Will laughs at that, livid and mirthless. “Was it so obvious, Dr. Lecter?”
“I don’t wish to fight you, Will. I only seek to understand where this rage is coming from.”
Will stutters, aggrieved and at a loss for words. In the meantime, Hannibal waits, observing how Will directs his anger at him for broaching the subject, then at himself for feeling upset about it. “I just— I just hate it, is that too much to understand? It’s ridiculous. It’s petty and irrational, I know, but I— I never felt like a William. It sounds awkward and archaic and— and—”
“Masculine?” Hannibal supplies and he doesn’t miss how Will tenses, how he opens his mouth as if to disprove it, only for the fight to leave him all at once. Perhaps three months ago he would’ve denied it outright, but now nothing seems to be as dire as learning that you are dating the Chesapeake Ripper.
Will sighs heavily. “Yeah. You could say that.”
Will experiences gender euphoria for the first time with Hannibal's help.
