Chapter 1: Big Alley Cat
Notes:
Edit: - Nov 26, 2024
Okay, so after some deliberation and voting in my server, I have decided to change the pronouns of two of the cassettes! I know that all of them in Cannon are known as he/him, but when you write a scene with eight he/hims in a conversation, it gets overwhelming really quickly!
So we decided to switch both Ravage and Laserbeak to She/her, and I will be updating the first chapter accordingly! Also, big sister Ravage is the best! I hope no one is too terribly upset by this change of cannon, but I hope that we can move around it.
Hope you enjoy the work <3
(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)
Chapter Text
Danny flew over Amity Park doing his regular patrol. The night was quiet, almost too quiet. It set Danny’s nerves on edge. Typically, there would have been an attack of some kind at this point: Box ghost throwing some crates around, or a ghost snake trying to swallow up a stray cat, things like that. But tonight, there was nothing.
He floated above the rooftops, surveying the familiar grid of streets and buildings he knew by heart. Usually, Sam and Tucker would be with him. But Sam was stuck at a formal dinner with her parents that she had been dreading for weeks, and Tucker had opted to stay home to play with his brand-new PDA model that had just been released. So, Danny patrolled alone. Not that he minded — it felt nice sometimes to float around his haunt, make sure everything was in order, that everyone was safe.
He was passing over the closed corner store when a distant sound caught his attention. A growl and a scuffle of some kind followed a large metal clang. Danny sighed. He knew the peace wouldn’t last. Danny’s senses heightened as he honed in on the noise. Without hesitation, he shot down the street in the direction of the scuffle.
When Danny arrived, he instantly spotted Cujo, a giant green ghost dog, playfully bounding around a massive, robotic, panther-looking creature nearly the size of a horse. The cat was covered head to tail in dark gray metal plating and had bright red eyes. The cat also seemed injured, favouring the left side and pointing it away from its attacker.
Danny glanced over and noticed a lamppost nearby that looked massively dented and crumpled in the middle, like something or someone had been thrown into it. Likely Whiskers over here. This would also explain the loud noise Danny heard earlier.
The cat hissed with a deep, angry snarl and made a swipe with giant claws toward Cujo, trying to fend him off. The cat didn’t seem to be enjoying the playful tussle Cujo thought this was. Cujo bounced back, wagging his tail, and barked at the slightly smaller animal, who bared sharp metal teeth in irritation. It was time to step in.
“Cujo!” Danny called out, trying to get his attention. The ghost dog’s ears twitched, and he paused for a split second, looking up at the floating ghost teen. His face split into a smile (as much as a dog could smile), panting with his tongue sticking out, staring at Danny excitedly. It was all the opening the metal cat needed. Suddenly, it ran past the dog and spun around to face him, firing a single missile previously attached to its hip.
The missile headed for Cujo, but the dog lazily slapped it out of the air with his giant paw, causing it to explode into the concrete. Cujo just let the debris of the explosion phase through him and barked happily. The cat hissed, clearly upset, as Cujo seemed more excited that the cat was “playing” with him. Danny could tell the cat was getting more and more unhappy every moment that passed.
Danny noticed a pinkish substance trickling down from one of the metal legs, where some of the shrapnel from where the missile had grazed it. And now Danny could also clearly the dented side, where part of the metal had been busted open, and the same liquid was flowing out there as well.
With the fight escalating so much, Danny took it a step further. He flew over as fast as he could and appeared right in front of the cat, floating between the two of them and facing Cujo. Cujo barked happily and pounced forward with his bum in the air in the universal play-with-me motion, tail wagging so fast it almost knocked him off balance.
“Cujo, the cat doesn’t want to play with you. See? They're hurt.” Danny gestured vaguely back towards the cat behind him. He swore he heard an indignant huff from that direction but decided to ignore it. Cujo glanced between Danny and his new “friend” but didn’t seem to understand. He barked again, just wanting to play with someone.
Danny sighed, running a hand down his face. “Okay, you want to play? Here, look.” Danny formed a large ice ball between his hands, his eyes flashing blue as he concentrated. The second Danny held the ball up for the dog to inspect, the dog barked excitedly and started bouncing around. Danny wound back his arm and threw it as far as he could. If he was lucky, it would take him far out of town. “Fetch!”
The ghost dog sped after the ice ball, leaving behind his new cat friend without a second thought. Danny sighed in relief, watching for a moment more as the ghost dog disappeared, hopefully to be distracted for the next thirty minutes while Danny dealt with the big cat.
“Sorry about that, he’s—” Danny turned around, smiling, only to see that the cat was gone. How could something that large and made of metal escape Danny without a sound? Danny glanced around the area. They were hurt, and probably needed help.
Danny spotted a splash of the pink substance on the asphalt, standing out with its glowing hue against the dark road. It reminded Danny almost of ectoplasm, if ectoplasm was, well, pink and a lot more – watery? There was a trail of small drips leading down the road, and Danny decided to follow it.
The trail led him to a small alleyway not too far from where the fight had taken place. Danny squinted his eyes as he looked down the dark alley. Faintly, he could see the outline of the cat trying to hide as far back as it could. The cat's red eyes locked onto Danny, unmoving.
Danny walked cautiously toward the narrow space between the buildings. “Hey, are you okay?” He called, keeping his voice low and steady. The closer he got, the more of the cat he could see. “I know Cujo likes to play rough. Trust me — I’ve been put through the wringer several times.”
A low growl emanated from the cat’s frame; Danny paused mid-step, already halfway into the alley. He could see the cat much more easily now, and he certainly didn’t forget about the other missile. Not that it could hurt Danny. Either way, Danny held his hands up in surrender, slowly stepping back.
“It’s alright,” he said. “I’m not going to hurt you.” Danny saw the cat’s ears press tighter against his head.
Danny’s gaze drifted to the wound, the pink liquid still dripping from the cat’s leg, pooling on the ground. “You’re hurt.” He took a tentative step forward, and the cat hissed again, louder this time, its metal claws extending with a sharp metallic scrape.
“Look, I’m just trying to help,” Danny said firmly, his voice laced with determination. He moved closer, his reflexes kicking in a second too late as the cat’s claws lashed out, catching his arm. The fabric of his suit tore, and a thin line of ectoplasm started to drip from his arm before he phased enough for the claws to pass the rest of the way through.
Danny grabbed onto his arm, pulling his hand back to see the small bit of ectoplasm pooling on his glove. He took a deep breath, ignoring the sting. “Nice try, but I’m not going anywhere,” he declared. Though he still stepped back slightly, this time out of swiping reach, giving the defensive cat some space.
Danny looked over the injuries from where he was standing. “I may have some bandages I can use for that front paw to try and stop the —bleeding?— but I’m not sure how well it’ll work, especially if that stuff is toxic or acidic.” He thought out loud.
Danny tilted his head, trying to get a better view of the injury on the cat’s flank, only for the mech to narrow its eyes in response and turn away enough to obscure Danny’s view of the injury. Danny sighed, exasperated. “I might need something else for that, though. Would you use a welder? Piece of scrap metal? Could that even heal like a normal wound?” Danny continued his thoughts out loud, hoping that the sound of his calm talking and questions could help calm down the cat enough for Danny to get closer.
“Can you just let me see it?” Danny tried, and the cat again hissed in response. Danny sighed. “Fine, I guess we will be here all night then.” He promptly sat down on the cold alley ground and crossed his legs, making himself as small and insignificant as possible. “I can wait.”
-
Ravage stood hidden in the shadows of the narrow alley, the sharp, coppery scent of energon seeping from the gashes in her leg and hip. her metal body tensed, every sensor alert after the skirmish with the glowing green canine. She had encountered countless enemies on Earth, but nothing quite like that creature — an incorporeal beast whose enthusiasm bordered on madness. Not even Ravage’s missiles scared it off, as it merely swatted them away.
The only thing that made it leave Ravage alone was the human’s unexpected intervention. Then again, the young organic seemed to share many of the same attributes as the creature that had attacked her. An otherworldly glow emanated from him, and he had luminescent green eyes, not to mention that the human had flown. Ravage had never known a human to fly before. A quick scan of the boy before him revealed a very similar energy signature to the dog, as well as some very strange vitals: no heartbeat and a significantly below-average core temperature. Interesting indeed.
Ravage had already sent a ping for backup, knowing she wouldn’t be able to make it far on her injured leg, and with one missile depleted, escape was no longer a straightforward option. Even if she could easily kill this human and escape, she wouldn’t have made it very far. It was better for her to wait it out so she could control the situation until help arrived.
“Come on, can I please just see your leg? I promise I won't hurt you.” The human tried again, using the same tone as before, trying to act calm and collected. The human’s audacity was matched only by his persistence. Ravage flashed her sharp fangs at the human again in an attempt to threaten him, but again, it didn’t work.
Minutes passed, eleven by Ravage’s count, as the boy rambled on, attempting to “calm her down” as though she were some wild Earth animal. But the amount of energon Ravage was losing was starting to get concerning, almost to the point where she was tempted to let the human try and patch her up.
Then, the merciful metallic thud of approaching footsteps echoed off the alley's brick walls, and Ravage’s ears perked up at the sound. The human stood up quickly, turning his back to Ravage, which made the mini-con’s EM field flare in outrage. The human didn’t seem to care about the possible threat Ravage posed at all. It almost made Ravage want to pounce on him and rip out his spine with her teeth just for the notion of not thinking she could be dangerous.
