Maybe Will really did bite the dust in dimension x and this is the afterlife. He knows where they say boys like him end up after death.
But if hell was a baby-faced Mike Wheeler, still looking at him like he'd hung the stars, then maybe an eternity here wouldn't be so bad.
In which Will's connection to the hive mind has consequences in the final battle, sending him back in time to November 6th 1983.
It's just like Back to the Future, if Marty McFly was a twelve year old with a bowl cut trying to save the world.

Stephen had to bite back a scoff, "I'm sorry, Peter, but even making everyone forget you exist won't be enough. Your very existence is the problem now. To fix this, we need to- I will need to erase you."
"What-what? What do you-"
"I'm sorry, Peter. If I had more time, maybe I could find another solution, but at our current state, all I could do, is make it so you never existed in our universe."
"Never exist? You mean, I-I'll die? Again?" Peter's voice trembled.
"You won't have to. I can send you to a different universe, one where Peter Parker- where Spider-Man has never existed. You won't have to die, you won't exist here anymore, but you can still live." Stephen chose to omit how low the success rate was. He wanted to give the kid hope.
"Live a good life, Peter."

Summary
Peter Parker loses everything to save the universe—and then loses the universe anyway.
After being launched into Gotham by a multiversal maniac with a deeply personal vendetta, Peter wakes up as a kid again in a city he doesn't recognize. There's someone called Batman here. There are way too many Robins. Something called a Justice League exists, and Peter is pretty sure this is what copyright infringement feels like.
Gotham already lost its Spider-Man once, it's not letting this one go so easily.
(Somehow, Peter finally finds a home.)
