“Double espresso-”
“On it,” says Pete’s unfiltered mouth, his hands already moving, before it belatedly occurs to him that he’s just cut a customer off. “Sorry, you were saying?”
The man’s stony expression doesn’t change but Pete feels like he’s being scolded anyway.
“Double espresso over ice,” he says.
And boy, doesn’t that just absolutely obliterate the moment.

Nick Bradshaw is a distant blurry concept that lived in his mother's memories and musty tomes of old faded photographs. He’s not the one Bradley busted his ass to impress growing up; the one he bled and cried for, and whose attention he spent his entire childhood obsessively trying to capture like lightning in a bottle.