The footsteps approached their location, and Ravage’s optics narrowed toward the mouth of the alley, leaning to the side to see around the foolish human. Then, from around the corner, entered Rumble and Frenzy. Ravage’s optics flickered in annoyance, already anticipating the taunts and mockery for her request for backup. Both newly arrived mechs smiled at the sight before them.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Rumble said, stepping into the narrow alley and giving a theatrical sweep of his arm. His purple plating contrasted against the shadows much more than Ravage’s dark stealth plating. “Little pussy cat got hurt. Not so high and mighty now, are we?”
Ravage stood tall, baring her teeth towards her two imbecilic roommates/brothers (who were only bonded to her because they shared the same tapedeck). The human seemed a little nervous, but strangely not for himself. He glanced back towards Ravage with a strange look the quadruped couldn’t quite identify.
“Who are you guys supposed to be?” The human asked, crossing his arms over his chest and trying to step in front of Ravage as if to hide her from their mockery.
The twin’s optics landed on the human, glowing faintly in the dim light. Frenzy crossed his arms over his chest, and Rumble looked the human up and down. “Didn’t know Earth had fireflies this big.” Rumble laughed.
Frenzy walked over to the human, his grin sharp. His field was filled with mischief. He leaned down, looming over him. Even though Frenzy was a mini-con, he was still at least two to three feet taller than the human. “Bet you think you’re real brave, don’t ya?”
The human raised an eyebrow, unfazed by their towering presence. “I try my best,” he responded easily.
Rumble’s optics lit up, and he barked out a short laugh. “Awe, cute; he thinks he’s all tough.” He jabbed a finger in the human's chest, causing him to stumble back slightly. He then turned his attention back to Ravage. “What’s the matter, Ravage? Couldn’t handle one human on your own? Need us to play babysitter?”
Frenzy cackled, clapping his servos in mock celebration. “The great hunter, brought low by a meat sack!” He turned his attention back to the human. “You know, I bet you’d snap real easy. Like a twig. All the fleshies are just so delicate.” He smiled with his threat, and Ravage rolled her optics. They were always so ridiculous when it came to messing with humans. Ravage didn’t get the need they had to try and frighten them.
The human moved his hands to his hips. “I’m not as fleshy as you think.”
Frenzy smirked, nudging his twin's arm. “Snarky little guy we got there. What do you say, Rumble? Quick game of ‘squash the bug’?” He leaned closer, face inches from the human’s, optics narrowing. “Bet it’d be fun.”
The human’s expression didn’t waver. “You guys rehearse this act? Or is this just improv? ‘Cause I’ve heard scarier things from my parents.”
Rumble’s jaw clenched, and Frenzy grinned wider. “Oh, how’s this for scary, glow-boy.” He grabbed the front of the human’s shirt, lifted him off the ground, and transformed his servo into a giant drill, holding it threateningly in front of the human’s face.
Ravage bristled, planting a paw on the ground to push herself forward. The pain shot through her body, but she ignored it. “Enough,” she snapped. “Just leave the human alone. We’re here for extraction, not for your games.”
Rumble’s smirk widened. “Aw, come on, pussycat. Let us have a little fun,” he teased, crossing his arms and tapping his foot with exaggerated impatience.
The human turned, looking at Ravage with a startled expression. “You can talk?” He asked, a surprised hint to his tone, unbothered by Frenzy's threat to his life.
Rumble and Frenzy started laughing, so much so that Frenzy ended up dropping the human. Rumble spoke up. “Oh - look at that, Ravage,” He wheezed. “You’ve impressed the little human. Bet he thought you were just a big pet.” He gripped the brick wall to support himself through his laughter.
Frenzy snickered. “More like an overgrown alley cat that needs rescuing,” he quipped, earning a flash of Ravage’s sharp fangs as she growled again, ears pinned against her helm. The twins were taking every chance they got to jab at Ravage because they knew they wouldn’t get any more chances without the mech pouncing on them with a deadly threat. As soon as Ravage was back in full fighting condition, those two were in for the run of their lives.
The human looked back to Ravage with a grimace on his face. “Sorry, I didn’t realize. I would have tried to be more respectful if I had known.”
“Doesn’t matter,” Ravage snapped. “We need to get back.” She addressed the twins.
Rumble and Frenzy exchanged amused glances before Frenzy leaned down, again getting in the human's face, almost nose-to-nose, some scare tactic he liked to use. “What about the kid?” he asked with a smirk, trying to be as threatening as possible. The human did not react to the close contact, merely glaring at the red and black mech.
Rumble chimed in, his tone gleeful and mocking. “We should take him with us. Could use a little entertainment back on the ship.”
Ravage’s optics narrowed further, irritation blooming in her EM field. She could already feel a helm ache coming on. “No,” she snapped, struggling to inject convincing authority into her weakened voice. “We’re not taking him.”
Frenzy rolled his optics and threw his hands up, turning away from the human. “Oh, don’t be so boring, Ravage. The big M won’t even notice one little pet.”
The kid rolled his eyes. “I’m not a pet, and certainly not your pet.” He pointed back and forth between Rumble and Frenzy. “But right now, you guys need to help your friend; she seems to be losing a lot of blood — or whatever that stuff is.”
“Sister, actually,” Rumble corrected. The human’s eyebrows shot up for a second before he quickly tried to school his features back into neutrality, trying not to offend anyone.
“Unfortunately,” Ravage muttered, limping past the human and toward the mouth of the alleyway.
The human’s eyes suddenly widened as if realizing something for the first time. Before they could move any further, he stepped in front of them, hands outstretched. “Wait, wait, wait!”
Frenzy’s optics flashed, his fingers twitching with impatience. “What now? We decided to let you live, and now that we are trying to leave you alone, you want us to stay? We like you so far, but you need to get out of our way before I move you myself.”
Ravage shot a look at the human, silently questioning his motives.
The human, unfazed by Frenzy’s threat, met their stares head-on. “You don’t want to risk running into someone on the street. I can get you out of town undetected,” he said with determination.
Rumble let out a bark of laughter. “We can deal with any squishes we come across.”
The human’s jaw tightened, the urgency in his eyes deepening. “You can’t just hurt people because they’re in your way.”
Frenzy bristled. “Oh yeah? Watch me.” He attempted to shove past the human, who, in response, ran further ahead to block his path again.
This time, Frenzy paused, clearly unhappy. There was a beat of tense silence as the human held his ground, unwavering. Then, he exhaled and spoke calmly. “Look, I’m trying to keep you from causing more trouble. I can lead you out of here, and no one gets hurt. You guys are both injured and unfamiliar with the layout of the town," he gestured to Ravage for 'injured' and the twins for 'unfamiliar.' — you’re going to be vulnerable whether you like it or not.”
Ravage growled low, considering the human’s words. They were running out of time, and her systems were lagging. “Fine, just get us out of here.”
The human’s glowing eyes flitted between the twins and Ravage, a hint of relief in his posture as he started to move. “Follow me. No detours, no casualties.”
–
Danny floated above the alleyway and glanced around the area of town they were in. Luckily, it seemed everyone was still inside their homes. The coast was clear. He landed back on the ground and signalled to the three robots behind him that it was safe to come out. He knew that if he didn’t lead these guys out of here, there was a chance that not only could they get lost, but someone could be very hurt if they ran into them.
Danny knew he could take care of himself with these guys. If Cujo could damage Ravage, who was not, in fact, just a hurt metal cat, Danny knew he could phase away if needed. Even though the threats the red and purple twin robots —Rumble and Frenzy— made to his life were disturbing, it was nothing he hadn’t heard before, whether it be from his parents or other ghosts he got into fights with.
Danny glanced over at them: Ravage, limping but moving steadily, and Rumble and Frenzy, who both looked a bit too excited to be poking fun at their so-called sister's injuries. Luckily, they seemed to agree that Danny knew the way.
“Okay,” Danny whispered, glancing nervously over his shoulder. “Stick close to me and try not to make any noise. We need to get out of here without waking the whole town.”
Rumble’s optics glinted with amusement as he leaned over to Frenzy. “Hear that? The tiny human thinks he’s in charge,” he snickered.
Danny gritted his teeth. “Do you want to get caught?” He hissed. “My town, my rules. You guys were the ones that trespassed in my territory.”
They slunk through the alleyways, Danny’s core pulsing in his chest as he led the way. Just get them out of town. They would be fine. Everyone would be fine. He could almost hear Tucker and Sam’s exasperated voices in his head: Ghosts, sure. But murder robots? Seriously, Danny?
Rumble spoke up again, apparently not one to enjoy silence. “Ya got a name, Glowstick?” Danny looked around another corner and signalled for them to follow when the coast was clear.
Danny debated briefly what to tell them and glanced down at his gloved hands. “Phantom.” He answered.
Frenzy laughed. “What kind of a name is Phantom?”
“What kind of a name is Frenzy,” Danny shot back.
Frenzy scowled in response, but his brother laughed, and Danny could feel amusement almost emanating from Ravage. Danny smirked to himself.
The sudden sound of footsteps caught his attention, and Danny’s head snapped toward the main road. A flashlight beam swept across the darkened buildings as a police officer approached. “Shit,” Danny cursed under his breath, holding his arm out to stop them from going any further.
With only two officers in the town, Danny was honestly surprised one of them was even out patrolling. Rumble leaned over Danny’s shoulder to see. The sound of his metal joints creaking ominously behind him. “Wouldn’t it be easier just to take him out?”
