Chapter 1: omg is this a chat fic chat???

Summary:

Noob says, “hey sixer, what if we made a cool lil group chat?!”

They were then shot 57 times.

Notes:

The whole chatting part was ripped from a different draft where it was part of the second chapter where a few things had been established during the first. But honestly you could read it without the bg knowledge.

This won’t be exclusively a chat fic, but I added in a chat to easily put info whenever I’m too lazy to properly write it down

It was hot. Deathly so. Which was pretty sucky, considering today was one of the only days Noob got to themselves. They wanted to go out, maybe to lunch, the park, or the movies. But they found it quite impossible to move from their lazy spot on the couch. And as they doomscrolled through their phone, they discovered that most of the things they wanted to go couldn’t be accomplished anymore.

It was already the late afternoon, closer to dinner rather than anything else. And, they were already staying home for dinner anyways. Noob and Guest 666 had been taken in by Guest 1337 and his family until the two of them could find their own home. And Noob promised to help out with dinner tonight, and they weren’t one to back out of their word.

It was so hot that even inside with the AC on blast everything felt stuffy, it was humid and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. While going to the park sounded nice, Noob was sure that if they did go they’d come back home looking like a melted popsicle.

And when they looked at movie tickets and times, they didn’t find anything that really interested them. So they laid on the couch, scrolling, all day. They wanted to be more productive, they really did, but everytime they thought of getting up their limbs suddenly seemed to weigh a hundred pounds.

They weren’t alone though, their good friend Sixer had sat with them, watching whatever boring channel was playing on the TV. He didn’t seem to mind, content to just be with his friend.

And, out of pure boredom and with nothing better to do, Noob came up a wonderful idea. “Hey,” They sat up a bit, calling out to Guest 666.

He tore his attention away from the television screen and went to look at Noob, signing, ‘What’s up?’

”I have an idea,” Noob said, beginning to type something on their phone rather frantically. Six watched as they did, her confusion and curiosity growing the longer Noob went without elaborating.

When Noob finally looked back up at them, Guest 666 signed, ‘And what would that be?’

”I should create a group chat with everyone.” By ‘everyone’ Noob was referring to the cast of people that had all been…well..forsaken. (HAH!) Sent to a realm and forced to participate in deadly games, over and over.

They had all escaped, working together to find an opening, a way out. And they were all back now, reintegrating with society, trying to pretend that nothing had happened.

Naturally, the group had bonded after all being forced in that mutual hell. They were the other ones who could understand each other, and the struggles that came with trying to become normal again after so long stuck in purgatory. Most of them lived nearby or together, hell, Noob and Sixer themselves living with Guest 1337.

They hung out with each other a lot, and every two weeks there was a dinner at Chance and Elliot’s house, a chance to catch up and share progress in healing. A group chat, in theory, was a great way to keep track of everyone and plan things easily. The only problem? It would get chaotic. Quickly.

It would go off-topic, and end up becoming a realm of torture in it of itself.

And, well, Guest 666 tried to warn Noob of that, he really did. But sometimes, when they had their mind set on an idea, it was hard to stop them from doing it.

’Are you sure?’ Guest signed, though Noob was already scrolling through their contact list and rounding everyone up.

”Of course I am,” Noob shrugged it off. “How bad could it be?”

“Hey, Noob,” Guest 1337 asked, walking into the room with a concerned face and his phone in hand. “I…have a few questions.”

Noob nervously swallowed before looking up at him, tearing their eyes away from their phone, which still buzzed with…well…cursed messages.

Chapter 2: Noli goes to the dmv FT. c00lkidd//“What if a fish could get pregnant”

Summary:

Noli goes to the DMV and noob is a literary genius

Notes:

Noli needs a new driver’s license bc he can’t js use his void rush to get around anymore (he’d get banned again 🥀🥀🥀)

Noli, 007n7, and 118o8 all lived together, taking care of Bluudud, Pr3ttypriincess, and c00lkidd. Noli and n7 had caught up and gotten on better terms after escaping the realm. They both decided to finally hang up their lives of crime in pursuit of redemption, a chance to live normally and without fear of getting banned.

