The thing is that Sirius has been a little bit in love with Remus since… forever.
Maybe not forever, but he knows that one day in secondary school he looked at his best friend, the one that made the inside of his chest feel like a bruised peach and thought, Oh. I think I’m in love with you. He didn’t really know what love meant yet, or the difference between platonic love and familial love or the love that his parents claimed to hold for each other and their sons, but he felt it all the same, turning his entire teenage world upside down.

Summary
Remus lives a peaceful and solidary life in his cottage in the Forbidden Forest. One day, his life is interrupted after he saves an illegal animagus James from some Aurors, who decides to stay in the safety of Remus's home. Turns out a whole pack of werewolves, discriminated against by the Ministry of Magic, makes the same decision and sets camp in front of his house.
Remus and James go to Dumbledore, who has enough influence in the wizarding world to stop the Ministry and let Remus regain his privacy.

Shrek movie, but with Marauders set in wizarding England.

Summary
Physical affection was a part of Sirius’ love: he touched and grabbed and urged people to scoot over so he could fit into the tiniest space. Of course Remus knew, he had been a proud receiver of his affection for years—until very recently, at least, until it just… stopped.
Sirius' sudden distance was odd. The full moon was barely a week ago, and it went great. The wolf was happy to see its pack, ran around with Padfoot all night before tiring itself and falling asleep. Sirius was by his side when he woke up too, along with Peter and James, and Remus might not have the best senses freshly woken up after a full moon but this truly seemed abrupt. Especially that it only applied to him.
