“Oh,” Jinx says knowingly, glancing Vi’s way out of the corner of her eye. “That’s the, uh, the cop girl, right? Maddie’s ex?”
A chorus of mutters and nods is the response.
“I’m being warned about her,” Vi tells her sister and Jinx blows her bangs out of her face.
“Good,” she says, almost snappishly. “Yeah, don’t date cop girl. You should date someone cool.”
“I’m not going to date anyone, not for a while. I need to get back on my feet first,” says Vi, drumming her fingers against the condensation of the glass. Thinking of Cupcake in her contacts, and that teasing smile.
Everything in Vi’s life right now is starting over. She’s spending the holidays on her sister’s pull-out futon, trying to make sense of the avalanche of changes, salvage what’s left of her family and figure out what she’s going to do next. The last thing she expects to do is include the beautiful woman she runs into on her first day in town, or this Caitlyn that everyone’s warning her to stay away from.

Summary
Vi rolled her eyes slightly, shrugging and still refusing to meet her sister’s gaze. “Right. So you find me a date that doesn’t know what I look like, I go out with her looking… less hot, and then if she sticks around that proves she likes me for my great personality.”
With a slightly screwed up expression that meant she was about to argue back, Caitlyn sat back in her seat and crossed her arms again, giving a little shrug.
“Fine. I’ll give it a shot. You set me up with a woman who doesn’t know who I am, and I’ll give it a fair try. See if my horrid personality doesn’t scare her away.”
Believing they keep attracting shallow dates, Vi and Caitlyn separately agree to go ‘undercover’ for their next one, hiding parts of themselves. When they’re unknowingly set up with each other, they both struggle between wanting to being authentic and wanting to stubbornly prove a point, as they’re forced to rely on their personalities to make the relationship work.

Caitlyn panicked, feeling extraordinarily unprepared having been thrust into her new position without so much as even a handbook to consult. What were the formalities? What was she supposed to respond with? Where was the damn push to talk button…
“Hellooo? I said Houston, do you copy?”
Caitlyn fiddled with her headset, having finally found the green button on the side and hastily letting out a rather breathless reply. “Um, yes. Hello? This is Houston. I copy.”
There was a long pause in which Caitlyn sat twiddling her thumbs, anxiety pushing the frantic pulse of her heartbeat through her eardrums. Was that wrong? Did she already fuck up? She took a steady deep breath, finger hovering over the talk button until the familiar voice of the astronaut came through her headset once more.
“Damn, Houston. I didn’t expect you to sound so sexy.”
OR
Caitlyn has been assigned as the personal capcom to one of the astronauts currently on a year long expedition at the international space station. Cue long months of pining and desperate longing.

The rocket hit the Council Tower, breaking it in pieces and it was like the sky was splitting open to share all the tears the people of Piltover were crying over their Council members. The tears Caitlyn was crying over the mere thought of her mother in that tower. It hasn’t stopped ever since.
It’s like it’s taunting her. It hasn’t stopped in days like it keeps wanting to remind her of every single thing she’s ever done wrong. Leaving Powder in the rain. Breaking her promise in the rain. Leaving Caitlyn in the rain. Then holding her in the rain as they watched fire and smoke take over the city Caitlyn loved. And then leaving her again…in the rain. Like a fucking coward.

Vi walked forward the final few strides and slid in next to her.
Vi cleared her throat, doing her best not to startle her, “Is uh…is that you?” she asked, inclining her head toward the screen when the woman - Gods, she was fucking gorgeous - lifted her head to look at Vi with beautiful, curious blue eyes.

A new law in Piltover prevents Zaun convicts from working topside without citizenship. Luckily for Vi, all she and Caitlyn have to do is take the next step of their relationship and get married, securing Vi a place in Piltover.

She's content with her lot in life, or so she thinks.
Until she meets Vi. A woman who is not suffering the mother of all dry spells, who is not desperate, and who is not batting way above her league. Caitlyn's not just unattainable, she's a museum exhibit; look, but don't touch. Which is a damn shame because Vi really, really wants to touch.
In other words, two lesbians in desperate need of companionship, but neither seem capable of doing what they want. Gods help them.
