Ephiny leans around to get a better look at Xena. “You know, it’s good that you came with her this time.” She struggles to keep a straight face, biting her lip to prevent whatever she’s threatening to say from escaping before she’s ready.
Xena’s mouth quirks into an inquisitive, infuriating little smile. “And why’s that?” Her voice drops at the end of the sentence, playing into the carefree air she gives off to hide just how curious she really is.
A mischievous wrinkle pops up above Ephiny’s nose. Though she’s addressing Xena, she keeps her eyes on Gabrielle as she says, “Because it’s tradition for the queen’s champion to do everything the queen asks of her on her birthday.”
or, both gabrielle and xena are pleasantly surprised by how much they like this little reversal of power.
