"What if you couldn't? Then what?" The last thing that he wants to imagine is finding Rover's body somewhere, their child never to be born. Jiyan thinks he'd try and bring the two of them back on his own if so Threnodian help him. "And you still haven't answered my question."
His mate takes a breath. "I was looking for the residue of the Threnodian. Underwater. The Order had an Echo Factory."
"I would have appreciated if you told me this sooner," Jiyan replies. He tries to keep his anger and bitterness from showing. "Preferably before you went and left. I could have joined you."
Rover's eye twitches. "It was better that you didn't, General."

Rover only snorts, a sign that he's confident in what he can do, in other situations this would be comforting. However, right now it's exasperating at best. Jiyan loves him, he swears. "And I've deflected the Heavenly Dao; your cock can't be that powerful—"
"Rover!"
He does not correct his partner on the fact that dragons have multiple dicks, that would be the equivalent of digging his grave. Any of Rover's questions later means that he will be digging himself later so much so that he won't be able to turn him down with those large gold eyes. He sighs, maybe Rover will let it go— And Jiyan won't think of taking him like a dragon's bride.

Qiuyuan doesn't have a retort to that, not really. The two of them both know it's true, then he hears the barkeep pausing before them. He wonders what she thinks their relationship is. He would say that it's one of partnership, one built on trust that neither of them will wake up with a knife in their neck the next morning.
