Chapter 1: The Parade
Chapter Text
Chapter 1
____________
LUZ’S POV
Luz was bored. Even though it was her birthday, nothing overly exiting was happening around her. It was the same thing every year. Wake up, eat breakfast, get dressed, attend the parade.
Why couldn’t they do something different for a change. Does it have to be a parade? Could it not be a ball, or a feast, or even maybe a day with just her and her father. Was that so much to ask for?
Luz was so lost in thought that she did not even hear her father speaking to her.
“Luz. Did you hear anything of what I just said?”
“Hmm? Sorry dad, could you please repeat that?” Luz said with a sheepish smile.
Her father, Emperor Belos, sighed. “I asked you what you would like for your birthday? Honestly Luz, you need to learn to pay more attention when someone speaks to you.”
“Sorry dad” Luz said looking down, suddenly very interested in her food. “Its just… I only want someone to spend some time with. I want someone I could have a normal conversation with, without them referring to me as “Your majesty” or “Your highness”. I want a friend. A real one.”
It was Belos’s turn to sigh. “My dearest daughter. You know why I can’t allow it. What if someone tries to hurt you again? You know that there’s people out there that would love to get their hands on you. To hurt you, or worse, to kill you. Do you really want that to happen? I don’t want a repeat of what happened to your mother.”
“I know dad. Its just… Im lonely you know? Having to hide who I am from people. Its not fair. I want to be normal for once, just to experience what it is like to have friends for a change.” Luz said while wiping away the tears that started to form in her eyes.
She pushed away her plate. Stood up and mumbled about going to her room to get ready before leaving the dining hall.
Walking up the stairs to her tower, she thought to herself. ‘This isn’t fair at all. Why do other people get to do normal things like hanging out with friends. Heck, I don’t even HAVE friends. The closest thing I have to a friend is Kikimora, and she’s just the person responsible of caring for me throughout the day. I didn’t even do anything wrong! Why would they try to kill me? I understand that there’s some people that doesn’t like my father. And I am the princess, so it would make sense to target me to get to him.’
She opened her door and walked into her bedroom. It was very large for a room on top of a tower. The room had a big brown carpet that covered the entire floor. Her bed was on the far side of the room, the bed was massive, it could easily have five people on it with room to spare. Not that it ever had anyone other than her on it that is.
The room was sparsely decorated. There was a few posters of the good witch Azura on the one wall. She had a few beanbags in the one corner, surrounded by bookshelves chock full of books, as it was one of the only ways she could connect with the outside world through the perspective of a normal person.
One wall was covered in windows from ceiling to floor, all of which could act like doors and open up to allow access to the balcony that overlooked Bonesburrow. She often spent nights lounging on the balcony on one of the beanbags that she dragged outside, looking up at the stars or at the flickering lights of the Nightmarket and the parties in the square.
She often wished that she could join them.
On another side of her room was a door that led into her bathroom and by extension her closet. Next to the door was where she stored all her training equipment. All her swords, bows, axes, suits of armour, and her magic related things. Like her staff, her cape, mask and all the books which she used to study.
A knock on the door broke her train of thoughts.
“Princess, may I come in?” It was Kikimora. She probably came to ensure that I was presentable for the parade.
“Come in!” Luz called, to which the demoness opened the door and came inside.
She walked over to Luz’s closed and went inside. After a few moments she came out with a dress in her hands. “Come Princess, we need to get you dressed. The parade’s soon you know.”
Seeing luz’s face, she sighed. “I know it’s hard my child. I understand why you are upset. You know why your father does what he does. he does it out of love, so please don’t be too harsh towards him. But tell you what, I’ll talk to him. It is high time you had some friends of you own age, don’t you think? Now come, time is short”
Luz was overjoyed, she stepped towards the small demoness and picked her up in a big hug. “thank you, thank you, thank you!” She said while spinning Kikimora around like a child would a doll.
________________
The streets were absolutely packed with people. It was after all, one of the biggest events of the year. Even though nobody knew what the princess looked like under her mask. A mask that looked just like any other coven mask, except that this one was silver and had a golden halo on top to signify that she was royalty. They loved her, for she was a very kind person.
Even though she rarely appeared in public except for occasions such as these. She always helped people in need. She donated to the orphanage, she visits the hospital sometimes to check on some of the patients and much more. So regardless, she was loved by the general public.
As Luz sat in her carriage, she looked around at all the people around her, and wished for the umpteenth time that day that she could join them in their partying.
Her father sat next to her, waving at the people in the streets. “Luz, you should wave back at the people, it is only common courtesy. You don’t want to appear rude do you?”
“Sorry dad, I was just a bit distracted.”
As the time wore on and they passed through the main plaza, she spotted a green haired witch that was looking at her with awe written all across her face. Luz found her very interesting. She was standing with a group of girls, all of them wearing the uniform of Hexide. There was a pink haired triclops girl standing next to her, looking down at her scroll, seemingly engrossed with something on the screen and completely oblivious to her surroundings.
The girl with the mint hair used her elbow to poke the triclops girl in her side, causing her to look up. She immediately spotted the princess staring at them.
With a cocky smile she waved at the princess and blew her a kiss, causing Luz to roll her eyes under her mask. She kept looking at the green haired girl who opted for a nervous smile and a blush while shyly waving at her.
‘Interesting… I need to find out more about that green haired girl. I’ll ask Kikimora about her later.’ Luz thought as she turned around to face the front of the carriage and continued to wave to the audience, willing for this parade to be over so that she could go talk to the demoness in private.
______________
Later that evening, Luz pulled the demoness aside as they were heading to the dining hall for supper.
“Kikimora, I need to talk to you for a second.”
“What seems to be the problem princess?” Kikimora asked, turning to face Luz.
“Well… Today at the parade. I saw this girl that caught my interest. I was wondering If you could tell me more about her?” Luz asked with a hopeful tone in her voice. “That is, if you want to.”
Kikimora sighed. “Luz dear, you know you don’t have to ask me for permission. It is my duty as your caretaker to serve you. What does this girl look like if I may ask?”
“Well, she had mint green hair and a Hexide uniform on… Oh! She’s in the abomination track.”
“Ah… That would be Amity Blight you saw. She is the youngest of the Blight household. Coincidently you are the same age as her.”
“Could you tell me what she is like?” Luz inquired with a pout on her face. “Please?”
The demoness was quiet for a few seconds, pondering the question. Finally after what felt like forever she answered. “Well, Luz. According to lady Lilith, she is a very bright and talented young witch. She excels in her school work and is very popular as a result.”
“How does Lilith know that?”
“Well, she is lady Lilith’s apprentice. She goes to the Blight manor few times a week to train her. I’ll tell you what, when I have had a talk to your father about you being allowed to have friends. I’ll ask Lilith to bring Amity here the next time she goes to train her, so that you can meet her and decide if you like her. Does that sound good to you Princess?”
Luz nodded eagerly and said. “Thank you Kikimora, I don’t know what I would do without you!” And then promptly ran into the dining hall towards her father, leaving the demoness in the hall.
Kikimora calmly followed the princess towards the Emperor. ‘I have a lot to discuss with lord Belos tonight. I better start thinking about how I’m going to convince him to allow this… don’t worry Princess, I won’t fail you. My only hope is that you get along with that Blight girl.’

AUTHORS NOTES
Right. This is a new fanfic I have been planning for a while now. I know that this first chapter is very very short. But it’s only a sort of introduction. The next one will be much longer, as will the rest. But for now this is the “pilot” chapter for The Light Of My Life, which will contain a lot of fluff, angst and hurt. Be prepared for a bumpy ride, as things get dark later in this fic.
Chapter 2: First Meeting
Chapter Text
Chapter 2 The meeting
Authors notes at the end of the chapter.
But firstly, I want to clear some things up that I feel you should know in order to further enjoy this fic. Firstly. In this AU both Amity and Luz are older than they are in the series, about 17 years of age. There will be a lot of OOC ness from the characters as I will write them as I see fit for this story. Ok, let the fic commence!

AMITY’S POV.
Knock knock knock.
Amity sighs, rolls over and pulls her pillow over her head.
Knock knock knock
“Mittens! You’re going to be late!”
“Hmmm… just five more minutes….” Amity mumbled, finally stirring from her sleep. She didn’t feel like getting out of bed today, after all, it’s Saturday today.”
She heard her door opening and two pairs of feet approaching. “Aaamityyy…. Waaake uuup… your gonna miss your date with the princess if you don’t get up soon.” Emira, her sister, said in a sing song voice.
Amity shot up in her bed, wide awake in the blink of an eye. She couldn’t believe that she forgot something so important. She had a meeting with the Emperor and the princess today. She blushed bright red.
“Emira! It’s not a date! I have simply been summoned that’s all. This is the PRINCESS your talking about, do you want to get petrified?”
“Oh relax. She can’t hear me. Anyways, you my dear sister, need to get changed. Mother is expecting you downstairs soon, isn’t that right Ed?”
Edric nodded his head in agreement and said. “Right you are sister. Come, we need to go get ready as well.” In a theatrical voice. To which Emira rolled her eyes and followed him out of the room, leaving Amity alone with her thoughts.
Begrudgingly she got up out of her bed. She walked into her bathroom to prepare for the day and froze in front of the mirror. She looked awful, her hair looked like something tried to make a nest in it and she could see the lines of dried drool across one of her cheeks.
I can’t look like this in front of the princess, she would immediately send me away. I can absolutely not take that chance. I need to look my best today if I want to have a chance of her taking a liking to me, now where’s my hairbrush?
She dug through the drawers of her dresser in search of her hair brush and make-up. When she finally found it she smiled with glee. This is the best quality products on the Boiling Isles, it’s sure to impress the princess. Now all that I have to do is get ready.
_______________
After completing her morning routine, Amity smiled at herself in the mirror. Her hair was nice and straight, combed out in her usual style, she put on her usual make-up and a little bit of blush. After all, if she wanted to impress the princess she should make herself look natural.
Looking in the mirror one last time to make sure that everything was indeed as it was supposed to be, she finally went downstairs to get breakfast.
Walking Into the dining room she spotted her parents and siblings in their usual places, so she took a seat across from her mother and lade food onto her plate.
Her mother looked up at her, cleared her throat and began to speak. “Amity dear, today is a very important day for the Blight household. You have the honor of not only meeting the Emperor, but also to meet the princess in person. As you know, that is not an honour many people have received. You better not disappoint me.”
“Yes mother. I am aware of the importance of today’s meeting, I plan to do everything in my power to impress the princess.” Amity said while eating her breakfast. She was fully aware of how big of an opportunity today was, and she was determined not to waste it.
“I hope you remember that Amity. If you disappoint me today the consequences will be dire. Now that that is out of the way, I urge you to finish up so that we can be on our way.”
Amity nodded and quickly finished up her food, stood up and made her way to the carriage waiting to take her to the Emperors castle. After all it was just her that was invited.
___________
On her way to the castle Amity began to panic. What if the princess didn’t like her? What if she accidently offended her by saying the wrong thing? The list goes on and on. She began to worry about what she was to say to her and how she should act. Does she look her in the eyes, or should she look at the floor. Should she kneel when talking to her or should she keep standing.
It was a well-known fact that the princess was a very generous person when in public, but when challenged or disrespected bad things tended to happen to the people responsible. It was not the princess that those things, but rather the guards that always surrounded her or in some extreme cases the Emperor himself.
Amity did not want to be one of those people that winded up dead because she accidently did something that was seen as disrespectful, so she would be very cautious around the princess for now. Till she could get closer to her that is, because Amity Blight had a HUGE crush on the princess of the Boiling Isles. In fact, it could be called an obsession.
