“How do you do it?” Xie Lian blurts, breath warm against Hua Cheng’s lips when he leans down closer. Hua Cheng’s eyebrows arch up, stunned.

“How do I do what?” he says, quieter than he intended.

“Pleasure yourself.” Xie Lian doesn’t stutter, and as proud as Hua Cheng feels of him, it stops him in his tracks. It strikes him deep in his stomach like a hot poker, directly into his hearth. “When you're alone. When I'm away.” The flush on his cheeks deepens with his next words. “...Do you think of me?” he whispers, and Hua Cheng’s skin prickles.

"San Lang?" Xie Lian whispers against his jaw. Hua Cheng hums, tilting his head to him. His cheek bumps into his forehead, and Xie Lian squeezes him gently, along with the tingle of warmth that spreads through him at the contact. With his fingers tracing the swirled, thin embroidery of a dragon along the silk of Hua Cheng's robe, he asks, still in a hushed voice, "Will you tell me about your mother?"

Hua Cheng stills under his hand, but only for a moment. His head shifts against his temple, and Xie Lian watches clawed fingers reach for the blue tassels hanging tied around his waist. He simply holds the flared ends, running his thumb over the clumped strings and threading them through his knuckles as he thinks. Xie Lian waits patiently, even through this sudden tension in the air and against the swirling in his gut.

    "...My mother?"

    Summary

Yet, despite its overwhelming dissonance, despite all the molar-grinding concessions disguised as compromise, the appearance of the wedding itself wasn’t what now had Xie Lian choking on his own pesky expectations as they came surging sourly up his throat– but rather, the one and only empty place to be found in the entire venue.

    The altar.

Xie Lian’s first thought was a mortifying head-on collision: one, that he couldn’t believe it, and two, that he should have fucking known.

    -

After his decade-long, soul-sucking relationship with Jun Wu ends with being left at the altar, Xie Lian decides to take his life back into his own hands once and for all— starting with his would-be luxury honeymoon, now turned solo trip.

Out of practice with relaxation, Xie Lian doesn't expect much more than a week of privacy in which to lick his wounds and try to start over. He certainly doesn't expect San Lang, the bold and spirited young man he encounters on the way, who seems determined to raise Xie Lian’s standards /for/ him, who somehow has all the gossip on the island resort they’re both going to— as well as its notorious owner, Hua Cheng.

Maybe 'unexpected' is exactly what Xie Lian needs.

    Summary

It is a weird thing to wake up and realise that for the first time in 800 years, you are no longer in love. Hua Cheng felt it even before he opened his eyes, could taste it in the back of his throat. Even the air around him felt different: stale, and with a strange odour to it. With his eyes still closed, he took stock of his other mental facilities, and it all came back in order, except—

Except that for the first time in 800 years, he thinks of Xie Lian and feels nothing.

(in which Hua Cheng's devotion gets stolen, and no one is happy about it.)

It is common knowledge in Ghost City that His Highness the Crown Prince is more merciful than the Ghost King. If you need to bet on something, enter the Gambler's Den. If you desperately need help, also enter the Gambler's Den. His Highness will surely heed your pleas.

Make sure to have some sense of humanity first, though.