They were lucky to get this second chance, as they now both knew the admins who were willing to offer it. Usually, such things wouldn’t happen. That doesn’t change what the two of them had done in the past, no amounts of apologies would. Yet the two knew that the next best thing was to move on and try and start over.

Noli sometimes held resentment. He loved his time in the past with n7 and wouldn’t change a thing about it. But in the vein, 007n7 was the reason he’d been corrupted by the void star. Was the reason why he would be forever stuck as a half-rotting corpse. And afterwards? n7 had left and became a father, acting as though that would change what he had done.

But Noli could understand why—he at least tried to. And he knew that eventually he and seven would talk about it, that they would have to. And either way, Noli was quite fond of c00lkidd.

118o8 and Bluudud had come to live with the two of them until they could afford their own living space. 8o8 didn’t want to settle at just an apartment, she wanted to own a house like she used to and offer Bluudud the best life she could, which meant it would take a while to save up. But that was okay.

Bluudud and 8o8 had somewhat of a hard time adjusting, as while their universe was similar to this one, so much had also changed. When escaping the realm, they only accounted for the universe the admins were from (at least the ones that had been forsaken) which meant Bluudud and 118o8 wouldn’t have a way to get back to their original homes.

Pr3ttypriincess also didn’t have a way back to her universe, and because her parent had died way before she even got to meet them, it didn’t really matter where she went. She followed the other two kids around often, not because she liked them but because she was familiar with them. Eventually, Noli and 007n7 allowed her to stay with them, sorta unofficially adopting her.

And while she’d have a hard time showing it or accepting it, Pr3tty was genuinely grateful for the second chance she got—and the people she got to have it with.

Readjusting to life and trying to become normal again was hard for Noli, especially now that he was partially responsible for three children. He had a degree in law (I thought it’d be funny if Noli went to school to become a lawyer, he would also love ace attorney) and when he finally got accepted at a firm, he remembered just how many things he actually needed to do just to get around.

One such thing was to get a driver’s license. He and n7 always used to use exploits to travel, as it was quicker, easier, and cheaper than owning a car even would be. But now they couldn’t. As it would get them banned, and entirely stray away from their goal of becoming normal again.

So Noli ended up taking taxis and busses to most places he needed to go. But that got very expensive very quickly. n7 and 8o8 had immediately gotten their licenses, and Noli was jealous he didn’t go with them. He needed to get a license now, and one of the things he needed to do was go to the DMV to get it.

Oh, the DMV. A boring hellscape that was probably way worse than anything Noli had endured while forsaken. Was that a dramatic comparison and mindset? Absolutely. But Noli would recoil at the thought of going, and would end up delaying it and delaying it and delaying it. He had started his new job a week ago though, and he realized that he couldn’t put this off any longer. The bus times could be unreliable, and he had much less control over his schedule when using taxi services.

Today he had a day off. And at the breakfast table he proudly announced, “I’M GOING TO THE DMV.”

”It’s about time,” 118o8 teased. “I was beginning to think you just wanted to walk to work for the rest of your life.”

”HAHA. NO. IT IS A SHAME I HAVE TO USE MY ONE DAY OFF FOR THIS, THOUGH.” Noli sighed.

”Well, you should’ve came with us when we went.” 118o8 said, gesturing to herself and n7. “It was definitely a hard trip.” The words meant something just a little bit heavier coming from her.

007n7 didn’t say anything, he just stared at the two of them and then the three children. They all looked bored and tired. They had school soon.

”Hey, dad, can I stay home from school today?” c00lkidd asked, looking up at his father with pleading (heh…) eyes.

”Why should you?” 007n7 asked, looking back at him.

”I…uhhh..” He stammered. “My throat hurts, and I have a headache..!” It was very obviously a lie, but n7 entertained him anyways.

”Oh that’s ridiculous!” Bluudud exclaimed. “You liar!”

”Yeah,” Pr3ttypriincess nodded. “You just don’t want to do that math quiz.”

