They can’t find her.
The Hunter’s Association database confirms the dates and location she told him about. Her more dangerous missions tend not to be registered there at all. There’s a hotel reservation under her name in the city she told him she would be in and her belongings are in the room, but his contacts tell him the staff haven’t seen her enter or exit recently. The security footage confirms she checked into the hotel and spent the night there, but after leaving the following morning with her day bag there’s no footage of her leaving or returning. Her brooch allowing her to freely enter and leave the N109 Zone has been left back at her apartment. There is no location information for her cell phone after the first day of her arrival, nor for her Hunter’s watch.

“Why do I smell blood?” Sylus sniffed, his voice rough with sleep. He cracked his eyes open.
I threw the covers over the bloody stain.
“Sweetie? What’s wrong?”
“I-it’s nothing. Go back to sleep.” I doubled over and hissed as pain shot through me like lightning, from my gut to my hips to my legs. When Zayne had seen me on my last cycle, he’d said classic endometriosis and suggested referring me to a gynaecologist… perhaps I should have listened.
“You wouldn’t be lying to me now, kitten?”

Zayne sighs and hits the end call button again. Every call goes straight to voicemail. He can’t help but be worried.
The rain is coming down in torrents outside. It hits the windows like angry fists. The wind howls like wolves in the night. The streets are flooded, but even if they weren’t you took your bike into work today and all public transport is closed. He called your coworkers earlier, just on the off chance you actually listened to the shelter in place warnings, but they said you’d left an hour ago.
His pacing is going to eat through to the apartment below if you don’t turn up soon.
