Jason lounged in the chair across from her, steam wafting up from the cup in his hands. He’d given her his phone number yesterday, after making good on his promise to walk her to the fabric shop. “You better not let my hard work go to waste,” he’d told her, and Marinette had stifled a smile; she knew — or, at least, was fairly sure — that had been his way of saying he cared about what happened to her. She didn’t entirely know how that had led to this moment, sitting across from him in a coffee shop, a black coffee in his hands and a surprisingly decent scone in hers. But here they were.
Following Hawkmoth's defeat, Marinette — alone, jaded, and sworn never to use a miraculous again — heads to Gotham for a new start. It even seems to be going fairly well; she keeps designing, improves at navigating the city, and even meets a (astonishingly hot) guy who she keeps having coffee shop maybe-dates with.
But as the universe seems intent on reminding her, it doesn't matter how far she runs — it's not nearly that easy to escape the hero life.
