Summary
Someone started leaving food for Wayne during the worst of his grief. He is a little curious when the pain of loss eases with time but he doesn't mean to uncover who it is. He is not sure how that one thing leads to Steve filling up the empty spaces of the trailer but it is nice... more than nice.

"Come in and tell me about it?"
Steve grimaces, looking a lot like the Henderson kid had when Wayne had mustered up the courage to go and ask him questions about it. Just like that kid Steve is apologetic when he says, "I- I can't talk about it." He looks green around the gills, haunted by whatever happened that week. Henderson had given him a little more, rambled about the government and nondisclosure agreements that painted a picture along with his spiffy brand new trailer they had paid for.
"Come in and eat with me then?" Wayne doesn't know why he asks, maybe he is just tired of being alone in the trailer and Steve looks as lost and lonely as he feels at times. Before Steve can pick one way or the other Wayne hooks him with, "food is always better with company." Steve nods in agreement and follows Wayne up the steps inside.

“Let’s get this over with.” Steve mutters, setting his shoulders and planting his feet.
Out of the corner of his eye, Gareth can see that Wayne is watching their standoff with a calculating expression.
“We’re airing this out and moving on. And we are going to do it before Eddie gets home.” Harrington states with a finality that sets Gareth’s teeth grinding. As if Steve is the one who’s more concerned about their friend’s feelings than Gareth is at this point.Or
Gareth has had just about enough of Steve Harrington in the fall of '86. He sets about to do something about it. It takes an angry mob, a Corroded Coffin gig and a baseball bat full of nails for him to change his mind.
Gareth gets mad, Eddie gets beat up, Steve gets violent and Wayne is just really tired of everyone's shit.

“Leave it in,” says Eddie, voice weirdly low and toneless. He hasn’t moved from his spot by the door, fingers still hovering over the light switch, but the way he is staring at Steve now makes his hand freeze in its attempt to yank the tiara out. It’s not just hungry anymore. It’s downright predatory, those big brown eyes aglow with something Steve doesn’t think he’s ever seen in them. Something raw, something primal. Steve’s stomach gives a funny little swoop.
“Wh- … what?” he hears himself croak.
“I said,” Eddie kicks the door shut with his boot, eyes never once leaving Steve, then crosses the distance between them in two quick strides. Steve’s ass hits the washbasin painfully, hands flying down to clutch the edge for balance as Eddie pushes him against it. “Leave. It. In.”

Eddie nearly chokes on his own spit.
“Do- … What d’you- … Give you a piercing?”
“Of course,” Steve says, like it's no big deal. His hand rubs gentle circles into Eddie’s back to help him catch his breath. “Why, what were you thinking?”
Eddie doesn’t reply. He's a horny, gay loser with a hopeless crush, not an idiot.
“Am I hearing this right or is there something wrong with the weed?” he asks instead. “You, Steve Harrington, want me, Eddie Munson, to pierce your ears?”
Steve hesitates, and for a moment, Eddie is convinced that this is the part where he chickens out. Then, he sits up straighter. His face goes serious.
“Not my ears,” he says. “I had something else in mind. If you think you're up to it, that is.”

Her eyes stray over the sunlit meadow, to where Eddie is roughing around with Dustin, dar, frizzy curls whipping around his smiling face.
Steve snorts. “Yeah, right. Most people don’t even have one.”
“Most people don't even meet one,” she shrugs. “I think it's more a thing of probability than-”
Steve scoffs. It comes out a bit too harshly, maybe, because the whole conversation is veering dangerously close to the one he had with Nancy all those years ago, and he doesn’t want to be reminded of that now.
“And you think I just have two soulmates running around in the immediate vicinity? Please!”
She raises her eyebrows.
He raises his back.
“Well, you won't know unless you ask him.”

It's nice, pretending they're just like any other couple in the semi-privacy of the car. When Steve slides into the driver's seat, his hand settles warm and heavy on Eddie’s knees, finding the tear in his jeans, and Eddie smiles. Yes, this is perfect, actually.
He loses himself in the movie for a bit - the subtle atmosphere of dread summoned by the black-and-white pictures, the gloomy music, the old-fashioned effects.

He lifts the shaker, snapping his wrist so the ice rattles sharp and loud over his shoulder. The cold metal bites into his palm. "So, what's your name, newbie?"
"Steve." Eddie strains the cocktail into a waiting glass, the liquid settling smooth and pale. He slides it across the bar. Steve watches it like it might detonate, fingers hovering before he finally wraps them around the glass. "Yours?"
"Eddie." He taps the bar once, twice, then leans forward against it, the edge pressing into his hips.
"And just so you know, Steve, if you're gonna order drinks with names like that, you gotta own it. Look 'em dead in the eye. Show no fear. We prey on weakness round here." He smiles, slow and crooked, enjoying the way Steve's shoulders tense and relax all at once.OR: I got sad that Eddie never got to see Steve in his S5 epilogue outfit and his stupid corduroy jacket so I made them fuck about it