Danny’s core lurched. “No!” He whispered urgently, turning to glare at the large purple and blue robot. “No one’s hurting anybody, got it? We’re getting out of here quietly.” He then spun on his heel and tried to push the mech back into the alley. The first shove didn’t work, so he put more energy into the second and pushed him back far enough that they were now hidden.
Rumble and Frenzy both looked at him with slight surprise, probably at his ability to push Rumble back. Danny hoped that Rumble didn’t snap out of it and take enough offence to make another threat.
Danny held his finger to his lips with the (hopefully) universal shooshing motion. He sucked in a breath, trying to steady the anxiety roiling in his chest. The officer’s flashlight swept closer. Danny held his breath (not that he needed to breathe. It was more a habit than anything) and waited. The light passed by quickly, and the man's steps faded. Danny sighed in relief.
“Okay, Move,” Danny whispered, and this time they followed without complaint.
They pressed on. Luckily, it was a small town, and they were already near the outskirts. The faint glow of the streetlights thinned. Danny led them through one last shortcut — a narrow alley that spat them out by an abandoned road marking the town’s boundary.
He paused, glancing back at the trio. “There. You’re clear of the town now. Whatever you do next, just… don’t come back here, okay?” Danny ran a hand down his face. “I don’t want any trouble, and I've got a lot on my plate without having to worry about murderous robots trying to harass the people in my haunt.” He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the wall. “Now go get Ravage some help. You know your way home from here, right? Please tell me you do. I don’t have anywhere else you can go.”
One of the twins was about to speak up but Ravage butt in. “We know the way. We’ll be fine.”
“Good. keep out of trouble.” Danny responded.
The twins laughed. “Like we ever do,” Frenzy commented.
“Break you next time, Glowstick,” Rumble called out cheerfully.
Danny sighed. “Looking forward to it,” he muttered under his breath.
Ravage, for her part, locked eyes with Danny for a moment. The red glow of her optics softened, and she limped off, Rumble and Frenzy following with whispered jabs and laughter.
Danny watched them go until they disappeared into the darkness, the tension in his chest finally easing. He let out a long breath, leaning back against the brick wall, the reality of what had just happened sinking in. What did he just get himself into?
-
Soundwave sat in the quiet hum of his private quarters aboard the Nemesis, reviewing some datapads he had splayed on his desk. Ratbat nestled in a corner, laying in the tiny nest he had been making with little pieces of fabric scraps he scavenged from his trips to the Earth’s surface, wings folded up tightly as he slept. Buzzsaw sat sleeping atop one of the many perches that Soundwave had installed in his quarters for his three fliers, though Ratbat seemed to prefer his corner.
Laserbeak sat on his desk, preening her metal feathers with precision. Their movements' subtle clicks and whirrs were the only sounds, a peaceful rhythm that Soundwave found oddly grounding.
The moment shattered with the abrupt clatter of metal footsteps outside. The door slid open to reveal Rumble and Frenzy escorting a limping Ravage, a trail of energon smeared across her front leg and flank.
Soundwave’s visor flickered at the sight of Ravage’s injury, concern blooming in his field as he rose smoothly to his pedes. The emotion emanating from him through the bond was enough to wake both Buzzsaw and Ratbat from their slumber.
Kneeling beside Ravage, Soundwave scanned the quadruped’s injuries, taking note of the abrasions and internal damage. “Status: compromised,” he stated. “Query: What happened?”
Ravage allowed Soundwave to begin patching up the worst of the injuries. “A strange encounter. There was... a creature. Not metallic, not of Cybertronian origin. A glowing, powerful, green canine.” her tail flicked in agitation, ears flattening at the memory. “It attacked without provocation, swift and chaotic. It was unlike anything I have ever seen. Any attacks I used would pass through it as if it didn’t have a form.” Ravage explained. “I will upload the scans to your database.”
“Guess the rule of dogs attacking cats applies to cybercats as well,” Rumble mocked. Ravage growled in response. Soundwave shot a look back at the mini-con that instantly shut him up.
“Ravage: victor?” Soundwave asked. Ravage shrunk down on herself slightly.
“Negative. The canine was scared off by other means.” Ravage explained.
Frenzy snickered, elbowing Rumble. “Yeah, but wait ‘til you hear about the human!” Frenzy burst out laughing, his metallic voice echoing around the room. “The big, bad Ravage taken care of by some tiny fleshy!”
Ravage’s optics flared with a sharp glare. “Silence.” But before she could snap further, Soundwave’s smooth and unyielding voice cut through.
“Clarify: human encounter,” he commanded.
Always eager to share a story, Rumble leaned forward, his optics gleaming. “Get this, boss. A human kid shows up and tries to patch Ravage up! Can you believe it? Comes waltzing in like he’s got a death wish or something, and then has the nerve to tell Ravage to ‘sit still.’”
“Like he’s talking to an Earth cat!” Frenzy added.
Soundwave’s visor flickered, processing this information. “Intent: hostile?” he asked, tone precise.
Ravage scoffed, tail lashing behind her. “Hostile? Hardly. He lacked the capability to harm us in any meaningful way. This one, though, was... persistent. Annoyingly so.”
Buzzsaw tilted his helm. “Why would a human help? Normally, organics attempt to run when they come across us.” He asked.
Ravage glanced up at her smaller sibling. “That’s what makes this one strange. He didn’t flee. Even after being threatened, he stayed.”
The twins cackled, Rumble mimicking their earlier interaction. “Yeah, we even joked about offlining him right there! Told him he was about to be scrap, and the kid just rolled his eyes.”
“Oh yeah,” Frenzy continued. “When we first showed up, he even tried to protect little old injured Ravage!” He laughed. “Standing between us, like he could do a thing to stop us.” Soundwave tilted his helm thoughtfully. In the back of his processor, he was also concerned as to what the twins were doing if the human thought them a danger to Ravage, but that was a topic for another day.
Ratbat’s optics glimmered with interest, wings shifting as he poked his head out of his makeshift nest. “So, the human... protected you?”
Ravage’s lip curled as if the notion itself was offensive. “He tried. He even guided us out of the town, ensuring more humans didn’t see us."
Soundwave's visor dimmed slightly as he contemplated his next course of action. “Assessment: No further need for interaction,” Soundwave said. "Soundwave: Will do research. Cassettes: must stay away until threat is determined."
The mini-cons sighed in annoyance, but it was necessary. Soundwave wanted more information before more cassettes got involved.

Beta read by Arvensia
Thank you so much for reading! I am so excited about this story; there is more to come! It probably won't get updates as frequently as Haunting the Nemesis does! But they will be coming out. Please tell me what you think of it. Your comments mean the world to me and help keep me going! Have a lovely rest of your week <3
Chapter 2: Stalkers
Summary:
The cassettes are curious about this strange human.
Notes:
Hey guys, just a heads up, make sure to reread the last two paragraphs of the last chapter! I rewrote them because my plot changed slightly. The major difference is that Soundwave told the mini-cons to stay away instead of sending Laserbeak to spy on Danny.
Also: after some deliberation and voting in my server, I have decided to change the pronouns of two of the cassettes! I know that all of them in canon are known as he/him, but when you write a scene with eight he/hims in a conversation, it gets overwhelming really quickly!
So we decided to switch both Ravage and Laserbeak to She/her, and I will be updating the first chapter accordingly! Also, big sister Ravage is the best! I hope no one is too terribly upset by this change of cannon, but I hope that we can move around it.
Also, some amazing fan art has been posted by ‘thegatorsgoose,’ and OMG, THEY ARE ALL SO GOOD!! Thank you. This art has helped my motivation for this series so much, and I absolutely adore it! Like, you have given me so much inspiration! (Cujo and Ravage, Cassette Danny, Ratpack, Parent Teacher Conference.)

Chapter Text
Laserbeak sat on her perch as she analyzed the strange organic who had helped Ravage the other night: Phantom. He was sitting on the ledge of a building, looking at a small device in his hands, completely enthralled by it, not noticing the mini-con merely thirty feet away.
Laserbeak’s optics scanned over him, noting the strange energy readings he was giving off. They didn’t match any known parameters for organic life that they have seen thus far on this planet. It was almost as if the human was radiating energy. Laserbeak tilted her helm to the side. Human bodies conduct electricity, not release it. This was no normal organic at all.
Ravage had been pouting for the last couple of days after having been helped by an organic. Rumble and Frenzy wouldn’t stop teasing her about it. Frenzy mysteriously ended up in the medbay with a few new claw-shaped gashes in his shoulder plating yesterday. Laserbeak had no idea why. Her field flickered with amusement.
Laserbeak adjusted her position slightly, her claws scraping against the metal pole. Phantom had spotted a female organic walking down the street. He purposely slipped off the building and glided down to her. Laserbeak’s optics widened. It was like gravity didn’t even apply to him. Even Laserbeak needed her thrusters to stay in the air.
The two organics started up a conversation, the female not even batting an optic at the fact that the human next to her could fly. They must know each other then. Laserbeak tilted her helm to the side keying in on the conversation, recording it for later use. It ended up being about some sort of outing. The girl was upset about something, and Phantom simply seemed amused. It was nothing of use in finding out what the organics' strange motives were for saving Ravage the other night.