She would do anything for the princess and it was Amity’s mission to get noticed by her.
She snapped out of her thoughts when she heard the sound of large gears turning outside. It turns out that the green haired girl was so caught up in her thoughts that she did not even notice when they arrived.
When the drawbridge was fully lowered the carriage began to make its way into the castle.
The carriage came to a stop in front of two massive doors that was flanked by half a dozen guards in full uniform. Amity climbed out of the carriage and walked up to the doors, which opened at the orders of one of the guards, and walked into the bowels of the castle to go and meet the princess and hopefully gain her full attention.
____________
She arrived in front of the doors that led into the throne room and stopped to take a breath and psyche herself up for what she was about to do. She was about to see the princess…. oh gosh…. It’s only now downing on her that this is it, it was now or never and she only had one chance.
She took a deep breath, calming herself. After all, it’s too late to turn back now. All she could do was hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.
“Miss Blight, the Emperor will see you now.” One of the guards standing next to the doors said before the doors were opened.
There, at the far side of the chamber, on a raised dais, sat the Emperor on his throne. Right next to him, on a smaller throne, sat the Princess. Amity calmly walked up to the dais, although she was very nervous on the inside, and dropped into a deep bow at the foot of the stairs leading up to the dais.
“Amity Blight. I see that you have responded to the summons, a wise choice.” Emperor Bellos said with a deep husky voice, tapping his nails periodically on the arm of his throne.
“Of course your majesty, it is my honor to be before you.” Amity said, trying to sound as sincere as she could be, which was not that hard considering the fact that she was practically vibrating from excitement at this point.
The Emperor stood up and she felt a heavy presence push down on her. “I have called for you at the wishes of my daughter, the Princess. It is not my place to reveal to you why you are here. All that you have to know is that if you were to harm her in any way, or reveal her identity to anyone outside of this room there will be dire consequences for both you, and your family. Do you understand me?”
“Yes my Emperor. I will do everything in my power to keep your daughter’s identity a secret and protect her with my life.”
“Hmm…. I hold you to that promise. Now then. Luz, you may have her and do as you wish. I will not keep you here any longer.” At those words the Emperor vanished in a whirlwind of flames, leaving only Amity and the now named princess- Luz, behind.
Luz stood up out of her throne and descended the dais and walked passed the mint haired girl to the doors leading out of the throne room.
She paused in the doorway and looked at Amity who was still bowed, and said in a light voice. “Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to come with me?” before turning away and walking out of the room.
Amity quickly stood up straight and rushed out of the room to follow the Princess with a smile on her face.

Authors notes:
Right, so. Umm sorry for the short chapter (again), I promise it will get longer. I just felt that this would be a good place to stop for now. I also promise that the fic will get faster after a few chapters. The first few chapters are for setting the ground works for the fic, so the pace is slow.
Chapter 3: The Mountain Part 1
Summary:
Luz and Amity go on an expedition to the knee. Will Amity finally see the face under the mask or is she destined to fail?

AMITY’S POV
“Miss Blight, may I come inside?” Came a voice from the other side of the door.
“You can enter!” Amity shouted as she sat up in bed, while rubbing the sleep from her eyes.
Kikimora opened the door and came inside. Frowning at the green haired witch she told her to get up and get ready for the day, as it is seen as impolite to keep the princess waiting.
Standing up, she went over to the dresser where she was told her clothes for today was located only to find that there were multiple pairs of warm winter clothes, a thick jacket, and a backpack with supplies waiting for her.
“Umm, miss Kikimora? I think these clothes are a little too warm for this time of the year, don’t you think?” Amity asked, facing towards the demoness only to see her smirk.
“I see the Princess failed to inform you of what’s going to happen the next few days.” Upon seeing the confusion on Amity’s face she sighed and continued. “ You are to accompany her majesty on a trip to the knee for the next few days.”
Amity was shocked. The knee? It was said to be one of the most dangerous places on the Boiling Isles, surely the demoness wasn’t serious.
She asked as much, and all she got in return was a small chuckle before she was assured that the Princess was more than capable of protecting them for the duration of the trip.
She was told to get ready and pack her things. The demoness went back outside and closed the door.
Amity began to panic again. She did this a lot recently.
She quickly went to the vanity, and began to get herself presentable for her Princess, after all, she couldn’t let Luz think that she was tardy.
She quickly washed her face and brushed her teeth. Next she quickly got dressed. She then packed the rest of her clothes in her bag along with the supplies provided.
She slung the bag over her shoulder, looked at herself in the mirror to make sure everything was as it should be and walked out of the room to find Kikimora waiting for her outside.
The demoness looked her up and down, made a soft noise of approval, and began walking away.
“Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to follow me?” The small woman said, snapping Amity back to reality to find that she had already moved down the corridor and was waiting for her.
“Sorry miss Kikimora” Amity said in embarrassment as she hurried to catch up.
_______________
They stopped in front of the big doors that led to the dining room. The guards opened it to reveal that only Princess Luz was inside.
“I will leave you two to it” Kikimora said before turning around and exiting the room, leaving Amity alone with the Princess.
Amity began to feel uncomfortably warm. ‘Okey Blight. Keep it together now. Its only breakfast with the Princess. The Princess that you’re in love with…And you’re a lone with her in a room…’
‘Oh no. Im alone with the Princess. It’s just the two of us. What do I even say to her? I can’t just say “Oh hey Princess, nice day isn’t it? I heard were going to the knee.” it would be inappropriate to speak to her like that. What do I do…’
Amity was snapped out of her thoughts when Luz cleared her thought.
“Miss Blight, would you care to join me? The foods getting cold and we have to leave soon.”
That brought her back into motion. She quickly went over to the seat on the opposite side of the table from where Luz was sitting, sat down, and scooped some food into her plate.
“Amity, you can call me Amity your majesty. That is, if you want to. But its okay if you feel that-”
“Its fine Amity, you can relax around me. I won’t bite you, you know.” Luz interrupted her with a slight chuckle.
Amity quickly finished her breakfast in silence, seeing as the Princess was already finished when she arrived.
When she was finished, Luz stood up and gestured for her to do the same and begun walking out of the dining room.
As they walked Amity noted that Luz was dressed much the same as she was yesterday. She was dressed in a white cloak that seemed to be lined with fur for protection from the cold. She also still had that mask on.
“Excuse me Princess, but is that cloak enough protection for where we are going? They say that it gets very cold on the knee.” Amity nervously inquired.
“Rest assured Amity, this cloak is waded as to be very warm in cold climates.” Luz answered without breaking stride.
They continued walking for a while until they came up on another set of doors. Amity recognised it to be the doors to the throne room.
The doors opened up and Luz walked in with Amity right behind her.
Emperor Belos sat on his throne, looking very bored, but sat up straighter when he saw Luz.
“Dad, were ready now, can you please open the portal?” Luz asked him.
Belos stood up and descended the stairs till he was standing right in front of Luz. Amity felt the urge to protect her, but quickly dismissed the thought as her father would never hurt her.
“Miss Blight. I trust you are aware of where you are going, if you have any doubts about going with my daughter on this trip, now is the time to voice them.”
“Thank you for your concern your Majesty, but I am honoured to be able to join the Princess on this trip.” Amity said, dropping into a bow.
“Very well, I will now open up a portal to the foot of the knee. Once you go through, the only way to contact me and get back, if for some reason you wish to return early, will be to tell the guard that I have stationed there to contact me. He will then proceed to do so and I will open the portal.”
Belos waved his hand and a golden portal appeared out of thin air, on the other side of the portal Amity could see snow.
Belos said goodbye to Luz and they stepped through the portal to the other side.
The portal closed behind them, stranding them and the guard at the foot of the mountain.
“Well. We should get moving, we have a long way to go to get to our destination.” Luz said before she waved goodbye to the guard and started the trek up the mountain.
Amity looked up at the mountain. It was absolutely enormous; it stretched well above the clouds and was riddled with tears and cliffs.
She started following the Princess up the mountain. She couldn’t help but get a feeling that something was going to go horribly wrong.
______________________
Amity was relieved, when towards the end of the first day of almost nonstop hiking, Luz stopped at the entrance of a shallow cave and told her that they would rest here for the night.
It was a small cave, with a narrow entrance that led to a small chamber with no exit except for the one they entered from.
Luz bade Amity to enter first to begin setting up their camp for the night while she scouted the surrounding area for dangers.
The mint haired girl made her way inside with her and the Princesses bags, put them down against the one wall and began unpacking their bedrolls.
She noted that there was only enough space for them to sleep next to each other if they wanted to make a small fire.
‘I guess there’s no other choice but to sleep like this if we want to keep warm tonight’ Amity looked dawn at their bags laid down next to each other and imagined her in her bag with Luz next to her.
She immediately flushed bright red and shook her head. ‘No. Bad Amity. Get your mind out of the gutters. A Blight should not behave like this, although… mother did tell me to try and get close to the Princess... and it plays right into my own interests- No, this is the Princess I’m thinking about here, I can’t just try to make moves on her. I need to behave myself and try to win her over the old fashioned way.’
She was so lost in her thoughts that she did not even notice the Princess entering the cave.
“Amity? Why are you just standing there. Is something wrong?” Luz asked, concern lacing her voice.
“What? Umm, sorry Princess, I guess I was just lost in thought for a few minutes.” Amity said, flushing despite herself.
She quickly moved out of the way to grant Luz access to her bag and bedroll. She went and sat down on her sleeping bag, studying the way Luz moved with efficiency. It was clear that she did things like this often.
As Luz was busy preparing to make a small fire right next to the entrance, she again thought about their sleeping arrangements and decided to broach the subject with the Princess.
“Princess, can I talk to you for a second?”
“Sure Amity, go ahead.” Luz answered without looking up from her bag that she was currently rummaging in.
Amity took a deep breath and prepared herself. “Princess, I just want to say that if you find it improper to sleep in such close proximity I can always move my bag closer to the entrance.”
Luz looked away from her bag and looked at where Amity was sitting. She let out a soft chuckle before speaking.
“Oh Amity, you don’t have to be so cautious around me all the time, I promise its fine. We need to preserve as much body heat as possible anyway.”
Amity blushed and looked down. Body heat. Now she was imagining them sharing a sleeping bag, cuddled close to each other. Holding the Princess in her arms. Gently stroking her hair… ‘NO. I need to stop thinking of these things. That’s not what she meant.’ She mentally scolded herself for the thoughts.
Amity snapped out of her thoughts as she realized the Princess was still talking. “- and that’s why it’s so important to get that flower in the next few days, it could really help the healing coven out.”
“Anyway, your food is ready to eat” Amity hadn’t even realized that Luz was roasting two rabbits over the fire. “You should eat it before it gets cold Amity.”
“Um yes, thank you Princess. If you don’t mind, I’m going to go eat outside, get a little fresh air you know?”
Luz simply nodded her head. Amity stood up and went outside to clear her head a bit, leaving the Princess to eat in private.
She quickly finished her food and looked at her surrounding a bit. It was truly beautiful this high up, they were almost at the point where the clouds met the mountain.
From there on it would be a treacherous climb for a while till they reached the smoother incline near the top.
If everything went well, they would reach the top in another two days climb.
Amity rubbed her shoulders, suddenly starting to feel the cold again now that she was out of the warm cave.
She finally went back inside to find Luz sitting in her sleeping bag, already finished eating her food.
Amity walked to her bag and got in, she turned to the Princess and told her goodnight. Luz turned to look at her and Amity noted that she still had her mask on. ‘Strange… I’ll have to ask her about it later. Although I understand why she would still keep her identity secret from me, even though it hurts…’
After they had a short conversation about tomorrow, Luz told her that they should try to get some sleep as they had a long day ahead of them tomorrow.
