But he's never been close enough to feel surrounded by the scent. Maybe if he closed his eyes it would be like it was just Avery. Like he was being held close to the real Avery, instead of the thing that had overtaken them. Maybe he could just pretend it was a terrible, terrible dream.
Then something cold and sharp and biting hits him, underneath the Avery of it all. Not a dream at all, he despairs.

Cypher still hasn't told them his name. It feels too much like the last piece of a puzzle before they truly know him, before he's laid bare before them with nothing to hide behind- not his mask, not his codename. He wants to make the reveal special, except he messes up and just tells Omen on accident after waking up, which brings him to tell Sasha too. He doesn't expect to get fucked for it. Literally.

Cypher’s used to nightmares; the kinds that leave you unable to breathe once woken up, body trembling and muscles tense. Unable to speak, move, able to do nothing but lay in his bed, wishing he could just melt into his mattress and disappear, hoping his blankets will swallow him whole.
He doesn't think he'll ever get better- doesn't think he deserves it, not after what he's done, and yet a single day spent with Omen and Sova somehow convince him that maybe, perhaps, he's worth more than his past.