Something interesting showed up on one of Laserbeak's scans. She tilted her helm, looking closer. Phantom floated up hovering over the female’s shoulder with a smirk before flipping upside down with some sort of tease toward her. But with that smile, she sensed a change in EM field.. from the organic. Humans didn’t have EM fields like Cybertronains do. This was very strange… and definitely worth looking into.
She debated getting closer to take a more thorough scan before her comms pinged, pulling her from her thoughts. //Whatcha doing?// Buzzsaw’s familiar voice chirped through the connection.
Laserbeak resisted the urge to click irritably. She wasn’t in the mood for distractions, but ignoring him would only invite more pestering. //Reconnaissance// she replied simply, keeping her optics trained on the target below.
//You went to look for that squishy, didn’t you?// Buzzsaw teased.
//No.// She snapped, her plating bristling at being caught in a lie.
//You totally are! I thought Soundwave said to leave that place alone.//
Laserbeak clicked her beak in annoyance but didn’t dignify that with a response. Instead, she refocused on Phantom, who was now gesturing animatedly with his hands, the black-haired female rolling her optics but still smiling.
Buzzsaw continued, oblivious to Laserbeak's annoyance. //So, what’s the verdict? Is the squishy a threat? I kind of want to see what all the fuss is about.//
Laserbeak hesitated, her optics narrowing. //Undetermined. Phantom exhibits abilities that do not align with standard human biology. Soundwave’s concerns are valid.//
//Yet you are still going out on your own.// Buzzsaw asked.
Laserbeak rolled her optics. //I can take care of myself.//
//Yeah, yeah, whatever you say.// He paused. //Just don’t get yourself caught, alright? Ravage will never let you live it down.// He sent a light brush of concern through their bond with the message.
//I won’t.// She was slightly offended by the suggestion.
//See you back on the Nemesis. Don’t miss me too much.// He then cut off the com.
Laserbeak huffed quietly, shaking her helm. She pushed the conversation aside and re-centred her focus on Phantom. If there was one thing she hated, it was wasted time.
Below, the human female turned to leave, tossing a comment over her shoulder that made Phantom laugh. He watched her go before sighing, his shoulders relaxing as he hovered in place. Laserbeak zoomed in, again the strange fluctuation of energy.
Interesting.
Phantom straightened and glanced over his shoulder suddenly, his gaze sweeping the street. Laserbeak froze, her body going completely still as she clung to her perch. She doubted he’d seen her—she had been trained far too well for that—
After another second of searching, Phantom disappeared. She cycled her optics and rescanned the area. But he was just… gone. Her plating puffed up in alarm. She didn’t take her optics off of him. How did he just disappear into thin air? She couldn’t have lost him! This must have been another strange ability he possessed.
Phantom was certainly no ordinary squishy.
–
Laserbeak followed him for four more days, trying to analyze him and figure him out. Each time, he seemed to be getting better and better at figuring out where she was. As soon as she started watching him, he would start looking around, and then he would disappear. She would scan, and there would be nothing.
Here she sat again on a lamp post, optics narrowed. He wasn’t on his normal route. She had discovered that he patrols the town very particularly every night. She had learned his routine and relied on it now. So where was he?
“ —Why are you stalking me?” A voice appeared behind her. She jumped and spun around on the lamppost, already aiming her weapons. Phantom flew backwards, holding his hands up in surrender. “Hey, hey, didn’t mean to scare you."
She didn’t say anything. Her plating puffed up in alarm. How did he spot her? More importantly, how did he sneak up on her!? She was way better than this. Soundwave would be disappointed in her.
“Like I said, why are you stalking me?” He crossed his arms. She clicked her beak in irritation. Hoping that he would assume that she couldn’t speak. Most humans did. “Look, I don’t want any trouble, okay.” He flew backwards. “Are you with those other guys that came through here the other day?”
Laserbeak gave him nothing. Simply staring at him. “Ah, okay, well… uh. Can you talk?” He asked. Laserbeak tilted her helm to the side. “Sorry, is that not something I should ask? The other cat robot could, and I didn’t originally think that she could. Is it rude to assume?” The human brought his palm to his forehead.
“Let's start over.” The human almost stuck his hand out as if to try and shake Laserbeak's wing. She stared at it and then looked back at him. Her entire frame still tense. Phantom pulled his hand back and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Well, My name’s Phantom.” Laserbeak nodded. She knew that already.
“Well, I would appreciate it if you would please… stop stalking me. It's really creepy. And I always get this weird sensation all over that someone is scanning me. I don’t like it.” He rubbed his arms. So he could feel Laserbeak's scans, that must have been how he disappeared every time Laserbeak tried to watch him. Makes sense.
She was then filled with a sense of uncertainty –not fear– Phantom was so close and still an unknown. If he could fight off a thing that injured Ravage that badly, what could he do to her? The only one of her siblings that knows she is doing this is Buzzsaw. And she didn’t tell him where she was. He wouldn't even know to look for her. She leaned back slightly, subconsciously puffing up her plating more to make herself seem bigger. Maybe she should have thought this through a bit more.
“Hey, I promise I’m not going to hurt you.” Phantom backed up further. Her optics widened. Did he hear her thoughts? As if he noticed her concern. “I can feel the anxiety flowing all over you.” he gestured vaguely with his hand in her direction. “I promise I won't hurt you or whatever you are nervous about. I just wanted to know why you are stalking me.”
He could sense her field? She immediately tried to cut it off. Hoping that her siblings didn’t notice through the bond. “Woah…” The human said. “I guess you didn’t know I could sense that, huh.” She narrowed her optics.
The human floated back more. “Well, I’m going to continue my patrol. Uh. Please don’t stalk me anymore. I promise I don’t want anything to do with your friends, and I don’t really plan on telling everyone about it. Your secrets are safe with me… Just make sure you stay out of sight on your way out. Or I guess you have been pretty good at it thus far. Either way. I’m just going to go this way.” He pointed with two thumbs in the direction of where he normally starts his patrol. “Fly home safe, I guess, feathers. I hope that you understand all this. And it wasn’t just me rambling to myself the whole time.”
He backed away and then disappeared into thin air again. She paused to try to figure out if he was still there before she took to the sky. She never wanted to be caught off guard again, that was for sure.
–
It had been about a week since the incident. Ravage found herself pacing back and forth in Soundwave's shared berth room with her and her siblings. Her injuries had mostly healed, and her systems had recalibrated. Ravage found herself obsessing over the strange human who tried to help her. She wanted to know more, and she wanted to know why .
The thoughts nagged at her. The human had ignored threats and pushed his way into their business with an ease that bordered on arrogance. He even tried to defend her from her moronic brothers. What did he gain from helping her?
Ravage was not accustomed to unanswered questions, especially those involving fragile, organic creatures like him. Humans were weak, impulsive, and had a short lifespan compared to their own. She shouldn’t even care. Yet this one... this Phantom had piqued her interest.
She needed to get to the bottom of this before she fried her processor. So the next night, she snuck out of the Nemesis through one of her favourite secret hatches and headed back to ‘Amity Park.’
-
Ravage silently crept through the town, making sure to keep an audial open for any dangers that might appear. Already weary of this town from her last visit, she kept to the shadows, winding in and out of the alleyways silently as she looked for Phantom.
She had searched for nearly an hour at this point, and still no sign. She glanced up, noticing a fire escape that led to the roof of one of the buildings. She narrowed her optics. She might have a better chance of spotting him from higher ground. He did fly, after all.
She lept vertically into the air the hydraulics in her legs were silent as she easily cleared the first level of the escape and landed on the second. From there, she prowled up the stairs with only the slight creak of the metal under her pedes.
Once on the roof, she remained crouched low, her red optics scanning the street below. She stalked the edge of the building around all sides, searching for her prey. Then she spotted him. She hunkered down next to a brick chimney that she could use as cover and observed.
There he was, floating lazily between the buildings, scanning his surroundings with an easygoing confidence. Her tail flicked behind her, betraying her irritation. It would be easy to approach him now, to pin him down and demand answers. But no—Ravage preferred observation.
She ran a thorough scan over him, hoping to gather more information than she had before. Suddenly, he stopped mid-air. She froze mid-scan, pulling back. He slowly began to move again, this time floating to the ground. He crossed his arms before looking right up at her hiding place.
“I know you’re there,” he called out.
Ravage hesitated. How had he sensed her? She’d masked her energy signature and kept her movements silent. There should have been no way for him to know that she was there. Her tail flicked again. “What did I say about stalking me? I thought we talked about this before.” Ravage tilted her helm. Maybe this was her chance to ask her questions.
She raised to her pedes and walked over to the edge of the building. The human’s eyes widened as she padded along the lip of the building with skillful precision, then crouched and silently dropped four stories to the ground. Phantom held his ground as she approached, her helm held high.
“Oh, hey, it's you again?” He said. A nervous smile etched his way across his face. “Sorry, I thought you were someone else.” He rubbed the back of his neck.
Curiosity got the better of her. “Who did you think I was?”
The human shrugged. “There was this big red and black metal bird that kept following me for the last week. I confronted them the other day, though.”
Ravage's field pulsed protectively, and she snarled, stepping further into the human's space, baring her teeth. “Laserbeak. What did you do to her?” She had certainly been off when she came back from whatever mission she was on the other day. Was she hiding an injury perhaps? If this human hurt one of her siblings. She glanced towards his throat.