Amity turned around in her bad, facing away from the Princess and went to sleep. She still had a long way to go before she could call the Princess hers. But for now, she would settle with being close to her.
¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬¬_______________________
Two days of heavy climbing later, they finally reached the point at which the incline became smooth and easy to walk on.
Luz told her that they were nearing their destination and to keep an eye out for the flower, because the sooner they had it the sooner they could head back.
Amity felt relief, but she also felt regret at having the trip near completion. She truly had a great time with Luz.
They had begun to better know each other and Luz started to open up more around the mint haired girl.
She was glad to be able to confirm that the Princess was as good a person as the people said. It made Amity love her even more.
She was always so kind and caring towards her that it melted her heart. Who would have thought that the daughter of the scariest and most fierce man on the Boiling Isles was the kindest person that Amity has ever met?
They kept walking for a while, before eventually coming up on a clearing in the middle of the trees.
In the middle of the clearing was a patch of flowers, the very flowers that they sought.
Amity was about to take a step forward when she saw it. Slither Beasts.
She grabbed Luz’s shoulder and brought her to a stop. The Princess looked at her with a questioning look on her face.
Amity pointed at the Slither Beasts in the clearing. Luz looked at where she was pointing and she sucked in a breath when she saw them.
There were four of them in the clearing. Three of them were sleeping, and the fourth one was sniffing around the flowers.
She looked at Luz to see what she would do and saw her body tense.
Luz made a motion for Amity to stay where she was and walked into the clearing.
The mint haired girl wondered what she planned to do. Surely she didn’t think to take on that many of them alone, did she?
Luz raised her arm and pointed a finger at the beast nearest to her. A blood red dot appeared at the point of the girl’s finger.
At first, nothing happened. Then suddenly the beast went rigid and began to lift of the ground. Amity watched on in amazement as Luz simply flicked her finger to the side and flung the beast of off the mountain.
Before the other beasts could even move, she raised her finger again, causing another two to rise into the air. She brought her finger down, causing them to slam into the ground so hard that it shook. Neither one moved again.
The last one let out a roar and charged Luz. She pointed her finger at it and shot a beam of bright red lightning at it. When it connected to the beast, the blast was so powerful that the beast simply ceased to exist.
Amity was stunned. She did not know of a single other person that could shrug of four Slither Beasts without breaking a sweat. Even the Emperor would be hard pressed to accomplish such a feat.
She was so lost in thought that she did not even realize that the Princess already walked to the flowers, and was now kneeling next to them, seemingly studying them.
Amity made to move towards the Princess when she saw movement behind her.
One of the Slither beasts that were smashed into the ground survived.
It was slowly creeping up on the seemingly oblivious Royal. It was heavily injured and looked to be dying, but somehow it was entirely quiet as it came closer and closer to the person that she loved.
“LUZ!” Amity shouted in an attempt to get her attention. Luz looked up at her and started to say something when the beast behind her brought back its claw and swung it at the kneeling girl.
The paw connected with a wet squelching noise. It hit her so hard that the girl went flying into a nearby tree. Her body connected with a sickening crack and the tree snapped with the force at which she hit it with.
Amity let out a blood curdling scream and ran at the Slither Beast, seeing red.
When she neared the Beast, she made a spell circle. Summoning two abomination hands out of the ground which pinned the injured beast to the ground so that it could not get away.
She made another circle. This time a long spear of ice formed above her and with a yell of rage she threw it at the beast, spearing it through the head and into the ground causing it to immediately become limp.
She did not spare it a second glance, immediately rushing to where the Princess landed.
When she reached her, her eyes widened and she let out a strangled gasp.
The ground in front of her was covered in blood, and in the centre of it all laid the broken form of Luz.
Amity ran up to her and immediately fell to her knees next to her. She didn’t know what to do. The girl laid on her stomach, with her face pointing to the side.
She noticed that her mask had fallen of. She wanted to take a good look at her face but she had more important things to worry about, like saving the person dearest to her.
She immediately cast a spell to try and stop the bleeding, although regretfully she never bothered to learn a lot of healing spells.
The bleeding immediately lessened to a trickle. Next she took of the girls jacked. She immediately regretted doing so however as the girls back was in ruins.
There were four deep, long gorges running up the length of her back. It was horrific.
Amity resisted the urge to puke and focused on the task at hand. She assessed the wounds to see how much damage was done.
It was extensive. One of the gouges reached so deep that it exposed her spine on some parts, although it didn’t seem to do any damage to it. Thank the Titan for that.
The others were a bit more manageable, although it was only barely better than the first one. Two of them were still very deep and almost reached the bone as well, while the fourth one was only a centimetre or two deep.
She took of her backpack and rummaged through it for a first aid kit. She could not find one.
She cursed. ‘Now of all the times to forget something. Damn it all.’
She took out one of her shirts and started to rip it up so that she could use it as make shift bandages. She rapped it around Luz’s body and saw that it was not enough.
She cursed again as she took out more of her shirts to rap around the Princess.
After a minute or two she was satisfied that she covered all the wounds and that it would stop most of the remaining bleeding.
She quickly draped the cloak back around the girl to further cover her up and keep her warm.
She sat back for a few seconds to try and think about her next course of action.
She made the only conclusion that she could; she would have to carry her back down the mountain as quickly as possible if she wanted to save her.
Steeling herself for what she was about to do, took the remaining pieces of cloth and fashioned a make shift sling that he could use to tie Luz to her back.
She took some essential things out of her backpack and put it in her pockets, she then tied Luz to her back and started making her way back down the mountain.
She only hoped that she could make it in time to save Luz.

The Light Of My Life Chapter 4 – Flashback
I was already complete
When I met her
She just filled my life
With so much colour
To go on
Without her
Seems absurd.
AMITY’S POV
The day of the carnival.
It’s been a long and boring day for the youngest of the Blight household.
She was sitting in the last abominations class of the day, bored out of her mind, staring out of the window and completely disregarding everything happening in the lesson.
She could afford to, after all, she was the top student in her class. She studied hard her whole life to be at the top, and now that she was there; well, now she was bored out of her mind with noting to challenge her anymore.
As if to confirm her thoughts, the teacher called her name.
“Miss Blight, because you are so focused on this lecture, why don’t you answer a question for me?” The short professor asked her, clearly thinking that she wouldn’t be able to answer it because she wasn’t paying attention. “Now Miss Blight, how many main types of Abomination’s are there and what purpose does each have?”
Amity stood up and faced the Professor with a straight face. “There are three main types of Abomination’s. The first is the worker; it has a purple hue and is mainly used for everyday tasks normally done by housekeepers and workers. The second type is the grunt; it has a light pink colour and is mainly used for carrying heavy loads and for defence from attacks because of its rigidness. The third type is the warrior; it has a dark purple colour and is used for combat scenarios. It is also the hardest one to summon and control. Each main type has a lot of sub types to accommodate every task that could be thrown its way.”
After her presentation, Amity sat back down and returned to staring out of the window and leaving the professor stunned.
“Well, Miss Blight, that was spot on as always. I shouldn’t have expected anything less from the top student.” The Professor said before promptly resuming the lecture he was giving.
‘Today is the day of the Princesses birthday parade. I wonder if something interesting is going to happen today, something out of the norm…’
Amity’s thoughts were interrupted by the screaming of the bell signalling that the school day has come to an end. She quickly stood up and left the class to go and put her things in her locker. She had to be quick; otherwise she could be late for the parade and miss her chance to see the princess.
As she reached her locker, she heard a familiar voice that grated on her nerves on a regular basis. It was Bosha. As the cyclops girl neared her she called out. “Amity, you need to be quick. I’m not gonna be late because you’re slow.”
Forcing a neutral expression onto her face, Amity closed her locker and turned around to face Bosha. “I wouldn’t dream of it, im ready to go if you are.”
Bosha rolled her eyes. “Whatever Blight. Come on, let’s get going, I know of a good place we can stand to make sure the Princess sees us. After all, I can’t win her over if she cant see how stunning I look.” And with that self-assured statement, the girl turned around and she started walking towards the exit of the school with the rest of her pose, and Amity, in tow.
--------------------------------------------------
They stood in the crowd, or well, more like they stood in front of the crowd half in the street. They were waiting for the princess to pass. They knew that she was near, they could hear the crowd cheering right around the corner.
Amity started to panic. They were right in front, meaning that the princess couldn’t miss them. ‘Oh no, how do I look? Is my hair and makeup in place? I hope it didn’t smear, that would ruin my chances of impressing the princess. I need to make sure to stand in the front so that she cant miss me.’
‘I hope she doesn’t choose Bosha over me.’ Amity pulled a face at the mere idea of Bosha talking to the Princess, let alone touching her. ‘ I need to make sure she notices me first. Should I wave or shout maybe? What about blowing a kiss if she looks at me?’ At the thought of that she blushed bright red.
‘ NO. What am I thinking!? I cant do something as absurd as that, well, at least not yet anyway… maybe when we get to know each other better…. No, bad Amity. FOCUS.’ She shook her head and looked up to see if she could spot the princess.
To her dismay, the princess was passing right in front of her. She immediately waved at the princess to catch her attention. She could feel her eyes snap to her even though the princess was wearing a mask. She blushed, not knowing what to do now that the princess was looking at her. So she did the only thing she could think of, which was staring at her and smiling while looking like a tomato.
She mentally slapped herself. ‘ Really Amity, couldn’t you do anything else?’ She mentally reprimanded herself.
Snapping out of her thoughts for the second time in as much minutes, she could see that the princess was probably looking at her right, where Bosha stood.
‘Shit’
The cyclops girl noticed that the princess was looking at her and gave a cocky grin, like the princess was already hers, and blew her a kiss while winking. Clearly insinuating precisely what she wanted to do with the princess. The princess looked away after a moment and the parade continued as if nothing happened.
Bosha being Bosha, couldn’t help herself and turned to Amity. “Did you see that? She has clearly taken an interest in me, well, who wouldn’t? after all, look at me, who could resist me. By the end of the week I can guarantee you that she’s going to summon me to come to the castle. I cant wait to claim what is mine, after all, I heard that the princess is really something to behold. They say that she’s the hottest girl to ever grace the Isles. I can’t wait to see what she feels like.”
Amity began to shake from anger at that comment. She mumbles something under her breath and made to walk away.
Bosha grabbed her by her arm, stopping her in her tracks. “What was that you said to me?” She said with a clearly accusatory tone in her voice.
Amity snatched her arm out of the girls grip. “I said she’s not your property! Who do you think you are, talking like that about the princess!?” Amity yelled at the three eyed girl.
Bosha opened her mouth to retort but was cut off. “I am sick and tired of your shit Bosha! You think you can do and say what you want just because your parents are rich? Well I have news for you bitch. You are not as important or as pretty as you think you are Bosha. Nobody likes you and your perverted mannerisms. You. Are. Nothing.” Amity heaved after her outburst.
“I want nothing to do with you anymore.” Amity said and before Bosha could do or say anything in return, the youngest Blight turned around and stormed off into the crowds, wanting to get away from it all.
------------------------------
She was storming through Bonesburrow. She had no idea where she was going, only that she had to get away from the parade. Away from Bosha.
‘What was I thinking saying that to her, my parents are gonna kill me if they hear about this... It doesn’t matter, I won’t tolerate anybody talking like that about the princess. Especially not Bosha. Its worth the talk im inevitably going to have with my parents because of this.’
Amity continued to walk down the streets while deep in thought. She was so deep in thought that she didn’t even notice the fact that she was now in the marketplace. ‘I don’t care what my parents say, if I explain to them why I did what I did they would understand… right?’
