    Summary

Gongseop's face is unmoving, even more so than the bell was, but his pupils flick downwards towards Taesoo's noble fist, then even further down towards the ground—their feet—and Taesoo realises belatedly, ah, shit, touchy subject.

Fuck you, Gongseop mutters, the words are painless but the way he presses his thumb into Taesoo's wounded eye is decidedly not, a hiss escapes from between Taesoo's teeth, like someone is digging a dagger into the socket—he drags roughly around the sphenoid, ethmoid, lacrimal, all the bones the doctor had pointed out on the model of a skull—I'm going soft on you this time, but come up to the temple again and see what happens, bitch.

    Summary

Klavier stared through the window in silence. In that silence, Simon could hear his reprisals of the past.

Unattainable approval. Standards never to be met. A throne of lies that he had been too naïve to see Kristoph’s manicured hands construct, even as his own—scarred from guitars and stained with ink—followed in their act, desperate for cheers and applause as they used the tools forged before them. And all of it, he had done with an eager, show-stopping smile.

Klavier did not smile now. He only continued to stare with a severity that hardened his eyes and cast stark shadows upon his features.

Kristoph Gavin stared back. A smile pulled at his lips. It did not fit among the gaunt features of his countenance, his eyes shadowed by hollows, his cheeks sunken into the bone beneath; but then, none of his physical appearance corresponded with his demeanor. He lifted his head, just barely, pale hair streaming down in a perfect, precise curl onto the gurney whose straps bound him. Then his voice crackled over the speakers. “My, my, what a surprise… It’s been four years too many,” he said, “Klavier.”

Simon Blackquill accompanies Klavier Gavin to his brother's execution.

His fingers brushed through his hair. Klavier leaned into his touch as he followed along the roots, tracing the curl of each golden lock flowing from his head, soft and smooth and featherlight beneath fingertips, and leaving the faint aroma of citrus where his hands roamed. As his fingers fell to the curve of his nape, his hand stilled; and, gently, he returned his hand to the top of his head, stroking his hair once again.

He had seen the act of affection from Metis to Athena, years ago.

Now, it seemed all he could do as sobs wracked through Klavier, deafening despite how the fabric of his jinbaori muffled the sound. They shook convulsions down his spine, heaving his shoulders, as if the weight of his grief was far too heavy a burden to bear; but if Klavier were to crumble before him, to fall, Simon vowed to catch him.

    Summary

Synopsis: Tomioka Giyuu was an enigma the moment Uzui Tengen laid eyes on him. How could someone live life constantly in a state of grief and depression? How dreary and bleak. There was nothing flamboyant or flashy about the way the Water Pillar seemed to drift aimlessly. But there was an unheard sound beyond the still waters of the Water Pillar’s outer exterior—something soft, something dulcet, something Uzui could not place his finger on. If being raised as a shinobi taught Tengen anything worthwhile, it would be to observe and listen. And if that’s what it took to decode Giyuu Tomioka, you better believe that’s damn well what he’s going to do.

    Bookmarker's Notes

When children are afraid to speak, they remain silent.

When children are taught to be silent, atrocious things can happen, and they will not utter a word.

    Care has been awfully silent.

What did you do to her?