The human held his hands up in surrender. His smile disappeared instantly as he tried to step further away from Ravage. “I promise I didn’t do anything! She just kept following me around everywhere, and it was really creepy. I just appeared behind her and asked her to stop. Maybe I gave her a fright. But I needed to talk to her before she flew away.”
Ravage looked over the human with her optics. Scanning him for any sense of a lie. Laserbeak would be upset if she was spotted on a mission. She held herself in almost as high a regard as Ravage did. “Your explanation seems plausible. But if I find you are lying. I'll be back here to personally remove your spine.” She flashed her fangs again.
The human laughed awkwardly. “I get it; I’m protective over my family, too.” Ravage started to circle him slowly, her movements fluid and deliberate. He seemed to be more uneasy with the response. “How are your injuries, by the way?”
“Healed.” She said.
“That's great, uh…” Danny turned to keep her in his line of sight. “Well, If you’re just here to threaten me, you’ve done that, I guess.” He paused, then added, “Unless you’re here to say thank you, in which case, you’re welcome.”
Ravage stopped, her tail flicking sharply. “Why?” She asked, her voice low.
Danny blinked, caught off guard. “Why what?”
“Why did you help me?” She clarified, her optics boring into him. “You had nothing to gain. We posed a threat to you, yet you tried to help anyway. Why?”
For a moment, Danny just stared at her, then shrugged. “I don’t know. You were hurt. I couldn’t just leave you there.” He acted as if it was the simplest thing in the world.
Ravage growled softly, more out of frustration than anger. “Illogical. Most humans would have fled or attacked when they had the chance.”
Danny sighed, running a hand down his face. “Yeah, well, most 'humans' haven’t dealt with half the stuff I have.” He frowned, his tone softening. “Look, I’ve been where you were—cornered, injured, not knowing what's coming next. I couldn’t just...do nothing.”
She didn’t fully understand his reasoning— Yet there was no deceit in his tone, no ulterior motive she could detect. “Strange,” she murmured, more to herself than to him.
Danny raised an eyebrow. “Yeah, well, you’re not exactly normal either, so I guess we’re even.” Ravage huffed, circling him one last time before heading back towards the shadows. She glanced over at him again, her piercing red optics glowing brightly. “You know the way out?” He asked.
“I remember,” she said simply. “I should not encounter any humans. Don’t concern yourself.” She easily disappeared into the shadows.
“I’m also going to take that as a thank you, by the way!” He called out after her.
Her tail flicked again. Phantom really was a strange human.

Notes:
Sorry, this chapter took so long to come out! I had written it weeks ago, but I really didn’t like how much it was rushed and how much it divulged from my original plan, so I ended up scrapping it and re-writing it entirely! I am so much more happy with it and I hope that the wait for a good chapter was worth it rather than rushing a bad chapter and getting stuck. I love you all. Thank you so much!
Chapter 3: Put It Down!

Chapter Text
It had been at least a week since Danny’s last incident with his robot stalkers, and Danny thought he was finally going to be left alone.
He was wrong.
Danny had just returned from patrol when he flopped onto his unmade bed with a flash of light, as he transformed from ghost to human. He didn’t even bother to get changed as he tried to drift into sleep. That was when a loud crash echoed from outside his bedroom window, probably an alley or so over.
He groaned, exhausted. He rolled over to look up at his ceiling, glancing at the little glow-in-the-dark stars he and Jazz had stuck to it, wondering if the sound was really worth getting out of bed for. He winced as another crash echoed through the night.
Danny sighed and forced himself to get off his bed, rubbing his eyes as he walked over to his window to get a closer look. Hopefully, it was just a cat or something that knocked over a garbage can and not…
Danny groaned loudly when he spotted two very familiar figures sticking their tin heads out of the alleyway across the street. Rumble and Frenzy, the purple and red chaos twins that threatened to murder him the other night…Great, there's that good ‘Ol Fenton luck for you.
He rubbed his temples with his hand as he transformed back into his ghost form, turning invisible and floating down towards them. Danny could probably hear their bickering for the next two blocks.
“Nice goin’, genius! Ya knocked it right over!” Rumble chastized, knocking his brother up the backside of the head with a resounding clang.
“Oh, like you weren’t stomping around loud enough to wake up the whole slaggin’ town!” Frenzy snapped back, shoving his brother back against the wall in retaliation.
Danny sighed. Someone was bound to notice the two chaos-bringers any minute, and Danny really didn’t feel like explaining why two alien robots were getting into a shouting match over a knocked-over garbage can in the middle of Amity Park.
He appeared behind them just as Rumble shoved Frenzy hard enough to send him staggering into a nearby trash pile, causing another loud crash of metal. “Scrap! Now look what ya did!” Frenzy snarled, untangling himself from a broken cardboard box that had somehow gotten stuck on his arm.
“Oh, like it was my fault—”
Danny crossed his arms over his chest before coughing once to get their attention. “What are you two doing back here?”
The twins jumped like startled cats, spinning around so fast that Frenzy nearly tripped over himself and fell back into the garbage pile. They then both immediately transformed their arms into their signature weapons — Rumble, with his piledrivers, and Frenzy, with spinning drill bits.
Danny raised an unimpressed eyebrow. “Really? We’re doing this again?”
Rumble and Frenzy hesitated for a second before slowly lowering their weapons. “Come on, Glowstick,” Rumble said, shaking his head. “Ya can’t just sneak up on people like that! Ya gonna give a mech a spark attack.”
Danny deadpanned. “Says the robots who’ve been stalking me.”
Frenzy scoffed, transforming his arms back into…well, arms, and crossing them over his chestplate. “We weren’t stalking you. That's—” He wiggled his fingers from where they were hooked under his other arm. “—Ravage and Laserbeak’s thing.”
“Yeah!” Rumble agreed. “We were looking for you! And look, our plan worked! We found you!”
Danny pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to suppress the headache forming. “What was that plan exactly? Make so much noise that I wake up and try and track you down?”
“Exactly!” Rumble exclaimed.
Danny opened his mouth to argue but stopped himself. Did he really want to get into an argument with these two? Probably not. He exhaled through his nose and dropped his arms. “Okay, whatever. Just… why are you here?”
Frenzy shrugged. “Ravage and Laserbeak were gettin’ all the fun sneakin’ around, figured it ain’t fair if we don’t get some action too.”
Danny blinked. “You—you seriously came all the way back here because you were bored ?”
“Pretty much,” Rumble said, grinning like this was the best idea they’d ever had.
Danny stared at them. “That is a terrible reason to crash into a town full of humans who will absolutely freak out if they see you.”
Frenzy shrugged. “Eh, they’d get over it.”
“You cannot just stay in this town and wreck stuff whenever you feel like it. This isn’t a playground!” Danny whisper yelled. "At least Ravage and Laserbeak were trying to be sneaky!"
Rumble and Frenzy exchanged a glance, clearly not taking him seriously. “C’mon, kid. We ain’t wreckin’ stuff,” Rumble said, nudging the overturned trash can with his foot. “Much.”
Danny wasn’t sure if he wanted to bang his head against a wall or just phase into the ground and pretend this conversation wasn’t happening. Instead, he took a slow breath and focused. He needed to get them out of here before they did something really stupid.
Crossing his arms again, Danny set his jaw. “Listen. I get that you guys are bored, but you really can’t stay here. If people start seeing you, it’s going to cause a lot of problems.”
Frenzy snickered. “Aww, ya worried about us, kid ?”
Danny rolled his eyes. “No, I’m worried about myself because I’ll probably have to clean up whatever mess you leave behind. Or have to stop you from hurting someone just ‘cause you’re feeling trigger-happy.”
Frenzy cackled, optics flickering with amusement. “Ain’t our fault if the squishies can’t handle it.” He nudged his brother with his elbow.
Danny scowled. “Still doesn't mean you can hurt people.”
Rumble huffed. “Sounds like a them problem.”
Danny pinched the bridge of his nose. “It’s also my problem if people freak out and start asking questions, or worse—if someone catches you on camera.”
Frenzy waved a dismissive hand. “So? Let ‘em see! What’s some grainy human footage gonna do? ‘Oh nooo, blurry security cam, we’re doomed.’”
Rumble leaned against a dumpster, grinning. “Oh, but Frenzy, we can’t let the weak lil’ squishies get scared. How would we live with ourselves?”
The twins burst out laughing. Danny sighed. “Okay, look. You guys are already here, so let’s make a deal—”
“We get a say in this?” Frenzy interrupted, looking amused.
“No,” Danny said flatly. “You’re gonna listen to me, and we’re gonna make sure you don’t destroy half the block before you leave.”
Rumble smirked. “Then what’s in it for us?”
Danny folded his arms. “Uh, not getting hunted down by every human military force that would love to shoot an alien robot?”
Frenzy rolled his optics. “Booooring. Try again.”
Danny groaned. “Fine. You two don’t get yourselves or me in trouble, and I won’t call in every ghost in the Ghost Zone to haunt you for the next month.”
The twins exchanged a glance. “Tch. Fine. ” Rumble shrugged like he wasn’t actually agreeing.
Danny sighed. “Okay, so, First rule—”
“Oh, now we got rules? ” Rumble interrupted with a grin.
“Yes,” Danny said firmly. “ First rule: Stop being loud. ”
Frenzy scoffed. “Pfft, easy. We’re the best at bein’ sneaky.”