‘Well, it doesn’t matter anyway. The princess saw me. Me. She actually looked at me and acknowledged me. Who knows, maybe I have a chance to catch her interest after all.’ She fought down a blush at these thoughts.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she walked into something that let out a yelp and fell over. Snapping out if her daze, she looked down to find none other than Willow sitting on the ground in front of her and rubbing her head.
‘Ugh… As if this day could get any worse. Now I have to deal with her too.’ Amity thought and couldn’t help a frown from appearing on her face.
“Oh, its just you. You need to watch where you are going dimwit.” Amity said while Willow picked herself up from the ground.
“Im sorry Amity, it won’t happen again.” Willow said, looking sheepishly at the pavement.
“It better not. But you can’t help it can you, you excuse for a witch. No wonder you have no friends if you can’t even look where you’re going.”
Willow looked away in shame because of the green haired girls words. Meanwhile Amity just went around the girl and continued walking home. She was tired and just wanted to rest, but she knew that she would have to deal with her siblings and parents when she got home.
-------------------------
Surprisingly, her parents never mentioned the incident with Bosha at the parade. Maybe she never told her parents about what happened.
A few days after the parade, everything was normal again. Well, as normal as things could get on the Boiling Isles. The only thing that changed for her was the fact that she didn’t hang out with the pink haired girl anymore.
One day when she got home from another boring day from school, as she entered the house, before she could even set a foot on the stairs to head to her room; her mother called her from the sitting room. She immediately turned around and began walking to her mother, after all, everyone in this house knew that if Odalia called you immediately went to her.
She stood in front of the door to the sitting room. She swallowed a lump in her thought. ‘Did Bosha finally tell her mother about what happened at the parade? If so I need to come up with a believable excuse…” She gathered her courage softly knocked on the door.
“Come in Amity. You’re farther and I need to have a word with you” Came the voice of Odalia Blight from behind the door.
She took a deep breath and gently pushed open the door to the sitting room. Her parents were sitting in front of the fire place. Her mother was doing knitting work and her father was reading from the newspaper. On the table in front of them sat an envelope of some kind.
She cautiously entered the room and made her way to her parents. She stood in front of them with her hands folded in front of her, waiting for her mother to start yelling at her. To her surprise, the yelling never came.
“Amity dear, please take a seat so that we can have a talk.” This came from her father who proceeded to put the newspaper on the table between them and pick up the envelope. She couldn’t help but wonder what was inside.
‘Oh well, I guess im going to find out’
She took a seat in front of her parents and waited for them to talk. She didn’t have to wait long.
“Amity. Earlier today we received a very interesting letter.” Her mother said and after a pause she continued. “Its from the Emperor himself.”
To say Amity was surprised was an understatement. After she overcame her shock she started to wonder why the Emperor would send a letter to them, and more importantly, what did it have to do with her?
‘Did Bosha’s parents contact the Emperor about what I did? But that wouldn’t make any sense at all. Maybe she lied to her parents about what really happened. That would make sense… and that would mean that im in very big trouble if the Emperor sent a letter to address the issue… I need to think about something to do and fa-‘
Her thoughts were interrupted by her mother who cleared her throat. “Amity. Listen when I speak to you.”
“Yes mother, sorry mother.”
Her mother looked at her through narrow eyes before continuing. “As I was saying, the Emperor has summoned you to go to the castle. The letter says that the princess wished to meet you. You should be honoured at such an great opportunity.”
Amity’s eyes widened. ‘The princess actually noticed me and wishes to meet me!? Oh no. no,no,no,no… what do I do?’ Amity started to panic. She got what she wished, but now she didn’t know how to proceed.
Her mother spoke up and interrupted her thoughts, stopping her from having a full-blown panic attack. “Now Amity dear, this is a great opportunity, no; this is the best opportunity you can get. Think about it. Think of the power you can obtain from integrating into the royal family. Think of how much this would better the Blight family if you were to combine our genes with those of the Emperor...
Amity nearly chocked at that last part. “Y-You want me to what?” She asked, thinking she heard wrong.
“Oh, stop with that nonsense Amity. You are at that age where it is expected to become betrothed and further our name. You are going to do everything in your power to make the princess fall for you, understand?’ Her mother said with a stern tone in her voice indicating that this was not up for debate.
“You may retire to your room for the night and think about this matter. I expect you to show results.” And with those parting words Amity stood up and went to her room.
One thing was abundantly clear though. She WOULD do everything to she could to get the princess to fall for her. Not for her mother’s sake, but for her own. After all, she couldn’t imagine a future without the princess in it. She didn’t WANT a future without the princess.

Amity POV
The embers of the fire crackled softly in front of her. It was a soothing thing really. Like majestic warm flowers blooming into the night sky. It was serene.
Amity looked at her left, Luz was on the sleeping bag next to the fire. Although she was sleeping, it was far from a peaceful one. Her face was scrunched up in pain and her breathing was laboured.
It hurt Amity to see the person she loved in such pain while she could do nothing to ease it. Its been two days since the incident took place. Two days since her Luz almost lost her life. If she had died that day… Well, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself if that happened.
She looked back at Luz’s sleeping form. She noticed that she was shivering. Amity moved closer and kneeled next to the girl, she the back of her hand against the princess’s forehead. She was freezing.
Amity frowned. That was not good she looked around her to make sure that the cave was completely sealed off. Ice blocked the entrance and let only enough air in to keep them breathing.
She sighed and moved to her pack to get the extra blanket. She took it and again moved closer to the girl. She threw to cover over Luz and went to lay next to her under it. She put her arms around the girl, careful not to touch her wounds, and pulled the blankets tight around them to preserve warmth.
Under any other circumstance she would be beyond embarrassed about sleeping like this with the princess. But being in the situation they were, Amity didn’t even entertain those thoughts at all. All that was important right now was keeping the princess alive for long enough to get help for her. Again, like last night and the night before it, she prayed to the Titan to keep Luz alive and safe. After all, she couldn’t love with herself it the most important person in her life was to die.
She hugged the girl closer and closed her eyes, trying to sleep. Tomorrow was the last day of the journey down the mountain. Tomorrow she could finally get some help for Luz.
________________________________
She woke up in a panic. Where was Luz? She wasn’t in her arms anymore. She opened her eyes to look for the girl and with a jolt sat upright. Where was she? They weren’t in the cave anymore, in fact, it looked like she was in some sort of room.
She looked around her to try and figure out where she was. She sat in the middle of a huge soft bed covered with red blankets. The room she was in looked massive. She looked around more and saw a makeshift Armory in one part of the room and a library in another part.
Her eyes grew wide in realization. She was in the princess’s room. How did she end up here? She racked her brain trying to remember what happened.
Right. They were in a cave and Luz was severely injured… Luz! Where was she? Was she alright? Amity scrambled out of bed to go and look for Luz. Halfway out she realized she did not have any clothes on. She panicked, wondering where her clothes were when she heard a sound coming from the bathroom. The youngest Blight quickly grabbed the blankets and pulled it over her chest in an attempt to cover herself.
The door opened and out came Luz. She was covered in a towel that did little to conceal her form and left nothing to the imagination. Amity blushed deeply upon seeing Luz like that.
When Luz saw that she was awake, she gave a soft and tender smile pointed at Amity that made her blush increase tenfold to the point that she was sure she looked like a tomato.
“Hey Ams, sleep well?” Luz asked in a tender tone that caused her to feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
“H-Hi Luz… Wh-why am I in your bed? And why am I n-naked?” Amity managed to stutter out, fighting the urge to hide her face at the frown Luz gave her.
“What do you mean Ams? Don’t tell me you forgot already.”
“Forgot what?” She asked carefully.
Luz gave a soft giggle that made the Green haired girls heart melt. “Oh silly, were dating. Don’t you remember?”
Amity sputtered. “We what!?” She then proceeded to hide her face in the covers.
“Oh my dear Amity.” Luz tutted and moved to sit next to the embarrassed girl. “We have been dating for almost a year now. You live here remember?” Luz then proceeded to take Amity’s hand.
All Amity could get out was a muffled “Oh…” Which cause Luz to sight and pull her closer.
“Oh Amity… Here, maybe this will help you remember” Luz then proceeded to pull the poor girl flush to her body, cupped her face with one of her hands with the other one on her waist and gave her a soft, tender kiss.
When Luz made to pull away, Amity put her arms around the girl and pulled her in closer to deepen the kiss.
“Oh, Ams… I really love you, you know that?” Luz mumbled once they finally pulled apart.
Before Amity could respond the world suddenly lit up with light and she regained consciousness.
___________________________
Amity groggily opened her eyes and looked around her. They were still in the cave. She could feel the princess in front of her and realized with a start that it was all dream. She blushed bright red thinking of the dream.
She knew right then and there that that was the future she wanted. A future next to Luz. She would strive to do everything in her power to achieve her goal of making the princess hers and hers alone.
But for now, for now she had to worry about getting off this mountain and saving Luz.
She sat up and looked at the sleeping form of Luz. She didn’t look good at all. She was deathly pale and had labored breathing.
‘Shit. I need to hurry, she’s getting worse.’ Amity quickly sat up and got out of the covers. She began gathering all the supplies around them and stuffed them in her bag. Without wasting any time she doused the remains of the fire and secured the unconscious Luz to her back.
She quickly summoned a bit of fire magic to open up an entrance in the ice wall blocking the exit and made her way out into the open. She could see the bottom of the mountain in the distance; it would only take a few hours to reach the bottom. She steeled herself and began making her way down.
______________
About an hour later they were halfway down the last slope. Amity paused upon spotting tracks in the thick snow, it looked like wolf tracks. She hoped that that was not the case as it would be difficult to fight of wolves while protecting the unconscious Luz on her back.
She shook her head and continued on her trek down the mountain, hoping that she would not encounter those wolves. But alas, her luck would not hold.
Barely three hundred meters away she heard a howl in the distance. She quickly picked up the pace, hoping that they didn’t spot them. She only went a few meters before another howl split the air, quickly joined by more and more howls.
They were coming from all around her. They were surrounded.
She stopped and looked around her, trying to spot them before they could sneak up on her, but all she could see around them were lots and lots of trees.
It wasn’t long before she spotted the first wolves; creeping up to her on all sides they were barely perceptible in their approach.
She drew a big spell circle, summoning an abomination to watch her back. She drew another one, this time summoning a big ball of fire and throwing it at the biggest group of wolves in front of her. It hit a few of them and they immediately fled although it did little to deter the others. In fact, it seems to have made them mad.
They quickly rushed her, hoping to catch her off guard. She summoned a few icicles and threw them in the direction of the wolves, impaling a few.
At this point they were basically on top of her. she could hear her abomination fighting them off at her back leaving her to deal with only those at her front. She drew another circle and summoned a long, curved sword to her hands made of off abomination goo, although it was as sharp and hard as any real sword.
Silently she thanked Lilith in her head for forcing her to endure all those sword lessons she gave her.
She took a ready stance and waited for the first of the wolves to reach her. Upon reaching her the first wolf jumped up in the air, aiming a bite at her neck. She quickly stepped to the side and swung her sword in a deadly arc, bisecting the wolf from head to tail causing two halves to land on the snow in a bloody heap.
The wolves were wearier of her after seeing how easily their friend got killed and cautiously approached her from all sides.
She sensed a wolf jumping at her and at the last possible second brought her sword up and blocked its claws from hitting Luz, who was still on her back.
She drew another circle with her free hand that summoned ice which encased a few wolves in big blocks of ice, effectively taking them out of the fight for good.
Only a few wolves remained in front of her. She could see the foam dripping out of their mouths. She could see their bloodshot eyes trained on her and watching all her moves. They carefully advanced on her as one, the snow softly crunching under their paws.
