Summary
Alright, so maybe they’re not perfect yet. Maybe they’re still far from reaching the pinnacle of mental health, but Mizuki’s more than certain that they’re at the very least much less of a mess than they were in high school. They’re slowly figuring out the bits and pieces, slotting chunks together and seeing what sticks, like a thousand piece puzzle they’re just about getting the hang of. And that’s okay, because Ena’s got their back.
(In which Mizuki accompanies An to a jewellery store and is forced to confront the state of their relationship with their longtime best friend-turned-housemate, and where it all stands between their personal growth.)

It's been six months since the majority of Nightcord graduated high school. It's been four months since they disbanded the group. And it's been three months since anyone last talked to Ena. Once considered the glue holding Nightcord together, she's dropped off the face of the Earth since attending University. Her friends and family are worried, but none more so than Mizuki, who longs for the days the two of them were almost inseparable. When Ena contacts Mizuki out of the blue and invites them to visit her during winter break, Mizuki readily accepts with the one-track goal of bringing her home. However, as the two spend a week together for the first time in months, Mizuki is forced to grapple with their rose-tinted past, their prospective future, and what really caused the glue of N25 to vanish.

This is ridiculous, Ena feels like she’s in middle school again. The persistent insecurities and comparisons that plagued her identity for most of her life, following her like a shadow as she enrolled in college, is rushing back into her lungs at full force.
Her head is spinning and she tries to pinpoint when exactly these thoughts began to subside. The answer leaves a bitter taste in her mouth.