Danny gave him a blank look, then looked pointedly over at the overturned trash can, scattered garbage, and the distinct cracks left in the brick where the twins had crashed into it with their roughhousing. "Yeah, real stealthy. Now, we need to get you out of town before someone sees you. This brings us to Rule Two: We are leaving. Now.”
Frenzy tilted his head. “Where to?”
Danny muttered, already floating ahead, “Anywhere but here before I lose my mind.”
"Hey, no fair!" Frenzy called as he and Rumble scrambled after him.
Danny stayed just ahead of them, guiding them toward the outskirts of town. He really thought—hoped—this would be easy. Just a straight path out of town, no distractions, no problems. He was an idiot for thinking that. Because, of course, the second they passed a convenience store, Frenzy skidded to a stop, his optics lighting up. "Hey, check it out!"
Danny turned just in time to see Frenzy yank on the locked door, the glass in the frame shaking as he pulled hard. When it didn’t open, he pulled again, only for the glass to shatter. Danny grimaced, and the door swung open with a broken lock. Frenzy started to take a step inside before Danny appeared behind the mech and yanked him backward by the scruff of his back plating. Frenzy stumbles back with a startled yelp.
"No. You can’t just— Ugh ." Danny groaned.
He rubbed his plating. "Aw, come on! I just wanted to—"
"No."
Frenzy grumbled but relented, and Danny let go. But just as he did, he caught sight of Rumble crouching near a car, tilting his head to look into the window. His fingers traced along the handle like he was considering something. Danny was on him in an instant. "Don’t even think about it."
Rumble huffed and stood up, brushing himself off. "Jeez, buzzkill."
Danny resisted the urge to groan and flew ahead of them again, keeping a sharp eye on both of them as they moved through town. They were almost at the edge of Amity when another sudden commotion made Danny’s stomach drop.
A loud yelp echoed through the night, followed by an indignant screech. Danny turned just in time to see Frenzy holding something in his servos, looking way too pleased with himself.
Danny’s eyes widened. “Frenzy! What. Did. You. Do?"
Frenzy smirked, a very unhappy stray cat squirmed in his grip. Its little teeth scraped against the metal, trying to bite at his plating but doing no damage. Fur bristled as it hissed at him.
"Ha! Its bites feel like Ratbat’s." He laughed, holding it out for his brother to take a look at. Rumble leaned in closer, sticking a finger out as if to poke it on the forehead. Or maybe in the eye, Danny didn’t know.
"Put it down!" Danny flew over in an instant, already shoving Rumble away.
"But—"
"Give.” Danny made grabby hands. “Gently.” Frenzy rolled his optics and shoved the indignant cat into Danny’s arms. Danny instantly kneeled down, letting the cat run free. The feline wasted no time bolting into the alley. Danny pinched the bridge of his nose again, turning back towards the twins.
"Okay. We are not stopping again. No distractions. No side quests. Just leaving. Got it?"
"Got it," the twins chorused.
Danny narrowed his eyes. "I don’t believe you, but we’re moving anyway." He had gotten them through last time; a second time shouldn’t have been this hard. Then again, last time, he had Ravage to keep them in line.
They were only a few blocks from the town’s edge when Danny heard the faint hum of an approaching scooter. Someone was coming. He glanced and saw Frenzy standing a few feet ahead of him in the middle of the street. Danny didn’t have time to think. He dove toward Frenzy, grabbing him firmly under the arms and lifting him off the ground. The Mini-Con flailed wildly as he kicked at the air, trying to get free.
“Hey! Put me down!” Frenzy demanded. Danny barely registered the complaint, too focused on getting him out of sight. As he carried Frenzy to the side, glancing around for somewhere to put him down.
He spotted Rumble a moment later, crouched in the shadows of an alleyway, optics darting between them and the human on the scooter. At least he had the sense to duck for cover. Danny altered his course and practically dropped Frenzy right on top of his twin.
Rumble grunted as Frenzy landed in a heap on top of him. “Gee, thanks,” he muttered, pushing his brother off him.
Danny ignored their glares, landing lightly in front of them and shushing them. The twins grumbled under their breath but stilled as the scooter rolled past. Danny let out a quiet sigh of relief. “You two are way too easy to spot,” he whispered, shaking his head.
Frenzy scoffed, crossing his arms. “Yeah? And you’re way too grabby.”
Rumble snorted. “Not a fan of bein’ picked up, bro?”
Frenzy shot him a glare. “Like you are?”
Danny smirked. “Now you know how that cat felt.”
Frenzy made an offended noise, but Danny turned away before he could fire back, motioning for them to keep moving. “Come on, before something else happens.” The twins muttered their usual complaints but followed without further argument.
Finally—Finally —they reached the outskirts of town. Danny exhaled in relief, turning to the twins. "Okay. You’re out of town. Now, go. And don’t come back unless you want me to throw you into another dimension."
Frenzy rolled his optics. "Yeah, yeah. We get it. We aren’t allowed to have fun around you."
Rumble gave a mock salute. "We’ll be back later."
Danny groaned. He didn’t have the energy to argue anymore. The two robots disappeared into the night. Danny had a feeling this wouldn’t be the last time he had to deal with them. And somehow, that thought exhausted him more than anything else.
He just wanted one quiet night. Was that really too much to ask?
Somewhere in the distance, a loud explosion shook the ground. Danny closed his eyes and let his head fall back with a groan.
Of course, it was too much to ask.
-
Laserbeak ruffled her plating, settling comfortably on one of the perches mounted to the walls of Soundwave’s quarters. Below, Ravage was curled up on the floor, tail flicking as she sharpened her claws on a sandpaper scratching pad, while Ratbat and Buzzsaw occupied themselves with their own little projects.
Ratbat was curled up in his little nest of fabrics, nuzzling down in it before sitting up, moving a single piece of fabric to the other side and settling down again before repeating the process over and over, never satisfied. Buzzsaw, meanwhile, was carefully shaping pieces of scrap metal he found into a sculpture, completely absorbed in his work.
For now, the room was peaceful. Soundwave was out on shift, meaning they had free reign to do whatever they pleased until he returned.
The quiet was shattered with the sound of loud cackling from the hallway. Laserbeak barely had time to glance toward the door before it slid open. Rumble and Frenzy stumbled in, laughing like they’d just pulled off the greatest prank in Cybertronian history. Not a good sign.
“Oh, mech, did you see his face?” Frenzy cackled, wiping at his optic as if he had tears to clear. “Kid looked like he was gonna pop a circuit!”
Rumble grinned, jabbing a thumb at himself. “What can I say? We got a real talent for makin’ Glowstick freak out.” Laserbeak tilted her helm, optics narrowing. Phantom?
Ravage’s helm snapped up, optics flashing in irritation. “You went back to the human town.” It wasn’t a question.
Rumble and Frenzy exchanged glances before Rumble shrugged. “Yeah?”
“You disobeyed orders,” Ravage said simply.
Frenzy scoffed, waving a servo dismissively. “Pfft. Orders, smorders. We were just havin’ some fun.” Ravage gave them a long, unimpressed stare. Frenzy huffed. “Oh, don’t act like you and Laserbeak didn’t do the same thing.”
Ravage’s optics narrowed. “We were gathering information. You went there to harass him for fun.”
Rumble crossed his arms. “Whatever. Point is, the kid’s funny when he’s pissed. And he’s weird. ”
Buzzsaw finally glanced up from his sculpture. “Define weird. ”
Frenzy flopped down on the floor next to Buzzsaw, crossing his legs. Buzzsaw hissed as the red twin got too close to his masterpiece. Frenzy didn’t care though, and continued. “Ain’t scared of us, even when we pull weapons on him.”
Rumble nodded. “And he moves fast. Like, really fast. Slag, I swear he disappeared a couple of times when we were tryin’ to keep up.”
Ratbat hummed. “Disappeared?”
Frenzy waved his hands vaguely. “Y’know, one second he was in front of us, and the next he was, like, across the street or behind us. Like he can teleport or somethin’.”
“Made it hard to steal stuff.” Rumble huffed, sticking his lower lip out in a pout. Laserbeak clicked her beak thoughtfully.
Buzzsaw absently twisted another wire into place. “That’s illogical. Humans can’t teleport.”
Frenzy scoffed. “Yeah, well, tell that to Phantom.”
Suddenly, they all jolted when the door slid open with a soft hiss. Instantly, the room fell into complete silence.
Soundwave stepped inside, posture relaxed. He immediately noticed the tension though, and pulled down the datapad he was looking over to scan over his mini-cons. Laserbeak kept still, but the others weren’t as subtle.
Rumble and Frenzy sat up straighter, suddenly looking way too innocent. Ravage slowly stretched with a yawn, showing off her large fangs as she curled up in her berth. Buzzsaw focused way too hard on his sculpture. Even Ratbat shrunk into his nest, using a wing to pull a piece of fabric over his helm in an effort to hide.
Soundwave’s gaze lingered on them for a few seconds longer than necessary. Then, without a word, he turned and walked further into the room. From the corner of Laserbeak’s optic, she saw Rumble and Frenzy exchanging uneasy glances.
Sounndwave’s gaze went back to the twins. “Query: what did you do?”
“Nothin’ Boss, we swear!” Rumble was the first to speak up.
“Ya Rumble’s right!” Frenzy quickly followed, nodding incessantly.
Laserbeak could sense Soundwave’s optics narrow under his visor. But it seemed he was too exhausted to deal with it because he simply sighed and sat on the edge of his berth. “Cassettes: Dock.” He said simply, opening his chestplate.