She could feel her abomination still fighting behind her, but she could feel that it was losing.
‘Shit… I can't give up now. Im so close to getting her to safety. I only need to hold out for a little longer.’
She could feel the exact second her abomination fell behind her, she could feel how the wind stilled around her; as if sensing that this was the crucial point in the battle.
The wolves closed in around her, preparing to jump at her all at once. She grit her teeth and used her sword to draw one of the biggest spell circles she had ever drawn in the air.
The moment the two ends of the circle met, the world around her caught on fire. She created a huge ring of fire around her, lighting the whole area on fire with only the spot she stood on remaining safe. It engulfed everything it touched.
She could feel the heat of the flames; hear the howls and yelps of pain all around her. She could smell the stench of burning flesh.
After a while the flames died down, revealing a landscape of blackened rock and dried-up husks of what were previously wolves around her. All the snow was melted away and the water dried up, leaving only warm dirt and rocks around her. For some reason, the patch she stood on remained intact, it was the only spot of snow left in a hundred meters around her.
She didn’t waste much time gawking at what she did and hurried on down the mountain, she would think about what she managed to do here later when she knew the princess was safe.
_______________________
It was another two hours later when she finally reached the bottom of the mountain. She sighed in relief when she saw the guard right where they left him, sitting in front of the entrance to a tent he erected and tending to a fire.
When she got closer she shouted to him. “Hey! Please help, the Princess… she’s hurt!”
He spun around, clearly not expecting them to be back already, and froze when he saw the state Amity was in. “Where’s the Princess?” He asked clearly starting to panic when he couldn’t see her.
Amity turned around to show him her and his breath caught. “Shit, shit, shit, SHIT” He put his hands to his face and turned away to quickly contact Bellos and tell him about the situation.
It wasn’t even a minute before a portal opened and Belos came through. He immediately looked at Amity and told her to hurry through the portal. She didn’t hesitate and immediately went through. When she came out the other side she found that she was in the castle’s hospital and that a bunch of medical personnel was waiting for them.
They immediately rushed over and took Luz off her back and put her on her side on a hospital bed. They looked at the wounds and began to cut off the clothes and bandages that covered her back. Upon seeing the wounds one of the doctors let out a hiss.
He turned to her and spoke. “You were just in time getting her here. Any longer and she would have been as good as dead. As it is now, there is still a chance of her dying from the blood loss.”
Amity paled at hearing that there was still a chance of Luz dying. She was beginning to feel tears prickling behind her eyes when Belos spoke up behind her. “Miss Blight. Come, we need to wait outside and give them space to work.”
Amity numbly followed him out and went to sit on a chair he offered her. He sat on a chair opposite her in the hall and began to speak to her. “Miss Blight, I want to thank you for bringing my daughter back to me. I never should have let her go in the first place.”
Amity looked up at him, wiped away some of the tears that began to fall, and said. “My Emperor, it's all my fault. I didn’t pay enough attention and couldn’t warn your daughter fast enough. I am so very, very sorry.” She looked down, expecting him to yell because of this.
Instead to her surprise, he merely sighed. “It’s not your fault Miss Blight. Accidents happen, all that matters is that you kept your head on straight and saved her. You did everything you could and I am very thankful to you for that. Do not worry anymore; they are going to save her. After all, they are the best in the healing coven for a reason.”
He stood up and began walking down the hallway in the direction of the throne room. He paused and looked back at her. “Don’t you worry anymore; everything’s going to be fine. Go back to your room and rest. I will give you an update in the morning on her condition.” And with those final words, he turned around and left.
Amity sat still for a while after that, contemplating the events of these last few days. After a while, she stood up and looked at the doors that were separating her from Luz. She sighed and began making her way back to her room for the night.
Belos was right. There was nothing she could do anymore except wait. Wait and believe that everything was going to be alright.
These were the thoughts that accompanied her for the rest of the evening and late into the night before she fell into a fitful slumber.

Amity’s POV
Amity felt like her whole world was ending. Everything was in slow motion the moment that Luz went flying. She watched on in horror as she flew through the air only to hit a tree.
With a sickening crack the tree broke in two and fell on the unconscious form of Luz. Amity let out a blood curling scream of terror as she began to run in the direction of the fallen tree.
She didn’t make it two steps when the Slither Beast that attacked Luz blocked her, she let out a growl of frustration and readied herself for the confrontation. The beast let out a roar and charged her, seeing her as another easy target. She was not about to let that happen.
She drew a bog spell circle in front of her that summoned the biggest abomination that she has ever conjured. She let out smirk and commanded it to keep the monster down.
The abomination charged the monster who was not deterred at all. Upon reaching it, the abomination swung its first in a low arc, catching the beast on its jaw and slinging it a few feet back.
It quickly righted itself and approached again, this time in a more cautious manner having learned from what just transpired.
When it got close to the abomination it went in low in an attempt to catch it off-guard. The abomination readied itself accordingly, wanting to catch the beast, but at the last moment possible the beast changed course and jumped. The momentum of the abomination was too much to stop and reposition.
The beast connected with the abomination in a squelch and ripped its head clean off. Surprised by the change in tides, Amity fumbled and could not react in time to draw a circle to defend herself. Just before the beast reached her, she jumped to the side, luckily escaping the deadly swipe that would have surely killed her on the spot.
Landing on the hard ground, she quickly spun around and readied a spell circle. Upon completion, vines burst out of the ground and entangled the beast that was just starting another charge at her.
The beast roared and attempted to free itself. As fast as it could destroy the vines, new ones formed to take their place; effectively keeping it contained.
Amity quickly stood up and wasted no time drawing another spell circle, this time making a huge icicle that was poised to strike the beast.
With nothing but pure hatred in her eyes, she flung the icicle at it with all her might, impaling it through its open maw and into its body.
It immediately went limp in the vines.
Amity let out a sigh of relief and rushed pasted it to go and search for Luz. She quickly spotted the fallen tree and rushed towards it.
Upon arriving, her breath caught in her throat. Around the fallen tree was a huge pool of blood, and under the trunk, she could see the small form of Luz sticking out. She was lying completely still.
Amity quickly summoned more vines to lift the log of off Luz and knelt by her side.
The girl was lying on her back, completely motionless and not breathing. She started panicking.
She gently shook the girl, softly saying her name… no response.
She shook harder, her movements becoming frantic. She called out her name, begging her to answer. She got no response.
She began crying, calling out to the girl in the hopes that she would answer. “Luz… please answer me. Luz!”
By now she was frantic, her whole body shaking from the force of her sobs. She couldn’t believe it.
The person she loved and adored most, was dead in front of her.
Everything around her froze. This was not happening, it COULDN’T be happening. She was supposed to have saved her. In every story she has heard, in every book she has read; the knight always saves the princess. That’s just how it works.
The lifeless body of Luz proved it to be wrong.
She let out a blood-curdling scream of anger and sadness before everything went dark around her.
_________________________________________
She woke with a start, hand reaching into the air and Luz’s name on the tip of her tongue. She scrambled into an upright position and franticly looked around her.
For a moment she didn’t know where she was before it all came back to her. The trip, the Slither beasts, Luz getting hurt and carrying her off the mountain.
That’s right, she got them both to safety, it’s all going to be alright now. She had faith in the healers of the healing coven, after all, they were the best there is, even though it’s been a whole day without her hearing anything about her condition.
She got up and got dressed for the day. Since she didn’t have her clothes on hand, she put on her school clothes, which someone washed while they were gone. After that she went to the dining hall to get something to eat, after all, she had a long day of waiting ahead of her.
After she ate her fill, she went back to the medical wing. She arrived outside the doors leading to Luz and knocked, hoping to be let in.
A minute later after no reply, she knocked again, this time louder. Before she could knock a third time, the door opened.
There was no one in front of her; she looked around with confusion written all over her face when she heard someone clearing their throat directly in front of her.
“If you wish to see the Princess, I regret to inform you that you can’t see her right now.” A voice said from seemingly at her feet.
She looked down and saw Kikimora, the right hand of the Emperor standing in front of her with an annoyed look on her face.
“Miss Kikimora! I’m so very sorry, I didn’t see you there.”
“Hmm. It’s quite alright. Now, if you have no further inquiries I’m going to have to ask you to leave as you have school to attend in approximately… One hour from now, otherwise you are going to miss another day of school.” And with those words, the demoness closed the door in her face.
She blinked a few times. ‘Okay… that just happened… Shit! School. I need to get to school before I’m late!’
She quickly turned around and began to head to the entrance of the castle with a brisk pace.
When she reached the main entrance she was stopped by a stern voice calling her name.
She turned around and came face to face with the Emperor.
“Ah, Miss Blight, I’m glad that I caught you in time.”
“My Emperor, I am at your service.” Amity hastily said and started to bow.
Belos merely chuckled and said. “There’s no need for that Miss Blight. I only wanted to tell you that you are to fetch all your clothes and stuff that you might need for a prolonged stay here after school, a chariot will come and pick you up at the Blight manor. Go now, before you are late.”
“Yes sir.” Amity said, hiding her surprise and started a jog in the direction of Hexide.
_________________________________________
Upon reaching Hexide she stopped in front of the entrance and let out a sigh. She missed school yesterday so people are probably going to ask about where she was.
She quietly steeled herself and entered the building, ready for anything that might come her way.
As she stood by her locker busy getting all the books she would need till lunch, she failed to notice Bosha calling her name. She only noticed when she felt someone tap her on her shoulder.
“Sup Mittens. I couldn’t help but notice that you were absent yesterday, wanna tell me why?” The triclops asked her with a clearly fake tone of worry in her voice.
“What do you want Bosha.” Amity asked, cutting to the chase. She just hoped that Bosha wouldn’t make a big deal out of this.
“What do I want? Oh Amity, can’t I be worried for my friends. Do there really have to be a reason?”
Amity began walking away from the girl, who has now begun irritating her. She looked back over her shoulder and said. “Cut the crap Bosha, we sure as hell are not friends.”
She made to walk away and ignore the girl till she said something that made her freeze in her tracks. Slowly, she turned around and asked softly. “What did you just say?”
Bosha smirked, knowing she has just won this little game of theirs. “Didn’t you hear? Rumour has it that the Princess has had an incident and is very hurt at the moment. I thought someone as clearly obsessed with her as you would have heard by now.”
Amity walked till she was almost in the pink-haired girl's face. “Where did you hear this?” She asked, panic beginning to creep into her voice, although not for the reasons Bosha thought it was.
Bosha tutted. “Oh Amity, have you forgotten? My dad is the head of the potions track, so of course he would know about things such as that.”
‘Shit. I wonder what else he told her. I hope he didn’t tell her about my involvement… If he did she would have said something by now, so I can rule that out then. I need to tell lord Belos about this as soon as I can, I’m sure he doesn’t know about it.’
“Amity? I’m talking with you. Have you forgotten your manners as well?”
She decided that she wouldn’t put up with the girls' games today and just turned around and began to walk away again only to have a hand grab her arm.
“Bosha, if you don’t let go right now you’re going to lose that hand.” Amity warned her, her hands clenching into firsts.
“Sheesh, alright then. Have fun on your own loser.” And with those final words, Bosha left.
She drew in a deep breath to calm her and then continued on to class.
Upon arriving in class the teacher stopped her and asked her where she had been the previous day to which she lied and told him that it was family matters.
He didn’t seem completely convinced, but let it go and started class.
He didn’t call on her at all during class, probably seeing that she wasn’t in such a great mood, and decided to leave her be. She couldn’t complain as it suited her just fine after all.
School was a drag and didn’t seem like it would ever end. It was as Bosha said, rumours spread like wildfire around the school. By the end of the day, everyone knew that there was an accident involving the princess. Some people even said that the princess has died. The latter were the ones that grated on her nerves the most.
