“Do you like it here?” Steve asked.

He saw the way Bucky furrowed his brow, face caught in a grimace that didn’t really seem to know what emotion it wanted to convey. “I wouldn’t say that.”

Steve couldn’t hold back a smile, “Me neither.”

In which Steve takes the Winter Soldier on a museum date and things escalate from there.

    Summary

    They have an arrangement.

Eight months of Thursdays. Eight months of Bruce cataloguing everything he tells himself he's not cataloguing — the sounds Clark makes, the impossible heat of him, the way his sleeping body turns toward Bruce's corner of the room. Eight months of very carefully not calling it what it is.

Then Clark shows up on a Sunday and asks Bruce what he knows.

Turns out Bruce knows exactly what this is. He's known since Kazakhstan, since a restaurant at 3 AM, since Clark said I'd like to come back from this to a bowl of pelmeni and Bruce filed it under highest priority classification and declined to retrieve it.

    He's retrieving it now.

(Or: Bruce Wayne's comprehensive manual on how to be in love with Clark Kent while pretending very hard that you're not, until you can't pretend anymore, at which point you should probably just say it out loud. Featuring: a case, a conspiracy, water rights journalism, one teenager's homemade piezometers, and Bruce Wayne learning that sometimes staying is scarier than any exit he's ever built.)

"You like the cave," Bruce says.

    "Yes."

    "It's a cave."

"It's your cave," Clark says. "Which makes it better than other caves."

I really love this particular exchange it's so cute.

Anyway im regards to literally everything else, I ALSO love it, I feel like Bruce's voice is a challenge to capture since he's so avoidant but also painfully aware of...everything? but the clinical way he speaks here is so fitting to the way he processes things, his difficulty with staying clinical when it comes to what he loves (and won't admit he loves (the fiest appearance of the word "love" really just hits)) is so clear from the get-go too the poor guy is so obsessed but so in denial for so long. The way Bruce focuses on patterns is really apparent with the prose and its so beautiful to see the way Bruce begins to notice shifts and can name things that were always there after time. I love how Clark fits into Bruce's tone too, and the way Bruce is so focused on his warmth, literal and otherwise.

The case, the Garcias, also take a spotlight which i wasnt initially expecting but loved. Martha and Alfred mentions, as always, gave me feels I just love parental figures of heroes so much even if the dynamics weren't explored too much you could feel how they shape the heroes and their actions.

    Summary

There was something else, too. The softest hush-hush rustle of fabric. The barest creak of muscle. And then, an exhale. A heartbeat that seemed, for a moment, to reverberate through the city itself, that broke her unbearable waiting, that filled her chest and brought her to waking…

Clark opened his eyes, staring up into the darkness.

There was nothing there. But a moment ago, there had been. And, whatever it was, it had been watching him.

"You're real," he whispered to the night.

A series of strange murders. A vengeful protector, cloaked in shadow. A city that breathes and lives and watches. Clark Kent can sense Gotham's hostility from the moment he crosses its border — but its currents pull him closer to its mysteries, and the deeper his investigations go, the more he begins to belong...