Everyone sat up and transformed into their cassette forms. Buzzsaw muttered to himself, disappointed he couldn’t finish his sculpture, but followed suit. With everyone docked, Soundwave lay back and slowly drifted into recharge.

Chapter Text
Danny was just out on his nightly patrol when he started hearing a commotion, almost like the sounds of a struggle, and inhuman screeches echoing through the night. He turned his head in the direction of the sound and took off.
It didn’t take him long to spot the source. The three giant ghost seagulls that had been terrorizing the town for the past few days were back, and this time, they weren’t just stealing hot dogs or dive-bombing unsuspecting pedestrians. No, they were harassing something— someone —in the air.
Danny narrowed his eyes. He could feel the panic from the creature being attacked as it frantically tried to escape the seagulls swooping in from all sides. He got closer, ready to step in and see what was going on, and when he finally got close enough, he could see that the seagulls were attacking a small, pink and yellow, metallic-looking bat.
Well, small compared to the other robots he’d been dealing with lately. His wingspan was around three or four feet, and his body was closer to the size of a loaf of bread.
The ghost seagulls used their beaks to pull at his wings, their claws scraping against the metal plating. The bot flailed, trying to break free, but one of the birds had wrapped its talons around his torso, trying to carry him away.
The bat fought back, his head turning around at almost a whole 180-degree angle, and he started gnawing at the bird’s foot with tiny fangs. The bird barely reacted. This was getting out of hand.
Danny raised an arm and shot an ectoblast at one of the seagulls—not enough to actually hurt it, just enough to spook it. The bird squawked and veered off, wings flapping wildly as it retreated.
The other two, however, were not deterred. The bat tried to escape again, wings flapping erratically, but the seagull still gripping him refused to let go. Danny wasn’t about to stand by and watch. He shot forward, barreling into the seagull holding the bat with his shoulder. The ghostly bird let out an indignant screech, caught completely off guard, and released its captive.
The bat let out a surprised yelp as he dropped like a rock, flailing in the air, trying desperately to stabilize himself. One of his wings wasn’t working properly. He wobbled, dipping dangerously, before colliding headfirst into the roof of a nearby building with a solid thud.
Danny winced. That looked like it hurt.
Above him, the seagull he’d rammed gave an irritated cry before deciding it wasn’t worth the effort and flying off. The last bird, however, wasn’t done. Danny turned just in time to see it tucking its wings, beak aimed downward like a missile, diving straight for the downed bat.
Danny’s eyes widened, and he instantly pulled out his thermos, twisted the cap off, and fired. A swirling vortex of energy shot out, catching the ghost mid-dive and sucking it inside before it could reach its prey.
The thermos snapped shut with a satisfying click. Danny sighed deeply, rolling his aching shoulder with a wince. Slamming into a ten-foot flying chicken wasn’t his brightest idea. He reattached the containment device to his belt before glancing down at the roof, where he saw the bat land (crash).
Danny’s eyes scanned the rooftop for the tiny bat-like bot but didn’t see him. Danny frowned. He would have noticed if the bat had fallen or jumped off the roof, no? His wing was injured and didn’t seem to be able to fly. Danny floated down closer to the rooftop for a better look.
He could see the point where the bat landed on the roof. There was a small crack in the concrete and a smear of the pink fluid, which he remembered to be the same as the one he saw leak from the other mecha animal he found in town, Ravage.
He saw a few more drips of the —blood? He wasn’t sure what to call it— as it led towards a dark corner of the roof. Danny approached it slowly. Then he saw it. There was a discarded piece of cardboard thrown in the corner, and that piece of cardboard was trembling. If Danny knew anything about cardboard, it didn’t tremble on its own.
Danny lowered himself to sit cross-legged in front of the hiding place, careful not to make any sudden movements. He extended a hand, palm up, in what he hoped was a reassuring gesture. He was careful not to sit too close so the little guy didn’t feel trapped.
From his new angle, Danny could see the bat's little nose peeking out. His optics were squeezed shut, and his small frame trembled harder. Danny’s core fluttered at the sight. He looked so small, so scared.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Danny murmured, keeping his voice soft. “Those big birds are gone now. I scared them off.”
Still, the little bot kept his optics shut, as if that alone could make Danny disappear or stop him from hurting him. “I can see you, y’know… but I promise, I won’t hurt you.”
At that, the bat finally peeked up at him, little yellow optics opening to stare up at Danny with fear and suspicion. This bot was so much smaller compared to the others he had met. He glanced at the substanc dripping onto the roof from his injury. “You hurt your wing,” Danny said gently. “Can I look at it?”
The bat’s ears flattened, and he shook his head.
Danny frowned. “Why not?” He wondered if this guy could talk like Ravage was able to. Maybe he could explain.
The bat didn’t do anything for a long moment, just staring up at Danny, but then… “They would be mad,” he spoke up. His voice was as tiny as his frame, and something about it made Danny’s protective instincts stir. He wanted nothing more than to bundle him up and keep him safe.
“Who would be mad?” Danny asked carefully, tilting his head to the side.
“The others…” The bot shrank further into his hiding spot. “I’m not supposed to be here.” The little bot hesitated, then admitted, “I just followed Buzzsaw. I was bored… I didn’t think...” A sad little squeak emanated from his frame.
Danny raised an eyebrow. “Buzzsaw?” He glanced around but saw no sign of anyone else. “Is Buzzsaw here?” He hadn’t heard that name yet.
“I don’t know… I lost him.” The bot’s voice was barely above a whisper. If he was separated from his friend, no wonder he was scared.
“What’s your name?” Danny asked.
The little bot hesitated, optics flickering as he studied Danny. Then, finally, he answered, “Ratbat.”
Danny smiled. “That’s a good name. My name’s Phantom.”
Ratbat’s optics widened in recognition. “You helped Ravage!” His head popped up, and the cardboard lifted above him almost like a little hat, wings pressing against his sides. The energy field around him shifted quickly from terror to excitement and curiosity.
Danny chuckled at the sight. “Yeah, I did.” So, they did know each other.
“And you saved me just like you saved Ravage,” the bat said, staring up at Danny.
Danny nodded. “And I want to help you more. Can I take a look at your wing? That can’t feel nice.” Then, Ratbat hesitated, looking at Danny with open uncertainty. He started to shrink back again, pulling his wing against his side. “I won’t hurt you. I want to make sure the damage isn’t too bad. Those beaks are sharp, and you took a big fall.”
Ratbat glanced over the roof and over Danny again, looking for some unseen danger lurking around, ready to snatch him up if he left his cardboard barrier. “Promise you won’t hurt me?” he said softly.
Danny lifted two fingers in a mock salute. “Scout’s honor.”
A few tense moments passed before Ratbat finally crept out of his hiding place and inched toward Danny.

So what if Buzzsaw was curious? He had a right to be curious!
The twins wouldn’t shut up about the strange human. Ravage and Laserbeak kept sneaking off to spy on him, not that they would ever admit it. But all the cassettes knew. Those two weren't as secretive as they thought they were. But if they found this human interesting enough to defy Soundwave’s orders, maybe it was Buzzsaw’s turn to check it out.
Slipping out of the base was easy. None of the others really paid attention to what he did when he wasn’t on duty. And the coordinates? Even easier. He had plucked them straight from Ravage’s mission log after she’d returned from that strange attack where she first met 'Phantom.’
His optics narrowed as he soared over the human town. It was tiny . Not much to look at. Flat, full of small, weak-looking structures. There were some bigger buildings in the center, but nothing that screamed ‘fascinating.’ He was starting to wonder what exactly was so special about this place when something shiny caught his optic.
His helm snapped down, and he spotted a junkyard. His talons twitched at the sight. Wanting to sour down there and start sorting through the pieces of scrap metal for his collection. But… He should explore first. He did come here for a reason, after all…
Buzzsaw flicked his optics back toward the rest of the town.
Then, back to the junkyard.
Surely a quick detour wouldn’t hurt.
Besides, who knew what kind of treasures were buried down there? All those beautiful things that humans throw away that were ripe for the picking and no one would ever notice were gone.
His decision was made.
Tucking his wings in, Buzzsaw dived, landing with a clatter of loose metal. He wasted no time—helm-first into the pile, shifting through parts with quick, practiced precision. Scrap metal, busted plating, discarded bits of tech—it was perfect.
Within minutes, he had started sorting his findings into neat little piles.
He was so absorbed in his task, he never noticed his little brother fluttering around in the sky, too slow to keep up with the bird mecha, and unable see where he went. He also didn’t notice the three bright green seagulls circling overhead not even a few moments later.
-
Buzzsaw sorted through the scrap, carefully examining each piece, lost in his work. The rhythmic sound of metal shifting and clinking against itself was almost meditative—until sharp panic tore through the sibling bond.
His helm shot up, optics wide. That was Ratbat. A surge of alarm flooded through the link before his comms exploded with voices.
//What happened?!// Rumble’s voice hit first, frantic.
//Anyone have optics on Ratbat?// Ravage demanded, her side of the bond flooding with tension and protectiveness..
//No, I haven’t seen him since we all docked last night.// Laserbeak said, concern filling her field. Buzzsaw’s plating clamped down, flicking through his own memory banks for anything he might have missed.
