Summary
It is important to know that what happens next is not his fault.
He is dead to the world so he doesn't hear the hissing from somewhere in his apartment floor. He is so asleep he doesn't feel a weight drop on his bed. He is dreaming so he doesn't feel a snake bite on his neck when the dreams run out.
It is even more important to know that the novel Wei Wuxian came from was not only known for it's amazing cast and costumes, but also for the ending that managed to somehow devastate everyone.
Even the characters that remained alive did not get their happily ever after.
OR
The one where Wei Ying finds himself inside a novel bought for discount at a bookstore. The novel is good and all but he only knows the plot from the memes so...

So he knows. Great.
The only thing worse than coming in your pants like a pubescent school boy at the thought of being drained of every last drop of blood, is the guy who was sucking your blood to notice.
Dan really needs some money to pay his rent. Phil really needs blood to survive. It's a pretty good deal, and Dan gets a lot more than he bargained for.