When school finally came out, she hurriedly packed all her stuff and put it in her locker, and then she hurried home. After all, the faster she packed her things, the faster she could get out of that forsaken home and get to Luz.
When she finally reached her home she hurried inside and made to go to her room to get her things, hoping that her parents were not home at the moment. But alas, her luck didn’t hold.
“Amity Blight! We require your presence at once; we have a lot to talk about.”
She closed her eyes and sighed. This wasn’t good. Her mother knew about what happened, well, at least the rumors. It was time to face this conversation head-on.
“Coming mother.”
She made her way to the sitting room and knocked on the door. “Come in, your father and I wish to speak with you.”
She silently went inside and sat down in the chair opposite her parents, as usual. Even though she knew her parents didn’t know the full story, heck, she didn’t even know if this was about the princess, she couldn’t help but worry. When her parents wanted to talk to her in private it could only mean one of two things. one, that her parents were mad at her and two, that she needed to do something for them that she probably wouldn’t like.
She sat patiently as her mother drank the last of her tea and her father finished reading his newspaper. It felt like they made her wait forever before her mother began to speak.
“I’m sure you know what this is about Amity, and I have to say I’m disappointed.”
“I’m not sure I follow mother.”
Her mother made a tutting sound that immediately put her on edge. “I’m talking about the princess. About how YOU brought shame on the Blight name by allowing her to get hurt. Now, tell me how this happened so that I can think of a way to undo the shame you brought upon us.”
Even though she knew it wasn’t her fault, she still felt ashamed. She looked down at her lap and folded her hands together. She hated that she didn’t have the power to be there for Luz in her time of need. She hated that she could not do more to protect her, sure, she saved her by getting her to safety, but she felt like she could have done more. Should have done more.
She took a shaky breath and said in a barely audible voice. “I-I can’t mother.” She immediately regretted having said that when her mother’s eyes narrowed in anger.
“You can’t or you won’t?” She asked, her tone clearly insinuating that she should tell her to avoid punishment.
Amity steeled herself and looked her mother in the eyes. “I swore an oath to the Emperor never to tell anybody anything regarding the Princess.”
Technically that was the truth, although she was lying in a way. She swore to never tell anybody her identity or any information that could harm her, but she wasn’t going to tell her mother that as it would only cause her to pry for information to further her own gains.
Her mother hummed. “… I see. Well, why are you here? I thought you were supposed to be at the castle, or did you shame us so much that you were kicked out?”
“No mother, the Emperor sent me to come and collect my things for I am to stay at the castle indefinitely.” Amity replied in a soft but firm voice.
“Very well then, you may go.”
Amity stood up and swiftly walked to the door, wanting to get out of here as soon as possible. She paused halfway out of the door when her mother spoke to her.
“Oh and Amity. Remember what I said earlier, if you do not win the Princess over I Will send Emira to do it in your stead. Do you understand me?”
“Yes, mother.” And with those words, she walked out and closed the doors behind her.
________________________
When Amity arrived at the castle and saw Kikimora pacing up and down in front of the entrance of the castle she began to worry.
‘Why would she be outside waiting for me? Did I do something; did the news reach Belos that people know about the Princess? Oh no, what if he thinks it was me that spread those rumours. No, it can’t be, I’m bound by an oath and he knows that. It has to be something else then.’ At that moment a cold feeling entered her and sat in her gut. ‘The Princess. This has to be about her. Has her condition worsened? Heaven forbid that she passed away… no, no it cou-‘
“Miss Blight! Can you hear me?” She was snapped out of her daze by the short demoness standing in front of her.
“Um, yes, sorry… Could you please repeat that?” She asked in a sheepish voice.
“Ugh, teenagers…” The demoness shook her head. “I said that Princess Luz’s condition has been stabilized and she has now been moved to her room, she wishes to speak to you right away. Please head there now; someone will take your bags to your room.”
Amity was delighted; her Luz was out of danger! “Yes ma’am, thank you so much.”
Amity rushed inside and to Luz’s room without sparing a glance back at Kikimora.
When she neared the princess’s room, she slowed down to compose herself. She quickly made sure her hair was as it should be and her clothes were dust free. After all, she wouldn’t dream of being in front of Luz without looking her best.
She gently knocked and heard a soft muffled “Come in.” She quickly opened the door, went in, and softly closed it behind her so as to not be needlessly loud.
She quickly walked to Luz’s bed and sat down on the chair next to it.
Luz looked better than she did a few days ago, but considering the state, she was in that’s not saying much. She was deathly pale and had dark bags under her eyes. Her whole body was covered with bandages, at least the parts she could see.
She couldn’t help but still worry for the girl because although she would never say it out loud, she looked awful. She again felt ashamed because of what happened and Luz could clearly see it as she spoke up to reassure her.
“Oh, Amity…” She began in a soft and pained voice. “It’s not your fault that this happened to me. I was the one that got overconfident in my abilities.”
“But Princess, if I reacted sooner. If I warned you sooner, this wouldn’t have happened in the first place. It’s my fault, I was incompetent and I deserve to be punished!”
Luz looked her dead in the eyes and said in as stern a tone as she could muster. “I was not your fault. You are the reason that I am still alive right now, if it wasn’t for you, I would be dead.”
She gently took Amity’s hand in her own and smiled at her. “I’ll tell you what. Since you are so adamant about being punished, my punishment for is to serve me, and take care of me till I tell you to stop, okay?”
Amity sputtered, trying to give a reply. “B-but Princ-ces! You c-can’t-“
She was cut off by Luz holding up her hand and firmly looking her in the eyes. “I will allow no objections, Miss Blight.”
Amity was baffled, how could she forgive her so easily about what happened, saying it wasn’t her fault at all? She didn’t understand. But… looking at the princess, whose eyes were filled with nothing but kindness and empathy, she found it in herself to believe that maybe. Maybe it wasn’t so far-fetched to believe that one day, they could be more than just friends.
“Yes, Princess… Anything for you.”

LUZ’S POV
She slipped in and out of darkness constantly, only being awake for periods long enough to know that time passed.
The first while was the worst. Constant, mind-breaking pain being her only friend. She sometimes saw flashes of her surroundings, sometimes the stark white of snow being illuminated under the sun.
Other times the inside of caves, next to the soft crackling of a small fire. One thing was certain though.
There was always the presence of a person next to her, the person was blurred at the edges, and she could not make out any features except for a wild mane of mint green hair.
Each time she saw that hair she felt comforted. She didn’t know why, the person felt familiar somehow, she knew it was someone important to her, but she just couldn’t put her finger on who it was exactly.
In this place, everything was muddled and blurred, even her memories. She didn’t know who she was or where she was, she couldn’t remember.
She sometimes had flashes of something, a girl yelling out a name, although she couldn’t make out the name. She remembered an impact, something hitting her with great force.
She remembered being flung through the air, hitting something hard, and coming to a stop. She remembered pain raking her body, mainly her back, and most of all she remembered that face hovering over her, looking worried even though she couldn’t make out the features.
Eventually, though, the scenery changed, and the pain dulled. She knew that she was in a different place, she felt safe, but at the same time she felt lonely, that constant presence was gone. Replaced by emptiness, by longing.
She drifted in the inky, black expanse of nothingness for what felt like an eternity. Time was muddled there, although she didn’t know where there was.
After what felt like forever, she saw a white light in the distance; it was as small as the point of a pin.
She felt drawn towards the light; somehow she knew that it was her way out of this place. She willed herself to move towards it, she started moving but it felt like she was wading through thick sludge, hindering her every move.
Steeling herself, she kept wading, it was a slow and tedious process, but she was making way.
After what felt like hours, the light was starting to draw near, she was almost there. Almost touch it…
Suddenly, light enveloped her and she became aware.
_____________________________________________________
Luz sat up with a jolt and immediately regretted it as pain speared through her whole body, primarily centered in her back.
Looking around her, she could see that she was in her room. Memories rushed back to her. The mountain, collecting the flowers when the slither beasts attacked. Fighting, thinking that she won, and turning around to face Amity.
Amity shouting at her, warning her. Feeling a sharp pain in her back before hitting something and everything going black.
Amity rushing to get her off the mountain and caring for her…. Oh god, where’s Amity? Is she alright?
She looked around her in a panic, searching for any sign of the girl but turning up with an empty room.
Panicked, she tried to stand up but immediately fell to the floor with a loud crash, crying out in pain when her back hit the floor. She heard a commotion at the door before it slammed open, revealing a small red demoness rushing towards her in a panic.
“Luz! You shouldn’t be trying to sit upright in your condition, much less STAND.” She clicked her tongue at Luz as she neared, shaking her head the whole time.
She gently took Luz by the arms and helped her back onto the bed.
“How do you feel? You took a very bad blow, Luz. You are lucky to be alive at the moment, if it wasn’t for the quick thinking of a certain Blight you wouldn’t have made it through the first night.”
Luz perked up at the mention of Amity and immediately asked Kikimora about the girl’s whereabouts. “I have to thank her Kiki, she saved my life. She is alright isn’t she?”
Kikimora chuckled good-heartedly at the question, much to her dismay. “Yes Princess, she’s perfectly fine. She’s at school at the moment, I practically had to force her to go, she didn’t want to leave your side at all actually…”
Luz smiled and relaxed into the bed upon hearing that.
They sat in silence for a few minutes before Kikimora stood up. “Although I regret it, I have to leave now as I have other duties to attend to. I'll stop by later alright?”
Luz didn’t respond verbally and merely gave a nod of acknowledgment to indicate that she heard her at all. Sparing a last glance at Luz, the demoness turned and left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
___________________________________________
Luz sat alone for hours with only the occasional servant to interact with. She mostly sat in silence, staring at the walls or out the window. She even tried reading, but she quickly got bored with the books she had on hand. Not even The Good Witch Azura could entertain her for long.
She longed to have an actual conversation with someone and to do something, but alas, Amity was still at school meaning she was all alone.
True to her word, Kikimora stopped by every now and then to check if she was alright and to bring her food.
Late into the evening, there was still no sign of Amity, and that had her very worried. She sat in silence, staring out the window while the sun was busy setting when a knock sounded at her door.
Expecting it to be Amity, she excitedly turned towards the door, but before she could call out the girl's name, the door opened revealing her father. She was admittedly disappointed that it wasn’t the girl who has been plaguing her mind for the last couple of hours, but still glad to be seeing her dad in the doorway.
After a few moments of silence, Belos cleared his throat and hesitantly started. “Luz… May I enter or are you busy?”
Luz couldn’t help but smile at her dad’s awkwardness and told him to come in. He gently closed the door and went to sit at the foot of her bed.
He looked pensive, as if he wasn’t sure about what to say, and knowing him, that was probably the case.
After a few moments he let out a deep sigh and removed his mask, gently placing it down next to him before speaking.
“How are you feeling my dearest daughter? You have been through a lot lately and I wanted to make sure you are okay physically as well as mentally. So… is there anything that you want to get off of your chest and talk about?”
She sat in thought for a while, contemplating what she wanted to share and what she wanted to keep secret. Ultimately she settled on talking about the one thing that was bothering her the most at the moment.
“Dad… I’m scared that what happened will happen again. I mean, it clearly doesn’t matter how strong I am, just look at what happened on the mountain!”
She took a few deep breaths to calm herself as her dad sat quietly, giving her time to gather her words. After a few seconds of deep thought Luz sat upright in her bed with a sharp hiss of pain.
