the above is my original description of the following ~6K words of entirely self-indulgent and overspecific self insert that i invented an entire new quenya word for.
you, the tenth-walker, are a half-elf, a middle earth anthropologist of sorts. you're also autistic (but they don't have a word for that yet). you have a history of depression and self harm that you are determined to hide from the fellowship. especially from aragorn, who cares about you too much for his own good...

If asked, Cody wouldn’t be able to say when he picked the habit up. It started small, little stick figures scratched into the walls of his bunk, smiling faces carved into his nutrient mush in the mess hall.
It made his batchmates smile, and the Kaminoans didn’t seem to care or notice, so he kept going—doodling spirals and faces and birds and stars on the edges of his datawork, telling stories on the ground with a stick of charcoal, inking designs onto his brothers’ skin with the stylus they had found lying on the ground.
Even the advent of war didn’t seem to curb Cody’s urge to draw, to bring his surroundings to life under his stylus. He kept it hidden—it wasn’t very Marshal Commander-like to spend what little free time he had holed up in his quarters with his stylus and the notepad made of real flimsi that Rex had bought him.
His General snuck his way onto the pages of Cody’s notepad without him realizing it.

He doesn’t answer. In the silence that permeates the air, you can sense his conflict. He reaches out cautiously, the very tips of his fingers just barely grazing the curve of your jaw under your ear. You're fortunate there's a desk separating you. Otherwise, you’d melt into that feather of a touch without reservation. You know that now. And once you did, there would be no recovery afterward. Would it be worth the cost ?
His hand moves from your jaw to your padawan braid which he gives a gentle, affectionate tug. "It will stop hurting, dear one," he says. "I believe that."
You can't help wondering if he only believes it because he has to. Because the hurting hasn't stopped for him, either.
