Wilhelm squeezes his hand. He doesn’t know who, exactly, he’s trying to comfort.
“And… And I don’t even recognize myself anymore. I don’t know if I can keep doing this, Wille,” Simon admits. His voice breaks on Wilhelm’s name, and Wilhelm’s heart breaks on every word.

Summary
Simon was just about to make a run for it when he felt a hand on his flannel, not pulling him but stopping him from running away. He didn’t want to look, eyes down at the floor and hands by his sides, but in his peripheral he could see Wille’s hand on his shirt, white knuckled and tugging ever so gently. They were giving Simon a chance to leave, but also letting him know they wanted him to stay.