She looked at her dad with worry in her eyes. And said in a soft voice, cracking at places. “W-what happens if one day, the same thing happens to me that happened to mom? Even though I have all this power, I’m still weak when it counts. I hesitate when it matters and I leave myself open to attacks. I-I’m scared dad… what if someone else gets hurt because I’m not brave enough to act when it matters? W-what if –“
She was cut off when Belos suddenly pulled her close to him and hugged her tight, careful of her wounds, and told her that everything would be alright. That no one would hurt her because as long as he was there he would keep her safe.
“Even after im gone Luz, there will always be people that wants to keep you safe with everything that they have. I know it’s scary Luz, but I promise you this, no one will ever hurt a hair on your head, is that understood?”
Breathing shakily, Luz nodded and looked into her father’s eyes, telling him that she loved him with all her heart.
They talked for a while, discussing mundane, everyday things. After a while her father gave a deep sigh and stood up. He picked up his mask, inspected it for a few seconds, then replacing it on his face once more.
He began walking away, intending to leave but stopped right when he reached the door.
“Luz… you know I love you with all my heart and soul. That’s why I cant in good conscience leave you like this, unprotected I mean.”
Luz began to sit up, wanting to protest but her father held up his hand, motioning for her to be quiet while he speaks.
“I know what you’re going to say, that’s why I decided that you must have one guard of your choosing by your side at all times. And if she agrees, she will protect you with her whole existence for the rest of your life.”
Luz smiled at her dad, very thankful for giving her a choice on the matter, and for implying that she could ask Amity.
“I love you daddy… thank you very much.”
She gave a lost smile and wave at her dad when he finally walked out of the room, once again leaving her to her own devices.
___________________________________________
It felt like she was waiting forever when she finally heard soft, pensive footsteps echoing in the hall. She smiled brightly, knowing it was finally Amity that arrived.
She sat up just as a knock came from the door, a soft and nervous voice asking if she could come in.
She smiled brightly when the mint haired girl came into the room, looking relieved when she saw Luz sitting on the bed.
“Hey Luz…”

AMITY’s Pov
It’s been days since Luz woke up and her recovery has been swift thanks to all the healers her father assigned to her. The days went by swiftly for a certain mint haired witch. Amity has been busy helping Luz with everything that she could, everything from tucking her in till helping her get around her room.
Luz still struggled to walk a bit, because of the intensive damage done to her back. But the head of the Healing Coven quickly assured them that everything would be just fine, and Luz would be walking like normal before long.
Even though she has been assured that everything would be fine, she still worried about Luz constantly. She sees the faces Luz makes when she thinks nobody is looking at her. She can sometimes see the nightmares that Luz has when she comes to wake her up in the mornings. She knows that deep down Luz is suffering.
And yet…
Sometimes in the middle of the night, when she lies in her room she feels glad. She feels glad about the state that Luz is in, only some parts mind you. But, glad none the less. Not about the fact that Luz is suffering, it kills her to see her Luz in that state. But she is glad that Luz has to rely on her, glad that she serves a greater purpose than just being her guard.
And Amity feels ashamed about it; she knows that it is wrong of her to think like that. She just likes the feeling of being useful towards Luz. She likes the feeling of being depended on.
She shook herself out of her thoughts when she reached Luz’s door, hands holding a tray with food. She couldn’t knock because her hands were full, so she resorted to talking a little louder than normal.
“Luz? Are you decent?”
She could barely hear the muffled reply of “Come in.” through the thick wood of the door.
Opening it she went directly to Luz’s bed, setting the tray on a stand nearby. Amity looked at Luz and saw the tired look on her face. Luz noticed her staring and immediately smiled at Amity, trying to hide it, but it was too late as she already saw.
Amity sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, not touching, but as close as possible to the princess. “Luz… What’s wrong?”
Luz tried to act as if nothing was wrong and said. “What do you mean Amity? Why would something be wrong? Hehe…”
Amity just sighs again and stands up to get the tray of food for Luz. After making sure she had enough, Amity sat on a chair next to the bed and ate her own lunch.
They sat and ate in silence for a while, with Amity observing every action made by Luz; looking for any sign of her not being okay. After a few comfortable minutes of not talking, Amity saw Luz stiffen up out of the corner of her eye. Looking up from her meal, she looked at the girl with a quizzical look on her face.
“Is there something wrong Luz?”
Luz blushed and started to stutter. “A-amity… I n-need to go to the b-bathroom… C-can you help me?...”
Amity sighed internally. She has been helping the girl for a few days now. Sure, the first few times was just as embarrassing for her, but she quickly got over it. She could understand why Luz would be so embarrassed about it though. After all, Luz was someone used to privacy all the time, something like this is a new experience for her.
She smiled at Luz sheepishly, trying to convey the fact that she understood how the girl felt. She took Luz’s plate, as well as her own and set them aside. Hooking her arms around the frame of Luz, careful not to touch anywhere near her wounds, she gently lifted her up and helped her to walk to the bathroom.
Reaching the door she reached for the doorknob before Luz interrupted her.
“N-no. I can go further on my own Amity; you don’t have to help me.”
Amity looked at her with worry written all over her face. “Are you sure Luz? I don’t want you fall and get hurt.”
Luz pushed herself out of Amity’s arms and grunted with the effort to stand. “I… can do it on my own…”
Amity just smiled and let her walk on her own. “I’ll be just here if you need me Luz.”
When Luz came out, Amity again put her arms around the girl and began guiding her back to her bed only for Luz to shake her head and gesture towards the balcony. Seeing her intentions Amity guided her outside. She helped Luz to get to the rail and then let go of her and moved a few feet away, watching as she gazed over Bonesburrow in the distance.
Luz let out a long sigh, causing Amity to take a few tentative steps closer and place her hand on the girls shoulder to try and comfort her. After a few seconds of silence, Amity opened her mouth to speak but Luz beat her to it.
“You know Amity… Sometimes I wish that I was normal. I wish that I could experience all the everyday things people do, like going to school and having friends.” She turned her head to look at Amity. “To only have to worry about small things, to be able to enjoy myself like a normal girl…”
Amity felt her heart break at the vulnerable look in Luz’s eyes. She moved closer and hugged the girl tightly to herself, careful not to aggravate her wounds and convinced about what she now had to do. “Luz… I promise to you that I’ll do everything in my power to make your wish a reality.”
She felt the princess slump against her and letting out a happy sigh of relief. “Thank you Amity… You are the best friend I could have asked for.”
Even though Amity felt happy at Luz’s words, she also felt a deep sadness. ‘Is this all I’m destined to be? Merely a friend?’ Amity steeled herself, shaking off these depressive thoughts. ‘No, I won’t just stay her friend… I’ll make sure she sees me as more. I won’t just be her best friend; I’ll be the best girlfriend she could ever have.’
They stayed hugging for a while, Amity only reluctantly releasing Luz when she saw how late it was getting. “Come on Princess… Let’s get you to bed.”
________________________________
Amity stood nervously in front of the doors to the throne room. She kept repeating in her head what she wants to say and how she is going to say it. She lifted up her hands to the door, ready to knock, when the doors suddenly swigs open, revealing Belos sitting on the throne and looking at her.
“Are you going to stand there all day or are you going to come inside?” Belos asks with a deep voice.
Amity immediately forgot everything that she wanted to say and rushed into the room, the doors closing behind her. She bows in front of Belos and waits for him to speak.
“I presume that you are here to talk about the Princess?”
Amity was petrified with fright. ‘Al right Blight, play it cool. Keep calm and focus. I am doing this for Luz and I’ll be damned if I don’t succeed.’
Amity straightened up and looked Belos square in the eyes. “I-I’m here to talk about the Princess yes.”
Amity paused and Belos motioned for her to continue.
“It has recently c-come to my attention that the Princess wishes to attend Hexide sch-“
“No”
“ool… Excuse me? I-Im sorry Emperor, but I do not understand? You haven’t even given me a chance to explain yet.”
Belos stood up from his throne and descended the stairs to stand at the same level as Amity. He looked her in the eyes and she could feel something akin to anger in his stare… anger and fear.
“She will not go to anywhere near that place.”
“May I ask why…” Amity asked with nervousness in her voice.
“Because. It is not safe for her to be in public. What if someone were to find out who she is? It would jeopardise her safety! I won’t allow it!”
“B-But that’s not goi-“
“And what of her injuries. Have you forgotten what happened? Do you need to be reminded that she almost di-!”
Amity felt her anger boil over and yelled over Belos, cutting him of. “I HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN!”
He took a step back in surprise at her outburst. Before he could attempt to speak again, Amity continued; tears in her eyes.
“I remember what happened… I had to carry her off of that mountain! I had to watch her while the life drained out of her body with each passing hour! Do you really think I would forget something like that so easily?!”
Amity shook her head, a look of determination on her face as she continued.
“Can you not see that she is not happy? Can you not see that she wants to be normal, wants to be treated as a person? She wants to experience things that other people her age does. She wants to go to school, wants to make friends! Are you really going to keep that from her?”
Belos stood up straighter. “I do not appreciate you talking to me like that… sigh… but you make a point.”
He sighed again before saying. “If you can promise me to be with Luz at all times of the day, keep her safe and make sure that nobody finds out about who she really is, then I’ll let her attend Hexide.”
Amity looked at Belos in shock. ‘Did I really just do that? Did I really just convince him to allow her to attend school?’
“But”
Amity looked at him full of nervousness, scared for what he might say next.
“I’ll only allow it if you swear to always be by Luz’s side as long as she deems it fit.”
Amity visibly perked up after hearing that statement and said, without hesitation. “I swear that as long as Luz wants me I’ll do everything in my power to protect her and to always be by her side, no matter what.”
“Then it is settled.”

LUZ’s POV
It’s been a few weeks since Amity told Luz that she could attend school. She was finally healed enough to be able to attend for the first time today. That’s why when Kikimora woke her up, she couldn’t get ready fast enough. She got dressed in the completely white school uniform signalling that she has yet to be placed in any tracks.
After admiring her uniform in the mirror and making sure that she looked presentable; she quickly made her way to the main dining room as fast as she could, although that was not very fast as she had to be careful of the bigger and still (relatively) tender wounds on her back.
When arriving before the doors Luz took a deep breath, preparing her for the day to come and putting on a smile. With not entirely fake enthusiasm she pushed open the door and said in a bright and cheerful tone. “Good morning father”
She practically skipped to her chair next to Belos and sat down without really observing her surroundings. That is why she was rather startled to hear the voice of a certain mint haired witch greet her from the chair opposite hers.
“Good morning Princess, did you sleep well?”
Luz took a moment to find her voice. “A-amity, I didn’t even see you there! I slept well thank you for asking. What about you? Did you sleep well?”
Belos took that moment to interrupt the two witches’ conversation, drawing Luz’s attention away from the other girl, causing her to miss the faint blush forming on Amity’s face at the question.
“Daughter, as much as I enjoy seeing you getting along with other people, you are going to have to continue that conversation later. I have a few things I would like to discuss with you before you go.”
Luz immediately gave her full attention to Belos, much to Amity’s distain. “Yes father, what is it that you would like to discuss with me?”
“It’s less of a discussion and more of a set of rules that you must follow.” Belos paused for a second to see his daughters’ reaction. Seeing her just stare at him expectantly he continued.
“Firstly, nobody is allowed to know who you really are. The only people that are allowed to know your identity, are either already informed, or will be soon. If your identity were to somehow get out you shall be immediately removed from Hexide, never to set foot there ever again. Do you understand?”
Luz, keeping her expression completely devoid of emotion, nodded her head showing that she understood.
Belos continued with a few other rules before arriving at the last one. “And lastly. You are not to go anywhere off of the school grounds without Amity accompanying you at all times. Am I understood?”
Luz nodded her head and said, “Yes father, I understand.” and went back to eating her food, although with a more subdued tone and expression than before.
