Jan used the blood as a punishment. It would always come back up, laced with water or rabies, and it was a terrible reminder of their monstrosity. Days began to blur, between the starvation and the exercise and the fucked up sleep schedule, and the only thing keeping him grounded was the nightly fang pulling. The pain was a stark reminder of his vampirism, that he had to work harder to become human, because Nandor the Relentless just wanted to be normal again.

Summary
“A commendable effort, Doctor Lecter,” Will grits into Hannibal’s ear. “I’m almost impressed.” He climbs on top of Hannibal, pinning him in place. Hannibal keeps his expression carefully neutral.
“One could hardly call this a fair fight,” Hannibal says. “We’re on your terrain here, in case you’ve forgotten.”
“Are you saying that the Chesapeake Ripper is foiled by a simple expanse of woods?” Will tuts. “What would the masses say if they knew? Freddie Lounds would have a field day.”
Will chases Hannibal through the woods and catches him. Things quickly escalate from there.

Summary
This is the Sequel/Prequel to We Were Never Theirs. This tells the beginning story of how Hannibal and Will met.
Hannibal is the prodigal student of John Hopkins. While at a medical conference in New Orleans, he decides to hunt and pushes his car until it cannot go any farther. That is when he mets Will. They go through multiple trials before a secret of theirs is revealed and Will is pushed to Quanitco. Will learns how to wield his empathy as a weapon and keep suspicions away from him and Hannibal.

When he meets the clever game warden Will Graham, he feels the fates pull at the thread of his life. Maybe this trip is worthy of his time after all.
