Summary

None of it matters when faced with the possibility of losing her. As she’s in surgery, Jack finds himself on the rooftop, haunted by the last night they swore would be the last. “What are you doing here?”
Jack leans back on his heels, the picture of relaxed ease. A dimple flashes on his cheek, like he’s charmed by her poor manners. “Can’t I visit my favorite vampire?”
She keeps her eyes trained on Jack’s face, doing her best to ignore the call of the steady, solid pulse of his jugular. Trying to ignore the sense memory of it in between her teeth. “I thought Robby was your favorite vampire.”
Jack grins in a flash of teeth. His are human, but no less dangerous to her, now that she knows the feel of his flesh beneath her own, the feel of him writhing beneath her. “There's been a recent upset in the rankings.”