//His comm’s not responding.// Rumble muttered, frustration creeping in. //It’s either broken or jammed.//
//Is he on the Nemesis?// Ravage pressed. //Frenzy, you’re in the control room—check the cameras.//
There was a pause of tense silence throughout the bond as they waited. Then Frenzy snapped, //Buzzsaw, what do you mean you haven’t seen him? He left with you!//
Buzzsaw stiffened. //No, he didn’t. I went by myself!//
Silence crackled through the comms for a beat. //Buzzsaw,// Ravage’s voice was lower now, dangerous. //Where are you?// Buzzsaw hesitated. //Buzzsaw!// Ravage snapped, her field pressing against his like a warning growl.
His wings twitched. //I’m… at the town,// he finally admitted, lowering his helm. //With the human. I wanted to see what the fuss was about.//
Irritation surged through the bond. He could practically picture Ravage’s tail flicking back and forth. //Go. Find him. Now, before he gets hurt.// She ordered. //I’ll be there soon.//
//Road trip!// Rumble whooped.
//No.// Ravage cut him off before he could get too excited. //You two are on shift. Stay put.//
Both twins groaned in unison. //Ughhh, come on! It’s Ratbat!// Frenzy complained.
//Yeah, he’s our brother too, you know.// Rumble added.
Ravage growled through the com. //No arguing. We may need you as back up. Stay there.//
The twins reluctantly agreed but still seemed upset. Buzzsaw ignored them. He took off into the air, the spark thrumming hard.
Ratbat was in trouble. He needed to find him. Fast.
-
Buzzsaw soared high over the town, scanning for his little brother. Ratbat couldn’t have gotten too far. He searched and searched before he spotted it. On a rooftop below, a human crouched down, reaching for Ratbat. Now that the bird was closer, he could sense the tremor in Ratbat’s field—worry, fear… pain.
Buzzsaw hissed. His instincts took over, urging him to protect the youngest of their group. He tucked in his wings and dove straight down.
The human only had a split second to notice Buzzsaw, his eyes widening before the bird slammed into him, claws first. The human threw up an arm to shield himself. Buzzsaw landed on him, vents flaring, talons digging deep. He heard a sharp intake of breath and saw glowing green liquid—energon?—seeping from the gashes he'd left behind.
Good. Let him hurt.
The human twisted beneath him, struggling, and Buzzsaw aimed his beak at those wide, startled eyes. If this creature thought he could harm a mini-con and get away with it, he was sorely mistaken—
And then the human disappeared.
Buzzsaw's talons scraped against the rooftop as the human reappeared a few feet away, stumbling but still standing.
Buzzsaw fluffed up his plating, stepping back, putting himself between Ratbat and the attacker. His optics darted to his little brother, noting the way Ratbat trembled, optics wide, wings tucked close. The sight only stoked Buzzsaw’s fury. He hissed, crouching lower, ready to strike again.
“Whoa, whoa! I wasn’t trying to hurt him!” The human exclaimed, raising his hands in surrender. The green blood dripped from his arm and torso, staining his torn jumpsuit. Buzzsaw clicked his beak sharply. Like he would believe that. How else would Ratbat have gotten hurt? Why else would he be so afraid?
Buzzsaw's blaster began to whir as he powered it up.
“Buzzsaw, wait!” Ratbat fluttered out from behind him, struggling but determined. He held out a wing as if shielding the human. “Phantom was trying to help me!”
Buzzsaw shot Ratbat an annoyed glance, ready to argue, but then he really looked. Ratbat was favoring one side, his other wing twitching, sparking—damaged. Buzzsaw’s optics widened. If this human had taken away Ratbat’s ability to fly—
He hissed again and took a more aggressive stance.
“He was the one that helped Ravage!” Ratbat insisted, hopping forward.
Phantom let out a breathless laugh that quickly turned into a pained hiss as he clutched his arm. “Yeah… that was me. But it seems like helping you guys just keeps getting me hurt. I scared off the big birds that were trying to grab Ratbat. I didn’t hurt him. Promise.”
Buzzsaw narrowed his optics, scrutinizing him. He flicked his gaze to Ratbat, who, despite his trembling frame, wasn't afraid of Phantom.
“…Right,” Buzzsaw said stiffly, retracting his blaster with a reluctant whir.
Phantom relaxed a little but kept his hands up. "Okay. Now, can I help him?"
Buzzsaw’s optics flicked back to Ratbat’s damaged wing. It was losing energon, and if this was indeed the human that helped Ravage… Maybe he could help Ratbat, too. After a long pause, he stepped aside, wings still partially flared in warning.
"Fine," he said simply.
Phantom moved carefully, keeping his movements slow and deliberate. He muttered something under his breath about “oversized pigeons with trust issues” before shaking his head and refocusing on Ratbat.
"I’m going to try and wrap the wing," Phantom said, glancing at Buzzsaw. "Just so you know what I’m doing. I don’t want you trying to claw my face off again."
Buzzsaw narrowed his optics but didn’t interrupt. Phantom ran careful fingers over Ratbat’s wing, feeling for damage. Buzzsaw watched closely. Every little movement, every shift of Phantom’s hands—he wasn’t going to let the human try anything.
-
Ravage’s spark was pounding as she took off toward the town. It was her job to watch over the mini-cons. She was the oldest, the protector when Soundwave wasn’t there. Ratbat was the youngest, the smallest. He wasn’t built for combat. She had nearly gone offline fighting one of the creatures that lurked in this town. She had no idea what one of them could do to someone like Ratbat…
She pushed herself harder, her claws digging into the ground as she sprinted. She could sense her siblings’ sparks now. They were near each other. Good. That means Buzzsaw found him.
But she could also smell spilled energon.
The scent led her to a building. Her optics flicked upward. Her plating bristled. Ratbat was up there. Injured. She jumped. Claws raked long gashes into the building’s side as she scaled it with ease, ignoring the damage she left in her wake. She made it to the rooftop in seconds, landing in a crouch.
She saw a figure leaning over Ratbat, pinning one of his wings down with one hand, pain tainting the mini-con’s field. Ravage lunged.
Her snarl ripped through the night as she tackled the figure to the ground. She was larger, stronger—he barely had time to yelp before she had him on his back, pinning his shoulders under her paws. Her fangs wrapped around his throat, barely grazing the flesh beneath.
Glowing green eyes stared up at her, wide with shock.
She knew those eyes.
"What is with everyone pouncing on me today?" the human—Phantom— asked incredulously, hands raised at his sides. Ravage could feel his throat shift with the words.
"Ravage!" Ratbat squeaked. He tried to flutter forward and failed, promptly landing on his face before sitting up again. Ravage’s optics tracked his movement, but she didn’t loosen her grip on the human.
~Are you okay, Ratbat?~ She sent the thought through their sibling bond. She was close enough for it to work now. Ratbat was too small for long-distance bond connections, and his com link was still offline.
"I’m okay! Phantom was helping me! Like he did for you, remember?" Ratbat’s voice was chipper, but his field carried an undercurrent of pain.
~Buzzsaw?~ She snapped, wanting to confirm, still keeping Phantom in place.
Buzzsaw ruffled his wings. "Yeah, yeah. The kid was just patching him up. As the kid put it, Ratbat got attacked by some ghost birds or something."
Ravage glanced down at Phantom again.
"All true," he confirmed with a quick nod. "Though, can you get off my chest now? You guys are really heavy."
She narrowed her optics before slowly removing her paws from the human, stepping back with measured caution. Her tail lashed as she watched him sit up and rub his throat. That was when she noticed the claw marks running down his arm, a few more slashing across his torso.
Apparently, she hadn’t been the first to get her claws on him. "You guys really pack a punch," Phantom chuckled. He stood carefully, edging past Ravage without fear. Strange human.
"I was just trying to patch up that wing," Phantom said, motioning to Ratbat. "But it’s a bit hard since I don’t know your biology."
Ratbat hopped closer and tried to lift his injured wing. Ravage sat down, watching carefully. The human wasn’t perturbed by her presence—or by Buzzsaw’s earlier attack.
Speaking of Buzzsaw…
"Why didn’t you com me to tell me everything was alright sooner ?" She snapped, shooting a glare at the yellow bird.
Buzzsaw tilted his helm, looking… sheepish. "Sorry. I got distracted."
Ravage’s tail flicked in annoyance. Of course, he did.
Phantom finished securing Ratbat’s wing with some kind of wrap. "That should be good for now… at least to hold the pink stuff—"
" Energon, " Ravage corrected.
"Right. Hold the energon in until you can get him home. I assume, since you healed, he can too?"
"Affirmative," she said shortly.
She knelt down, letting Ratbat scramble onto her helm. His tiny claws gripped tightly as he wrapped his wings around her neck. Phantom smiled at the sight, and Ravage bared her fangs in response.
He didn’t flinch. "Okay, you guys get home safe," Phantom said. "And seriously, be careful next time. I may not always be here to fight off the ghosts for you."
"We’ll be fine," Ravage replied. "Buzzsaw, let’s go."
Without another word, she turned and headed for the fire escape. Buzzsaw followed after her, giving Phantom one last look before flying off. As she descended, her sensitive audials caught the human’s quiet sigh.
"Ow."
Ravage hesitated, just for a moment. Then she shook it off. Ratbat was her priority.
She didn’t have time to worry about annoying humans.
Notes:
There is not much content for Buzzsaw that I can get my hands on, so a lot of it is my little ideas of how I think he would act! I hope you enjoyed the new chapter. See you next time!
