Summary
The only difference between a ghost and a memory is that a memory decays. A ghost, by nature of its unnature, is immune to rot and instead exists in stasis. Such an idea could only exist in fiction. Fiction kinder than any Dazai could imagine himself living.
Or, a study in haunting, and the long shadow of loss turned biting.
Or, the ADA has a mission to deal with a series of deaths related to hauntings, if such a thing even exists, and Chuuya has his own aims. “Will, are you okay? What’s wr- Will, what- What are you doing!” Mike tries to cling onto his arm to keep him where they are, but Will shakes him off and walks out of their hiding spot, still clutching to his rifle, and towards the slowly closing gate. Fuck. Mike sprints off after him without a second thought, ignoring Dustin’s panicked screams. There are other people joining Dustin’s yelling now but Mike blocks them out, singularly focused on Will who is still advancing on the gate. And then he’s passed it and it’s shrinking, shrinking, shrinking-
Mike leaps through just as it’s closing and throws himself at Will. He turns. The gate is gone.
