“Well.” Michael puts his glass down on his coaster. Taps the hobnailed glass with his fingertips, once, twice. Then, as casually as he’s said anything else that evening, “I had a really shitty day at work and I was hoping to work that frustration out by fucking some stranger.”

“Why does everyone keep looking at me like that?”

Summary
It’s a hell of a heat wave, but Dennis doesn’t mind at first. For one thing, back home gets warmer, that wide-open blue sky pouring out baking heat like water from a pitcher. So he’s used to it, just like the bitter winter wind doesn’t faze him buffeting through skyscrapers any more than it does roaring across open fields under stark stars.
That, and he likes how much everybody sweats. Smells nice.
You couldn’t drag this fact out of him with wild horses, for it’s very much something a guy keeps to himself, but it makes him crazy. Dizzy, sometimes—thank God for heat suppressants.
