"Gen removed his favorite earrings and stretched up to hold them in his fist above the gleaming altar. For you, he thought. And he opened his hand and let the earrings slowly peel away from his sweaty palm. They landed musically on the tangle of other offerings." That line, from "Irrevocable" by dolphin_ring, got me in the feels - have a fanart of small Eugenides mourning his mother.

Summary
Chime is, apparently, useless. No one else seems to notice or care that their first consort wears almost the exact same jewelry to every formal event.
Really. It's been years.
So River takes matters into his own hands.

Moon/River (/Chime), wider than the Grand Canyon, apparently. Starts with River getting huffy over Moon's dress sense, travels to all sorts of all unforeseen places before the final, "That's All, Folks!"

Summary
The Purple Island wasn't inhabited, or at least not anymore. There were signs that some sort of groundlings had lived there once, in the wide stone slabs, now coated with slippery seaweed and tiny, sharp shells, that went down to the water, and the tall, crumbling structures that stood in the jungle, with flat tops draped in vines whose purpose the Raksura couldn't guess. Now it was a place where they came once a year or so, to harvest the mollusks that made a treasured purple dye, and incidentally to eat fish and clams and enjoy the sun on the beach. It was a task that the Arbora often bickered over, trying to lay claim to the responsibility, but as for Jade, Moon, and Chime, Jade had simply announced that they would be going with the group this year, and no one (except a consort) could possibly argue with a queen.

It's a tradition in Raksuran courts that a sire will get his ears pierced with his consort fledglings when the fledglings leave the nursery. Moon makes sure that Thorn and Bitter get to have this experience.

Summary
“Where’s Irene?”
“Still asleep.” Helen yawned. “Nina checked on her about twenty minutes ago. I think she had a rough night last night. She doesn’t usually drink that much.”
“Did she say anything to you?”
“No.” Now Helen was looking at him warily. “Why, did something happen?”
“Nothing,” Gen said immediately. “Don’t worry about it.”
