bluebells, orchids, and calla lilies were all carefully rehearsed within her dreams, paired with two people she knew would always be a part of her life.
OR:Helping your two best friends prepare for their wedding is a lot easier when you don't have a crush on said best friends.

Anne's not sure how she got here, or why, or what she must've done to deserve it; all she knows is that really, she shouldn't be.
Marcy's lips against hers, soft whispers of love in her ear as arms cradle her like the most precious thing in any world. And she might almost be able to believe it, if they were anywhere other than Sasha and Marcy's honeymoon cabin.

Summary
“Morning, Annie.”
Butterflies creep up her throat and her heart leaps in her chest, even though they do this every morning. If nothing else, this is easy. This makes her feel like maybe it’s okay to just be a kid again, even if it means sitting restlessly through boring lectures. Even if it means she spends more of the class period calculating the distance between their hands and how to close it than she does paying attention to the questions on the board, even if it means he stutters through a question about today’s date when she thinks he should just ask her on one instead.

She’s no longer just Anne Boonchuy, sitting around and spending her hours counting the scars on her limbs like display cases for an exhibit. Those days are replaced now, as they become Anne, Sasha, and Marcy, skipping down sidewalks and doodling their friendship in chalk while they freeze their brains with Icees from the shop in the park. And if it only comes with the price of catching Marcy when she falls, or Sasha when she has a sharp tongue, Anne will gladly pay it time and time again.
OR: A soulmate AU of sorts, in which the girls get each other's scars.

Summary
There is, however, one slight window of relief - or, what they’re sure is meant to be one.
Sasha and Anne visit at around 5, give or take a few minutes, every day.
First, it was tear-stained apologies, touches as fragile as glass, heavy breaths that never quite formed into words. They still remember their promises, and they’d be the world’s worst liar to say the girls - more so than the machines attached to them - don’t feel like the very thing keeping their heart beating, most days.
Or; Sasha visits Marcy in their hospital room, and they both kinda suck at talking things out. Especially without Anne there as a buffer.

Summary
Anne, Marcy, and Sasha haven't seen each other in five years. Since winning a war and losing themselves.
So when Anne decides to stay in Wartwood for a few months before leaving for college and ends up running into her two oldest friends? It's a surprise, to say the least.
Maybe it shouldn't be, though. Fate seems to have a thing for them, always bringing them together and apart.
