Summary
Good morning, Wakatoshi-kun! Isn’t it such a beautiful autumn day today?
They chatted every day before class; Tendou vivid and excitable, Ushijima muted, but still enjoying himself. Except today, when Tendou had sprinted into class just moments before the lecture began, his cheeks flushed with exertion. He flashed Ushijima a bright smile as he slid into his seat, opened his mouth to say something, and was promptly cut off by the start of the lecture.
Not to be deterred, Tendou had written a note instead.
Ushijima feels silly. It takes him a while to decide on a response that doesn’t make him feel even sillier.
Yes, it is a nice day.
Or: 5 times Ushijima couldn’t make sense of the notes Tendou wrote to him in class + 1 time when it finally clicked.

Summary
Ushijima brings it up to his mother exactly once, the strange boy who appears in his room at night.
She tells him that it sounds like he has an imaginary friend, and that at nine years old isn’t he a little bit old for this kind of thing?
He doesn’t bring it up again, though later that night he tells Tendou and Tendou’s eyes go bright, his smile sharp and pointed like a shark.
“Do you think I’m imaginary, Wakatoshi-kun?”

It just so happens that Satori’s preferred flavor is a handsome stranger who could only be an enemy spy.
Or: Tendou should really double-check the date before betraying his intelligence agency.

“Anyway, you should invite me over. Unless you were planning on keeping our summer fling a summer fling, which would be stupid because we’re, like, the perfect couple. A super buff, butch, volleyball player and a cheerleader? Hottest couple in the school.” Wakatoshi narrowed her eyes, trying to figure out which layer of irony Satori was on.
“Is that what’s important?”
“No, I’m joking, honey. I want to keep seeing you because I really like you.” She leaned over and pressed their foreheads together. Her big, rusty eyes met Wakatoshi’s, who quickly looked away, the eye contact making her uncomfortable. “No one else has the patience to listen to me talk all the time or your autistic charm.” Wakatoshi chuckled.

Precision and routine hold two lives in orbit: one behind the pass of a Michelin-starred kitchen, the other on the hardwood of Olympic volleyball. In a city thick with heat, pressure, and possibility, Tendou and Ushijima navigate long shifts, early matches, and the quiet negotiations of building a future—measured not in grand declarations, but in small decisions, shared meals, and the space to ask: what comes next, if it’s you?
(Or, five days in Paris, in July.)

Summary
The train pulled into Warszawa Gdańska just after five p.m., and the platform hissed like it was exhaling. Tendou stepped off with one hand gripping the sticky handle of his roller suitcase, the other tugging his scarf higher against the wind. The sky above the station was already turning the color of old zinc, bruised and pale, and the snow on the platform was melting in streaks—dirty at the edges, but soft, like the city hadn’t decided yet if it was really done with winter.
He spotted Ushijima almost immediately, standing where the overhead heaters didn’t quite reach. Coat zipped, duffel slung across one shoulder, still—of course—five minutes early.
(In which a chocolatier leaves Paris for Warsaw, learns how fire behaves differently in a hearth kitchen, and discovers that building a life with someone means letting the quiet parts speak for themselves.)

Summary
“Wakatoshi-kun!” Tendou’s voice sings through the line, bright even though he must have just worked a whole shift. His stamina has gotten much better since they were younger, and even just that thought quells some of the anxiety swirling in his heart. “I almost missed your birthday! How is it, being twenty five, finally!”
“It is the same as being twenty four,” he replies, honestly.
Wakatoshi inherits a compass that points towards home.
He still gets a little lost trying to find his way.

When Ushijima agreed to the photoshoot for a sportswear brand he favors, he didn't think he'd be modeling with his ex. They haven't seen each other in years, not since he broke up with Tendou in an airport and sent the other man back to France, both nursing broken hearts.
(He also didn't think he'd end the day fucking his ex in a bathroom, but no one ever called Ushijima a prophet.) -

Summary
Ushijima stares down at him, his olive-brown eyes smoldering and boiling, and says, much to Tendou’s shock, “I believe two can play that game.”
Tendou goes speechless. “What?”
This is not what he was expecting. At all. Is he supposed to be nervous about this unpredictable development?
Ushijima seems to read the confusion on his face for what it is because he smiles, not in a kind or reassuring way, more of in a wickedly playful way.
Tendou thinks he feels all the blood drain out of his face when he sees Ushijima’s curved lips move and hears him speak, with stunning clarity. “Your turn, Satori.”
It's been six months since Ushijima last saw his boyfriend, and with Tendou's most recent visit comes an impossible question. Sex before or after their high school reunion? The answer is, of course, after. The problem is that Tendou thinks otherwise (and is extremely willing to go the extra mile to prove to him why).
