Summary
Dennis has been hopelessly ogling the married attendings for the past ten months; Hell, since he saw them running the ED on the day of Pittfest. So when Dr. Abbot and Dr. Robby ask Dennis to cover a few shifts for them, he holds no hesitation to comply. Exhausted and run down after taking on the additional shifts, Dennis doesn't put up the effort he knows he should in assuring Jack that he doesn't need to thank him. After an unfortunate incident involving a locker, Jack insists on having Dennis over for dinner with him and Michael as a thank you. At Jack's insistence Dennis obliges. Little does he know, steps taken, cannot be undone. What begins as a simple dinner of gratitude pulls Dennis out of the hospital's fluorescent safety and into a house built on ancient loyalties and iron-clad secrets. As the shadows of the city's mob tensions lengthen over their table, Dennis realizes that some invitations are vows, and some orbits are impossible to escape. In a world of blood and iron, he must decide if he is willing to follow them into the dark, where the only thing more dangerous than the life they lead is the love they offer.

Before he could ask what he was talking about, one of Jack’s strong hands grabbed his face, thick fingers forcing his jaw to open. The other hand was on his chest, keeping him locked in place.
Robby pressed the knife into his forearm, red blood welling up at the wound immediately.
No, no. He did not want blood. The blood would make him what he didn’t want to be. It would confirm what he was trying to deny. It would confirm the sin that had taken root inside of him.
Dennis felt fangs sliding out of his gums, heavy and sharp. He started salivating, wanting to taste the blood, needing to taste it.

Summary
Dr. Michael Robinavitch moves his new MS4 around the ER by whatever handle is closest — shoulder, elbow, the back of the neck. It's habit. It means nothing.
Dennis Whitaker is four hundred years old. He's studying to be a doctor this century for the same reason he does every century, human suffering still interests him. He did not expect to find himself standing very still in a hospital corridor, thinking about the warmth of an attending's hand.
Jack Abbot is Robby's husband, his mirror, and the only person alive who understands exactly how Robby is disappearing — and that gentleness isn't going to stop it. When he finds Dennis living in the abandoned eighth floor, he doesn't call security.

Summary
When Dennis agreed to cover shifts for Dr. Mohan on the night shift, he didn't think he would ever end up here. Kidnapped from the ambulance bay, his head pounding, and having to save the life of a man with limited medical supplies. That was supposed to be it. Somehow, he finds himself snatched up off a sidewalk, in the stables, in front of his home. There were no sacred spaces when you proved your worth.
In the middle of it all, Dennis is confused by the way Dr. Robby and Dr. Abbot are circling him. The way they'd reach out and brush their fingers against his skin. The way they made sure he ate, got rest, and stayed safe. It made him ache with something he hadn't felt in a long time.
