They aren't.

Things aren't easier because if someone's soulmate dies before their seventeenth birthday the surviving part will never know that there was someone meanth for them.
Things aren't easier because the sight of a blood-red mark means death, and the despair of having lost half of one's soul is almost impossible to overcome.
Things aren't easier because the marks don't always match.
Things aren't easier because, sometimes, the marks don't have a romantic nature,they just symbolize a bond, a connection, something meant to exist in a way or another.
Things aren't easier because the flowers that appear alongside the name, while only symbolizing the first stages of the relationship the pair will have, are often scary.
