This isn’t happening.
It was easier that way, even though he’s far too self-aware to convince himself of the lie, he’d been determined to give it his best. The alternative, the acceptance of it, would lead to deciding and that is something he does not have the bandwidth for, then or now.
A part of him knew, refused to entertain it, but still knew. Though now, sitting in his cramped bathroom, holding a positive pregnancy test, the force that is plummeting down on him that there isn’t another reality anymore, no doubt left to ponder, is borderline suffocating.
This is, by all accounts, not what he meant when he decided to live for another.
