There was no shiver of uncertainty; Shin made no attempt to crane his head for a chance at vision. “Do you want me to, like, pretend I don’t know what you’re doing?” he asked, and it was probably only half a joke. After all, Shin could read Natsuki’s every intention. It took nothing more than a little bit of focus to see the world through his eyes.
Natsuki had seen that in action before himself: It was, very likely, exactly where this whole fascination came from.

There’s something different about this time. Their private moments together are typically rushed, in a company car or a one-stall bathroom, always fuzzy and impersonal enough that when Shishiba thinks back later, he can blame it on alcohol or adrenaline. But tonight Shishiba is sober, and he knows the two of them have this hotel room all to themselves, on the JAA’s dollar.

Natsuki half remembers Lu mentioning this once to him offhandedly, that Shin is a handful when he’s drunk. Shin had jumped in about how rich it was for her to say something like that, and they’d devolved into their regular arguments. Natsuki had mostly forgotten about it.
As he tries to drag a drunken Shin down the street, though, it’s easy for him to work out what she was talking about.