”Whattt??” c00lkidd laughed nervously. “I didn’t know we had a math quiz…”

”You’re a really bad liar, you know?” She deadpanned, looking at him with an unimpressed looked.

”Well,” n7 sighed. “If your head and throat really do hurt, I suppose you can skip school today.” He said to the dismay of the other two children, who began to shout about how unfair it was.

”Really?” c00lkidd asked with beaming eyes.

”Of course, you’ll just have to stay with Noli.” n7 nodded. At that, the other two immediately shut up. c00lkidd had never been to the DMV before, didn’t even know what it was. But the other two had, they knew what it was and Bluudud had had to go a few times in his life. Neither of them were particularly jealous anymore.

Besides, Bluudud especially didn’t like that place anymore. He still had to shut his eyes and try and focus on something different whenever he went in a car, and he couldn’t handle crossing the street without holding someone’s hand and looking both ways multiple times, even as be was walking. He didn’t like cars.

The children quickly finished their breakfast and went to go get ready, leaving the adults alone to clean up.

Today, Noli had to wash the dishes. He didn’t really mind it actually. The water could feel pleasant, and it gave him time to think and reflect.

Back in the realm, he would spend a lot of time with c00lkidd. The kid liked him a lot and felt close to him because of Noli’s previous relationship with his father. But upon escaping, c00lkidd really only stuck with the other two children and his dad. It felt as though 8o8 and Noli knew him, but didn’t exactly know him. n7 did, the other kids did, but not 118o8 and Noli.

Noli didn’t expect to feel almost hurt about that. He had grown quite fond of the kiddo during their time forsaken. Originally, the two bonded over 007n7, with c00lkidd telling stories of he much he loved his dad and Noli epically retelling n7’s glory days. But eventually, c00lkidd felt safe enough to tell Noli when he sometimes didn’t want to play anymore, or when he felt bad after realizing what he had done.

In turn, Noli began to develop a sort of parental affection towards the child, and it hurt when the two drifted away after making it out. He was glad that he’d be able to spend time with c00lkidd today, even if they weren’t going anywhere all that fun or exciting.

After cleaning up, 118o8 left to take the kids to school and go to work, leaving c00lkidd and Noli alone.

”So,” c00lkidd asked, looking up at the former exploiter. “What are we going to do today?” He smiled.

”I HAVE TO GO TO THE DMV, AND YOU’RE GOING TO KEEP ME COMPANY,” Noli explained as he put on his shoes, getting ready to leave. c00lkidd followed suit, struggling with the laces but eventually pulling through.

”What do you do there?” c00lkidd asked.

”VERY FUN ADULT THINGS.” Noli said sarcastically. Nothing about being an adult was fun, and nothing about going to the DMV was fun either.

”Sounds c00l!” c00lkidd exclaimed. Noli nodded and lead him out the door, the two walking to the nearest bus stop. It was still early, so many were trying to get to work and school, and the stop was crowded. When they both actually got on the bus, it felt hot and stuffy.

The duo got a few weird looks, as they were both infamous not only for being hackers, but being a part of the group of people who had randomly gone missing three years ago only to return without any sort of explanation. Aside from that, the two just looked weird.

c00lkidd shuffled awkwardly at the stares. He already saw himself as a monster after the Spectre’s corruption. And the fact that most of the public saw him in that light anyways didn’t help with his negative view of himself. Noli felt bad. Him and n7 getting looks or stares because of what they did in the past was justified. They were both adults who knew and reveled in the chaos they were causing.

c00lkidd was a young child who didn’t know any better. That doesn’t mean that what he didn’t wasn’t bad—it definitely was. But Noli found it unfair that c00lkidd ended up becoming the face of it all. n7 was widely disliked, but c00lkidd seemed to get the blunt of it. Seemed to be remembered better.

Eventually, people started shuffling out of the bus, freeing up space and making it easier to breathe. Less people stared, and Noli managed to find seats.

c00lkidd wasn’t exactly used to taking to bus, usually his father and 118o8 drove him places. Standing up for that long had begun to make him feel a little carsick and made his legs sore.

