Summary
There are plenty of things Varric and Hawke are good at: snide remarks, drinking the swill served at the Hanged Man, getting into trouble, nearly dying but still managing not to, witty one-liners…but sitting down and talking about their feelings? Eh, not so much. That goes double when the feelings in question are of a, uh, complicated nature. Or romantic. Or both. And Maker help them, but things have absolutely entered ‘both’ territory. Surely they’ll figure it out, right? Right. …right?
Hawke and Varric try to figure some stuff out.

Summary
When Hawke arrives at Skyhold, the Inquisitor very quickly comes to suspect maybe, just MAYBE, Varric’s been lying about much more than simply not knowing where she’s been all along. Like…everything. Literally every. Single. Thing. Which is fine, really – storytellers are known for bending the truth after all – but the more people she talks to, the stranger the picture becomes, leaving her to wonder…why?
Why has he been lying about Hawke this whole time? Why was Hawke so quick to come to Skyhold after hiding herself away for so long? And more to the point, after the tragedy that befell Haven, why are the two of them acting so suspiciously cheerful?
Though she can’t be sure yet where Hawke the character ends and Hawke the person begins, the Inquisitor is perfectly aware of one thing: They’ve just accepted a dangerous stranger into their midst, and as their de facto leader, it’s up to her to try and figure out Hawke’s motivation for suddenly deciding to lend a hand. …and to listen in on as much gossip as possible, obviously.

There’s something about the way Varric and her sister work together that Bethany just can’t wrap her head around. On paper, it all makes sense – they’re both dangerously persuasive rogues, quick to pick your pocket yet somehow quicker still to talk the coin out of your hand; they’re crafty, they’re cunning, they’re charismatic, and, in a pond like Kirkwall, their partnership doesn’t just make them big fish but sharks. Together, there’s no scheme they can’t pull off, no heist they can’t manage, no lock they can’t slip their way past…
But there’s something else going on between them, too. Something Bethany, well, can’t quite put her finger on. Maybe she’s just imagining it. Maybe this is how ALL business partners act! After all, what else COULD it be?

Merlin ducks forward, grabbing Arthur’s hands. His are cool and soft, and Arthur is surprised by the feel of Merlin’s palm over his own rough knuckles. “Arthur,” he says pointedly. “I know my duty, and I don’t need you to remind me. Are you always like this?”
“Like what?”
“Annoying,” Merlin says, and leans back, appraising him more thoughtfully than his tone suggests. “So concerned with your honour.”
Or: Arthur must marry Lord Emrys for a year to create an alliance between their people. Except it isn't Emrys who comes to marry him, but the young druid Merlin, who soon turns all of Camelot upside down—and Arthur with it.

Astarion still liked her even after he found out about the Urge. He still likes her, now, even as he sits just far enough away from her that their shoulders aren’t quite touching.
The thing is that Lenore loves him. Lenore loves Astarion more than she imagines she has ever loved anything, ever, past life of missing memories be damned. And it doesn’t matter if she wants to curl up against him. She doesn’t want to make him uncomfortable—it’s not something he wants, he’d said—and her own hands are too stained with blood for her to even try.
She’ll take it in stride. She’ll only touch him when he initiates it, and even then she will hold her breath until it’s gone.
She loves him, is the thing. She’s not going to do that to him.
