There was a time, way back when, that Patrick really believed that Pete was the key to all his dreams and he believed, however unwillingly, that Pete saw him as the key to his. Those times are long in the past.
Now, Pete isn’t the boy who wants to conquer the world with Patrick’s voice—he’s the man he meets once a year, give or take, when he comes home for Christmas, and fucks, hot and desperate and hungry. Nothing deep, nothing meaningful, but nonetheless inevitable.

“You should have considered the risks of accepting my invitation. So, checkmate, dance with me.” And then Pete pulls him to his feet before Patrick can say another word.

Pete hates and loves February. He loves the stillness of a city buried in snow, revels at the slight burn in his eyes as its stark white glares and blinds him when the sun comes up. He hates the memories it holds, hates the silence for the way it makes it thoughts so loud, the images in his mind so clear.
He’s written about February more than once, but never dared to name it, scared it would make the memory solidify into something too heavy to carry, or something sharp enough to shred him to ribbons.
He remembers February, remembers Chicago swallowed up by the snow, the cold seeping through the walls against the valiant efforts of the sub-par heating.

Stolas has been drifting in and out of consciousness in his tight restraints for hours by the time Blitz, Millie, Moxxie and Loona break down the door to his holding cell. It’s a big, empty room, all metal and a single cupboard. Stolas is tied to a chair, has been for days, no food, no water in his reach. To get it, he would depend on Stella’s mercy and she has shown him none.
It takes him a moment to force his eyes open, and attempt to feel his own limbs when they all pour into the room. He can’t, the ropes around his body have cut off all sensation in them. He can faintly remember them hurting when he was first put in them, but all the pain has long been replaced by unbearable numbness.

With Blitzo, it’s not love. So, there’s no pain. Stolas doesn’t let there be pain, at least not emotionally, the physical pain is something he quite enjoys. When Blitzo leaves after their monthly night together, he doesn’t allow himself to feel pain, only anticipation of the next time. He likes that there’s always a next time, even though that’s because of his active incentive more than anything else. But that’s alright, he doesn’t want Blitzo to come see him without an incentive. He deserves favors in turn for what he’s giving Stolas. -