Soon enough, the pair reached their stop, and when getting out of the bus and checking his phone for more directions, Noli was greeted with…wonderful notifications..

Noli sighed before closing the messaging app and opening the GPS, setting walking directions to the DMV.

c00lkidd watched as his face coiled while he looked at his phone. “What happened?” The naive child asked.

”PROMISE ME SOMETHING.” Noli said as they both began to walk.

”What…?” c00lkidd swallowed, feeling suddenly nervous.

”NEVER END UP LIKE TWO TIME, SHEDLETSKY, TAPH, CHANCE, OR NOOB WHEN YOU GROW UP.” He instructed.

”Uhhh….sure?” c00lkidd said shakily. He didn’t really understand why Noli suddenly asked that of him, but he didn’t mind agreeing. He didn’t really know those five very well anyways. He saw them at all the dinners, and had killed them multiple times, but hadn’t seen anything too wrong with them.

Noli eventually led the two to the DMV, and when they got inside the building was hot, the lines were long, and suddenly being in there, everything felt sluggish and boring.

Noli got in one of the seemingly never ending lines, c00lkidd trailing close behind him. The child took everything in, looking around confusedly, almost disappointedly, as if he were expecting something way more grand.

”This is the DMV…?” He asked, looking up at his caregiver.

”YUP.” Noli sighed, looking around disappointedly himself.

”Oh.”

Eventually, c00lkidd started getting bored. And when he was bored, he was annoying. He hummed and paced and kept bothering Noli with annoying questions. So, against his better judgment, Noli handed c00lkidd his phone. One thing he neglected to do, was turn off his notifications. So as c00lkidd was watching videos, the notifications kept bothering him. And as he went to check them, c00lkidd was sucked back into the chaos of the chat.

Upon realizing what the kid was looking at, Noli immediately took his phone back from c00lkidd. Shedletsky was right, Noli was indeed displeased with Noob and Two Time.

Noli sighed and put his phone away, it was going to die soon anyways. He looked over at c00lkidd, who looked about ready to rip his own hair off—if he had any at least.

”I’m boooored,” The child complained, slumping against Noli’s shoulder.

”YOU AND ME BOTH KID.” Noli sighed, luckily, he was third in line now. Hopefully, getting to the desk and getting all of the paperwork he needed wouldn’t take too long, but that was of course a wondrous thing known as, ‘wishful thinking’.

The two went awkwardly silent for a moment. They didn’t know what to talk about. Neither had really caught up with each other much, and had fallen out of touch. But it was now that Noli had realized just how far they had drifted. So he decided to ask something simple, “HOW HAS SCHOOL BEEN GOING FOR YOU, KIDD?”

”It’s fine I guess,” c00lkidd sighed defeatedly. “The teachers don’t really like me and the kids are mean. They think that I’m a monster, and I guess they aren’t wrong.”

Noli felt a pang of sympathy and anger at that. When he was younger, he didn’t have the best social life himself, and did get bullied sometimes. But nobody ever called him a monster—at least not when he was younger. But what hurt more was the fact that the kid believed he was a monster too. That being in that realm for so long twisted the way he thought of himself. Noli hated that, it wasn’t fair.

”LISTEN, THOSE KIDS ARE JUST BULLIES  WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT.” Noli said firmly. “YOU ARE NOT A MONSTER, AND DON’T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU OTHERWISE.”

c00lkidd nodded, and finally it was Noli’s turn to get what he needed done. Getting all the paperwork and everything processed took ages, but c00lkidd and Noli talked throughout it all. Noli told the kid about his aspirations in his new job, and c00lkidd excitedly talked about new games and movies he liked. Time went by even faster than expected.

By the time the duo was leaving for the bus stop, the sun was already beginning to set. But neither could’ve realized while they were still inside. As what took over six hours only felt like 60 minutes.

”It’s already night?!” c00lkidd exclaimed. “How long were we in there for??”

”A LONG TIME, THE DMV KINDA SUCKS.”

”I’m not getting a car when I grow up.”

”I DON’T BLAME YOU.”
