“Please,” the witcher says again, his voice rough. He looks down to the man cradled in his arms like a babe. Even as Pyotr stares, the held man makes a low whimper of discomfort, his face flushed and slick with sweat from a clearly high fever. The witcher hitches him closer, even leaning his head in slightly as if he wants to nuzzle against him.
There’s no accounting for it, frankly. From everything Pyotr’s heard of witchers through the years, the man should be a pillar of stone, built for killing, nothing more, nothing less. He shouldn’t be holding someone close with clear desperation borne of closeness, shouldn’t have a trepidation in his eyes that Pyotr recognizes from looking in the mirror in his wife’s final days.

“Who?” the man asked, perplexed.
“Geralt, the witcher,” Jaskier elaborated.
“We haven’t seen any witchers,” the man looked genuinely puzzled.
“I arrived with him yesterday. He took care of your nekker problem.”
“Nekker problem?” Was the man daft? “It was just you who came in yesterday. With your horse. Are you feeling alright, Master Bard?” The man had the audacity to look at Jaskier as if he was the mad one.
When Geralt disappears after an argument, no one in the small village they're in seems to remember him. Except Jaskier and an old woman with a chilling secret.
Someone always disappears at this time of year, and no one remembers they ever existed in the morning. The Fair Folk steal them away and they are never seen again.
Until now. Jaskier refuses to leave Geralt to his fate. He will get him back.