The meal continued for what felt to Luz like an hour, but was in actuality only a few minutes before Kikimora came in and announced that it was time for them to go if they wanted to be there in time for school to start.
Immediately Luz perked up and finished the last bites of her meal before standing up and excusing herself and Amity from the room. They followed Kikimora to the entrance of the castle and saw that their stuff was already waiting for them, well, Amity’s stuff at least.
Luz noticed the lack of school supplies of her own and opened her mouth to ask the short demoness about it, but the woman in question beat her to it.
“It’s your first day Princess. You won’t be going to class today, so there is no need for you to bring any school supplies”
Luz looked a little put out by that statement but perked up again when she thought of where they were headed. Luz summoned her palismen, (A small red dragon sitting on top of a pure white staff with a long tail wrapped around the top keeping it in place.) and mounted it, hovering a few centimetres above the ground.
Amity looked on in awe at the palismen, clearly envious, before asking Kikimora how she would get to school as she doesn’t have her own palismen yet.
The small demoness merely summoned her own staff and motioned for the Blight to climb on behind her. Amity looked a little sad at not being able to ride with Luz, which she interpreted as Amity being sad that she doesn’t have her own palismen yet.
After making sure that they had everything they needed, Kikimora led the way to the school.

After a while flying, with Luz looking more impatient with every minute that passed; the school finally came into view.
Luz couldn’t help but feel exited. This would after all be her first day of finally being around other people her age, with nobody treating her differently because of her status. She was not naïve enough to think that she would just magically get along with everyone attending. She doesn’t even know what people her age talks about!
‘Oh no… what if someone asks me where I live? What would I even say to them? It’s not like I can just casually say “Oh, you know that huge castle with all the guards and big scary emperor, yeah, I live there. Who am I? Oh, nobody important, just the princess of the all the Isles.”’
Luz was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn’t even realise that they arrived. She only snapped out of her thoughts when her feet touched the ground. Quickly dismounting and banishing her palismen, she looked up at the school in awe. She couldn’t believe it.
Hexide… the most famous school on the entire Isles. Luz read about this place a lot in the past while dreaming of being able to attend. But being here now, seeing it in person…. It’s just…
“Wow…”
She heard a chuckle next to her, turning her head she saw Amity standing there with a look of mirth and a hint of pride in her eyes. “Did you know that Hexide was built on the ruins of a rival school it conquered?”
Luz let out a gasp. “Really!? That’s so cool…”
Luz looked around more; eager to drink in all the sights that Hexide has to offer when she noticed that they seemed to be the only ones outside. “Umm… Amity, Where is everyone?”
Amity looked at the time on her scroll and her eyes widened. She opened her mouth to say that they were very late, but before she could speak Kikimora cut in.
“We are purposefully late so that there is nobody to see us arrive. You don’t want everyone to know who you are, do you Princess? If people see us arriving together they will connect the dots, after all, why would the Emperors assistant be escorting a girl around the rumoured age of the Princess?”
Luz gave a muttered. “That makes sense…” Before the demoness continued.
“Come on Princess, we need to go and see the headmaster before you can go to class. You still need to choose your tracks before you can begin. As for you Amity, you should go to class. You are late as it is; it wouldn’t do for a Blight to be tardy now would it?”
Amity muttered a quick goodbye to Luz and rushed to class, leaving the duo of Princess and assistant to make their way to the headmasters’ office on their own.
______________
They arrived at the headmasters’ office and Kikimora knocks on the door. They hear a “Come in” and open the door to find an old man sitting behind a big desk, busy with paper work and not even looking at them. Upon entering, the door closed behind them and the headmaster beckoned for them to sit.
They sat in silence and after a while he finished reading the document in front of him and looks up to greet them. His eyes momentarily widened upon seeing Kikimora, but he quickly regained his poseur and smiled at the small demoness.
“Ah, Miss Kikimora, what brings you to my lovely office today?” He asked with a hint of nervousness in his voice, concerned about her presence in his office. He then noticed the witchling sitting next to her with a posture that could only be seen in the highest of society and couldn’t help but wonder who this girl was to warrant the Emperors’ assistant accompanying her.
He almost immediately connected the dots and he gasped in an almost comical way, mouth hanging open and eyes wide as can be. Luz let out a small giggle at the way he reacted and he immediately stood up to bow.
“T-to what do I owe the honour of this visit your highness…?” She could see him visibly shaking. It was a normal response after all, who wouldn’t respond like that when faced with royalty sitting in their office? To make matters worse, nobody knew what the Princess looked like, and the fact that she was sitting in his office without a disguise told him that something was amiss.
Kikimora explained the situation to him while he sat there with a thoughtful look on his face. After she was done speaking the now introduced principal Bump responded with a smile.
“Normally, I do not allow students to join us in the middle of a semester; but, I’ll be willing to make an exception for her this time.” He looked at Luz with a slight smile on his face and asked her what tracks she wanted to join.
“I-if it’s alright with you I would like to be in the same Abomination class as Amity…”
Bump lifted his eyebrow at that statement and asked in an enquiring tone. “Excuse me Princess, but you do know she is in the advanced class right?”
Kikimora cut in with an irritated tone. “Are you implying that the Princess could not handle the advanced classes…?”
Bump immediately paled at the implication of that statement and hastily corrected his words. “Please, take no offence. What I meant to say was that we are already more than halfway through the semester and that a lot of work has been covered by now. I merely meant to ask if you would be alright with having all that extra work to catch up on.”
Luz smiled at Bump and said. “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.”
“Alright then Princess. You don’t have to choose more than one track, most people only choose one track after all; but I feel like I should ask you anyway, are there any other tracks you would like to take?”
“I want to try the advanced Potions track class as well if that is alright with you.”
Bump smiled and nodded accompanied by an “Of course Princess.” and made a spell circle, changing Luz’s school uniform into the colours of her chosen tracks. He looked at Kikimora and asked her if there were any other matters that she wanted to talk to him about.
Kikimora nodded and said that she wishes to discuss these matters with him in private. Bump nodded and used the intercom system to call for Amity to come to his office.
After waiting for a while they heard a knock on the door to which Bump told her to come in. Amity opened the door looking nervous about being called in, but visibly relaxed after seeing Luz sitting there in the office. She stood up straight and said.
“Sir? You wanted to see me?”
Bump asked Amity to give Luz a tour around the school while he and Kikimora discussed a few maters in private. Amity immediately replied with an exited “Yes!” before she blushed and corrected herself in an embarrassed manner with a calm, “What I meant to say was. I would be happy to provide her with a tour of the school.”
Luz came up to the mint haired girl and linked their arms together with an excited expression on her face and began dragging her out of the office, causing Amity to blush profusely.
Just before they left, Luz turned around and said goodbye to Kikimora and Bump, to which Bump gave a small smile and a wave at the girls’ enthusiasm about school and Kikimora responded by saying, “Goodbye my child, have fun.”
______________
The tour took the better part of the day, not because there was so much to show, but because Luz kept getting distracted by everything she saw and dragged Amity with her by her hand; which in turn made the witch stutter and blush almost the whole time, much to the confusion of all the students that was witness to the spectacle.
This was after all Amity Blight they were seeing. Some people even did a double take upon seeing her holding the hand of a random girl in the hallway. Seeing Amity allowing this and even blushing confused them to no end. Amity Blight NEVER held anybody’s hand, much less BLUSH. As this random girl dragged the Blight around by her hands from place to place, the Blight following with a clearly smitten look on her face made them wonder, who was this girl?
Luz ‘oohed’ and ‘aahed’ for even the most mundane of school things, which at the same time amused Amity and made her feel like the most important person in all of the Isles. She couldn’t help feeling that way when Luz was hanging off of her lips for every piece of information Amity could provide her with.
It was like a dream come true for the mint haired girl. She was walking around hand in hand with the woman of her dreams, showing her all that there was to see of her world.
It was like heaven on earth for her.
That’s why, when a three eyed girl blocked their path with a smirk on her face, Amity almost let out a groan of frustration and a mutter of “Boscha.”
“Look what we have here…”
Amity immediately tried to ignore and move around the three eyed girl. The girl simply stepped into her path again and continued.
“I’m not done speaking with you yet Blight. I want to know, who is this girl?” Boscha asked with her smirk still in place.
Luz, oblivious to what was happening greeted the girl. “Hi, my name’s Luz, I’m new here. It’s nice to meet you!”
Boscha scoffed at the girl and looked her up and down. “Ugh… She looks like a complete waste of space. A nobody.”
Luz looked sad at that comment, which angered Amity immensely. Amity opened her mouth, ready to defend Luz, but Boscha merely continued.
“Why would you lower yourself and speak to such a nobody Blight? I thought you were better than that.” Boscha was about to continue but Amity just pushed her out of the way and dragged a crestfallen Luz with her, leaving behind the triclops who sneered at Luz and said, “Yeah, you better run you good for nothing piece of shit.”
Amity dragged the now quiet girl with her to an empty classroom before shutting the door behind them and locking it. She immediately looked at Luz, wanting to comfort her, but when she saw the single tear running down her cheek, she was overcome with anger and turned to go find Bosha and beat her into a bloody pulp.
A soft hand taking hers stopped her and she immediately forgot her anger and turned around to face Luz with panic in her face and started to apologise to her. Luz stopped her before she could even finish her first sentence and said in a cheerful tone that Amity could clearly hear was fake, “There’s nothing to apologise for Amity… It’s not your fault. I’m not even sad, see!” as she wiped the tears off of her own face.
Amity opened her mouth to argue with her, because clearly she was not fine, but the brown haired girl cut her off again.
“Amity. Listen. Forget about it, ok? I’ll be fine.”
Amity wanted to argue but one look at Luz’s face told her that it was a bad idea. She sighed and said.
“Okay Princess… Let’s continue the tour then. There’s still one place I want to show you.” She then turned around and began walking out of the classroom, completely missing the look of hurt and sadness on Luz’s face, showing that she is clearly not fine.
After a few minutes they arrive at what looks to Luz like a big stadium, filled with students exercising and running around. She even saw a few students with a ball, passing it around to each other and dodging spells and traps on the field. Luz turned to Amity and asked her what they were doing.
Amity happily explained to her what Grudgeby was, and Luz was instantly a fan of the sport. “Wow… That sounds awesome. Do you also play, Amity?”
Amity sighed. “I used to, but not anymore. Let’s just say that it isn’t for me…”
Just then the bell screamed, signalling the end of the day. Amity sighted in relief, happy to have an excuse to change the subject. Amity took Luz’s hand and steered them to the entrance of the school. There Luz summoned her staff, got on and gestured for Amity to get on behind her.
Amity was hesitant to get on but Luz insisted. Finally she gave in and cautiously climbed on behind the girl. Amity held onto the staff itself for balance but Luz told her that she should hold onto her. Amity tried to argue but Luz said that they would not go anywhere until the mint haired girl complied.
Amity gave a slight sigh but did as Luz demanded. She gingerly put her hands around Luz’s middle, careful to not put too much pressure on her back because of her injuries.
“Oh come on Amity, I won’t bite you. Hold on tightly.”
Amity did as she was told and felt like she would die upon feeling the softness of the girls’ stomach. She gripped her tighter when they suddenly took to the sky, much to Luz’s amusement and Amity’s dismay.
The wind was loud in Amity’s ears the whole ride back to the castle. So loud in fact that she almost didn’t hear it when Luz softly whispered.
“Thank you for being here for me Amity… You don’t know how much you mean to me…”
Amity smiled softly into Luz’s back and tightened her grip slightly on the girl, eager to have her as close as possible to her. Amity couldn’t help but wish that this ride would never end, that she could stay here, hugging Luz forever.
